 Colonial means “under a colony”
 Happened from early times up to
1521, before the Philippines was
conquered by the Spaniards
WHAT IS LITERATURE?
 Any writings that express the feelings of
people to the society, to the government ,
to his surroundings, to his fellowmen, and
to his divine creator.
 Related to ideas or feelings of people
whether it is true, or false, or just a product
of one’s imagination.
POINT TO PONDER:
Our ancestors did not have any pen and
paper nor any gadget to be able to write
their thoughts.
 How did we manage to have our own
literature, then?

1. RIDDLE is a question, a puzzle, a
phrase, or a statement typically
presented as a game.

4. FOLKTALES are inspiring stories of
human travails and triumphs depicting
all kinds of emotion; to entertain and
to teach morals.

  • 12. WHAT IS LITERATURE?  Any writings that express the feelings of people to the society, to the government , to his surroundings, to his fellowmen, and to his divine creator.  Related to ideas or feelings of people whether it is true, or false, or just a product of one’s imagination.
  • 13. POINT TO PONDER: Our ancestors did not have any pen and paper nor any gadget to be able to write their thoughts.  How did we manage to have our own literature, then? ORAL LANGUAGE
  • 14. In some cases, our ancestors were able to make use of a writing system to pen down some works of literature. BAYBAYIN The writing system used by Filipinos during the Pre-Colonial Period.
