1. SITUATION:
a. Enemy Forces: None
b. Friendly Forces: Elements of the 142d CSSB continue to train in preparation for
deployment to the Iraq Theater of operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
c. Terrain, Weather and Light data:
Terrain and Weather:
The training area used throughout this operation is predominantly flat and low-
lying with occasional pockets of hilly terrain and marshy woodland. The entire area is subject to
flash-flooding in times of heavy rainfall. Potential showers and thunderstorms are forecasted in
the last week of March and could soften the ground resulting in significantly slower movement
times both mounted and dismounted on all unimproved surfaces.

No significant impact on the mission is expected due to lighting. Average
weather in early April is between 50F and 75F with 1-2 inches of rainfall. Heavy rainfall could
swell small creeks and slow squad movement significantly.
2. MISSION:
The 142d CSSB will conduct 2nd
Quarter “No Slack Stacks” squad competition on 4 April
2007 at Ft. Polk, LA in order to build unit cohesion, foster morale and prepare first line leaders
and Soldiers for the rigors of combat operations.
3. EXECUTION:
Commanders Intent: It is my intent to continue the 142d CSSB squad level certification program.
Training will be enhanced by competition and defined by warrior skills required in combat to
increase the survivability of logistical Soldiers on today’s battlefield.
KEY TASKS:
- Effectively plan, resource and execute training; incorporating specific Army Warrior
Tasks (AWT) throughout the operation
- Coordinate for maximum media coverage of the event
- Execute safe training IAW proper risk management
ENDSTATE: 2nd
Quarter “No Slack Stakes” will harden the Soldiers, Squads and Platoons of the
142d CSSB thru mentally challenging and physically demanding training designed to build
individual and unit confidence, instill the competitive spirit and develop our Soldiers to be
successful in combat.
a. Concept of the operation.
This operation will be conducted in 6 phases.
Phase I: Pre-execution/Planning
Phase II: LEG 1—Lensatic compass Lane and Land navigation Army Warrior Tasks
Phase III: LEG 2—PLGR Lane and First Aid Army Warrior Tasks
Phase IV: LEG 3—Orienteering Lane and Combat focused Army Warrior Tasks

Phase VI: Recovery
Phase I: Pre-execution/Planning phase began 29 JAN 07 and will continue until all squads have
registered with event NCOIC NLT 031700APR07. An event IPR will be held 12 MAR 07 at 1400
in the battalion conference room for the BN XO, BN CSM, SPO OIC, S1, S3, S4, S6, Unit CDR’s
and 1SG’s as well as each Warrior task station NCOIC (see para. 3. b for by name list). Event
OIC will brief the operation from start to finish with each Station NCOIC briefing actions at their
respective stations. All Warrior Task graders will be certified in their tasks by the event NCOIC
NLT 16 MAR 07. The event OIC will escort the BN CDR on a leader’s recon of the course NLT
23 MAR 07. A final event IPR will be held 26 MAR 07 at 1400 in the battalion conference room
for the BN CDR, BN XO, BN CSM, SPO OIC, S1, S3, S4, S6, Unit CDR’s, 1SG’s, Cookout OIC
and Warrior task station NCOIC’s. Following this brief and BN CDR’s approval of the final plan,
the event OIC will brief the entire BN on the concept of the operation in the Bayou Theater on 30
MAR 07 at 1330. There will be a logistics rehearsal in the battalion conference room on 2 APR
07 at 1400 to confirm synchronization of event support elements. A full rehearsal will be held on
3 APR 07 with each station set up and ready to receive squads beginning at 1400. Event OIC
and selected personnel will arrive at each station and be processed as a squad to validate the
course. Squad registration will begin at 1300 on 3 APR and complete at 1700 (see Appendix A:

Squad Registration Form). Each squad will be assigned a number upon registration. Squads will
be tracked across the course by registration number. Any changes to squad composition after
registration will result in a 100 point penalty to the squads overall event score (See Appendix B
for scoring information). Additionally, any squad failing to register by 1700 on 3 APR will also
receive a 100 point penalty.
Phase II: Begins at 0500 on 4 APR 07 when event support personnel arrive at 1st
CSB
Combatives pit to begin preparation for event set-up. Support personnel will move out NLT 0530
IOT set-up Warrior task stations. All Warrior Task Stations will be established and prepared to
receive squads NLT 0630. The event TOC will be established NLT 0600 when units form on the
field and begin stretching. At 0615, units will form around the event NCOIC to receive a course
orientation and safety brief. The course will begin at 0630. Squads will be grouped according to
registration number and will be instructed when to start the course (see Appendix C: Synch
Matrix). Event NCOIC will supervise squads to ensure initial movement times are adhered to as
closely as possible. Breakdown for movement will be as follows:
- 4 squads will begin by ruck marching to the EST IOT complete WT Station 3 tasks (see
Appendix D: Warrior Task List) before moving onto the Lensatic Compass Course (LCC).
- 6 Squads will begin movement on the LCC. Lane sheets will be issued prior to departure.
- 5 Squads will begin by taking the 10-question ECP test before moving onto the LCC.
Lensatic Compass Land Navigation Course (LCC):
On the LCC, squads will locate 3 points on the ground using a military map, compass and
protractor. Points on the LCC are clustered and range from 100-300 meters apart. Distance
between point clusters on the LCC will range from 1500-2000 meters.
The LCC is worth 100 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course and will be
calculated as a percentage (see Appendix B: Scoring Spreadsheet Example).
Army Warrior Task Station 1:
Once a squad has completed the LCC, it will move to WT Station 1 where the SL will check in
with the Station NCOIC with a sensitive items report IOT have their time logged. SL’s will turn in
their LCC lane sheets for scoring at this time. Station 1 NCOIC will ensure each squads arrival
and departure time is logged in the Warrior Task Station Log (see Appendix E: Warrior Task
Station Log). Once the squad has accounted for sensitive items and been logged into the station,
Station NCOIC will brief them on the Task, Conditions and Standards for Station 1. Station 1 will
be a Land Navigation Written Test. The written test is comprised of 10 questions covering the
specific Warrior Tasks listed in Appendix D. The test will be taken individually by each Soldier
and scored by the Station 1 NCOIC. Scored tests will be placed in a folder identified by squad
registration number and returned to the event OIC upon closeout of Station 1. The land
navigation written test is worth 50 points of the possible 1000 for the entire course. Each Soldiers
score will be calculated and a squad average determined as a percentage. Squads will then
receive that percentage of points for this event.
Once all members of the squad have completed the exam, the SL will draw 1 military PLGR from
Station 1, be issued a PLGR course Lane sheet, and begin the PLGR Course. SL’s will conduct
a final sensitive items check and report to the station NCOIC before departure.
Phase II will be complete once all squads have completed the LCC, taken the written test, drawn
a PLGR and cleared WT station 1 and begun the PLGR Land Navigation Course.
Phase III: Phase III begins once the first squad to complete the LCC steps onto the PLGR land
navigation course.

QTR No Slack Stakes: “Operation Rebels with a Cause”
PLGR Land Navigation Course:
On the PLGR Course, squads will locate 4 points on the ground using a military map, PLGR and
protractor. Points on the PLGR Course are clustered and range from 30-50 meters apart.
Distance between point clusters on the PLGR Course will range from 1000-1500 meters.
The PLGR Course is worth 100 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course and will be
calculated as a percentage (see Appendix B: Scoring Spreadsheet Example).
Army Warrior Task Station 2:
Once a squad has completed the PLGR Course, it will move to WT Station 2 where the SL will
check in with the Station NCOIC with a sensitive items report IOT have their time logged. SL’s
will turn in their PLGR’s and PLGR lane sheets for scoring at this time. Station 2 NCOIC will
ensure each squads arrival and departure time is logged in the Warrior Task Station Log (see
Appendix E: Warrior Task Station Log). Once the squad has accounted for sensitive items and
been logged into the station, Station 2 NCOIC will brief them on the Task, Conditions and
Standards for Station 2. Station 2 will be comprised of 7 Warrior tasks (see Appendix D) tested
as a practical exercise and scored as GO/NO-GO. Upon completion of each event, the Soldier
being tested will state that he or she has completed the task and the Task Grader will state GO or
NO-GO. If a Soldier receives a NO-GO, the scorer will explain the mistake and move to the next
task. Each task will only be attempted once per squad. The same Soldier cannot perform 2 tasks
unless the squad is comprised of 6 Soldiers or less.
Once the squads score sheet has been filled out and all GO/NO-GO’s recorded, score sheets will
be placed in a folder identified by squad registration number and returned to the event OIC upon
closeout of Station 2. The events at Station 2 are worth 100 points of the possible 1000 for the
entire course. Total GO’s and NO-GO’s will be calculated and a squad average determined as a
percentage. Squads will then receive that percentage of points for this event. Once all tasks have
been completed and scored, the squad will receive a strip map with points pre-plotted IOT begin
the Orienteering Course. SL’s will conduct a final sensitive items check and report to the station
NCOIC before departure.
Phase III will be complete once all squads have completed the PLGR Course, turned in their
PLGR, cleared WT station 2 and begun the Orienteering Course.
Phase IV: Phase IV begins once the first squad to complete the PLGR Course begins the
Orienteering Course.
Orienteering Course:
On the Orienteering Course, squads will locate 5 points on the ground using a Strip map, military
map, compass and protractor.
Points on the Orienteering Course are clustered and range from 50-500 meters apart. Distance
between point clusters on the Orienteering Course will range from 500-1500 meters.
The Orienteering Course is worth 100 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course and
will be calculated as a percentage (see Appendix B: Scoring Spreadsheet Example).
Army Warrior Task Station 3:
For those squads moving to the EST prior to beginning the LCC, the SL will check in with the WT
Station 3 NCOIC with a sensitive items report IOT have their time logged. The squad will then
begin completing Station 3 tasks.
For those squads moving to the EST following the Orienteering Course, the SL will check in with
the WT Station 3 NCOIC with a sensitive items report IOT have their time logged. SL’s will then
turn in their strip maps and orienteering points to the station NCOIC for scoring.

QTR No Slack Stakes: “Operation Rebels with a Cause”
Station 3 NCOIC will ensure each squads arrival and departure time is logged in the Warrior Task
Station Log (see Appendix E: Warrior Task Station Log). Once the squad has accounted for
sensitive items and been logged into the station, Station 3 NCOIC will brief them on the Task,
Conditions and Standards for Station 3.
Station 3 will consist of 3 separate areas.
Area 1: EST and target engagement tasks
Area 2: M2 .50 cal MG assembly, head space and timing/functions check, disassembly
Area 3: Combatives
In Area 1, the squad will react to a pre-selected scenario in which each Soldier will fire a set
number of rounds. The squad score will be the percentage of shots hit from total number of shots
fired. The EST scenario is worth 100 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course.
In Area 2, each Soldier will fall in on a M2 .50 cal MG and be tested (GO/NO-GO) on its
assembly, disassembly and setting the headspace and timing. Every Soldier will test in this area.
The squad will be scored based on the percentage of total GO’s received. The M2 task is worth
100 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course.
In Area 3, each Soldier will demonstrate 1 action from any of the 5 level one combatives drills. A
Level II Combatives certified instructor will name an action and have the Soldier demonstrate it
for a GO/NO-GO. The squad will be scored based on the percentage of total GO’s received. The
Combatives task is worth 100 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course.
Once the squads score sheet has been filled out and all GO/NO-GO’s and EST score has been
recorded, score sheets will be placed in a folder identified by squad registration number and
returned to the event OIC upon closeout of Station 3.
For those squads moving to the EST prior to beginning the LCC, once all tasks at Station 3 have
been completed and scored, the squad will receive a LCC lane sheet IOT begin the LCC. SL’s
will conduct a final sensitive items check and report to the station NCOIC before departure.
For those squads moving to the EST upon completion of the Orienteering Course, once all tasks
Station 3 have been completed and scored, the squad will then prepare to move back to the start
point by the most direct route possible. Upon arrival back at the start point, squads will check in
with the event OIC/NCOIC to have their final time recorded, report their sensitive items
accountability and begin the last stage of the competition.
Once back at the start point, those squads who have completed the 10-question ECP written
exam will prepare for the PCI inspection. All items listed in Appendix F are inspectable. Squad
will be scored based on percentage of total deficiencies. The PCI inspection is worth 200 points
of the possible 1000 points for the entire course.
Those squads that have not completed the 10-question ECP written exam will first take the exam
before setting up for the PCI inspection. This exam will be scored identically to the land
navigation exam. The test will be taken individually by each Soldier and scored by the exam
administrator. Scored tests will be placed in a folder identified by squad registration number and
returned to the event OIC. The ECP exam is worth 50 points of the possible 1000 points for the
entire course. Each Soldiers score will be calculated and a squad average determined as a
percentage. Squads will then receive that percentage of points for this event.
Phase IV will be complete once all squads have completed the PCI inspection.
Phase V: Phase V will begin once the first squad has completed the course and their overall
score is tabulated by the event OIC. During this phase Soldiers may relax, hydrate and eat while

awaiting the award ceremony. If all Soldiers have not reached WT Station 3 by 1900, those
squads still on the course will be directed to return to the start point and a TMP will be dispatched
to pick them up and escort them to the start point. The award ceremony is expected to begin at
approximately 2000 but will begin within 30 minutes of the last squads return to the start point.
The event OIC will notify unit CDR’s when the award ceremony is about to begin and have all
companies gathered near the event TOC. The award ceremony will be held informally but unit
integrity will be maintained as closely as possible.
Phase V will be complete upon conclusion of the BN CDR’s remarks following distribution of
awards.
Phase VI: Phase IV will begin upon completion of the award ceremony and will continue until
complete. All units will report 100% sensitive items accountability to event OIC prior to being
released to begin recovery operations. Units and staff sections are responsible for recovering
equipment provided for event support.

There will be a logistics rehearsal in the battalion conference room on 2 APR 07 at 1400 to confirm synchronization of event support elements. A full rehearsal will be held on 3 APR 07 with each station set up and ready to receive squads beginning at 1400. Event OIC and selected personnel will arrive at each station and be processed as a squad to validate the course. Squad registration will begin at 1300 on 3 APR and complete at 1700 (see Appendix A: 2
  • 3. 142d Combat Sustainment Support Battalion 2nd QTR No Slack Stakes: “Operation Rebels with a Cause” Squad Registration Form). Each squad will be assigned a number upon registration. Squads will be tracked across the course by registration number. Any changes to squad composition after registration will result in a 100 point penalty to the squads overall event score (See Appendix B for scoring information). Additionally, any squad failing to register by 1700 on 3 APR will also receive a 100 point penalty. Phase II: Begins at 0500 on 4 APR 07 when event support personnel arrive at 1st CSB Combatives pit to begin preparation for event set-up. Support personnel will move out NLT 0530 IOT set-up Warrior task stations. All Warrior Task Stations will be established and prepared to receive squads NLT 0630. The event TOC will be established NLT 0600 when units form on the field and begin stretching. At 0615, units will form around the event NCOIC to receive a course orientation and safety brief. The course will begin at 0630. Squads will be grouped according to registration number and will be instructed when to start the course (see Appendix C: Synch Matrix). Event NCOIC will supervise squads to ensure initial movement times are adhered to as closely as possible. Breakdown for movement will be as follows: - 4 squads will begin by ruck marching to the EST IOT complete WT Station 3 tasks (see Appendix D: Warrior Task List) before moving onto the Lensatic Compass Course (LCC). - 6 Squads will begin movement on the LCC. Lane sheets will be issued prior to departure. - 5 Squads will begin by taking the 10-question ECP test before moving onto the LCC. Lensatic Compass Land Navigation Course (LCC): On the LCC, squads will locate 3 points on the ground using a military map, compass and protractor. Points on the LCC are clustered and range from 100-300 meters apart. Distance between point clusters on the LCC will range from 1500-2000 meters. The LCC is worth 100 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course and will be calculated as a percentage (see Appendix B: Scoring Spreadsheet Example). Army Warrior Task Station 1: Once a squad has completed the LCC, it will move to WT Station 1 where the SL will check in with the Station NCOIC with a sensitive items report IOT have their time logged. SL’s will turn in their LCC lane sheets for scoring at this time. Station 1 NCOIC will ensure each squads arrival and departure time is logged in the Warrior Task Station Log (see Appendix E: Warrior Task Station Log). Once the squad has accounted for sensitive items and been logged into the station, Station NCOIC will brief them on the Task, Conditions and Standards for Station 1. Station 1 will be a Land Navigation Written Test. The written test is comprised of 10 questions covering the specific Warrior Tasks listed in Appendix D. The test will be taken individually by each Soldier and scored by the Station 1 NCOIC. Scored tests will be placed in a folder identified by squad registration number and returned to the event OIC upon closeout of Station 1. The land navigation written test is worth 50 points of the possible 1000 for the entire course. Each Soldiers score will be calculated and a squad average determined as a percentage. Squads will then receive that percentage of points for this event. Once all members of the squad have completed the exam, the SL will draw 1 military PLGR from Station 1, be issued a PLGR course Lane sheet, and begin the PLGR Course. SL’s will conduct a final sensitive items check and report to the station NCOIC before departure. Phase II will be complete once all squads have completed the LCC, taken the written test, drawn a PLGR and cleared WT station 1 and begun the PLGR Land Navigation Course. Phase III: Phase III begins once the first squad to complete the LCC steps onto the PLGR land navigation course. 3
  • 4. 142d Combat Sustainment Support Battalion 2nd QTR No Slack Stakes: “Operation Rebels with a Cause” PLGR Land Navigation Course: On the PLGR Course, squads will locate 4 points on the ground using a military map, PLGR and protractor. Points on the PLGR Course are clustered and range from 30-50 meters apart. Distance between point clusters on the PLGR Course will range from 1000-1500 meters. The PLGR Course is worth 100 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course and will be calculated as a percentage (see Appendix B: Scoring Spreadsheet Example). Army Warrior Task Station 2: Once a squad has completed the PLGR Course, it will move to WT Station 2 where the SL will check in with the Station NCOIC with a sensitive items report IOT have their time logged. SL’s will turn in their PLGR’s and PLGR lane sheets for scoring at this time. Station 2 NCOIC will ensure each squads arrival and departure time is logged in the Warrior Task Station Log (see Appendix E: Warrior Task Station Log). Once the squad has accounted for sensitive items and been logged into the station, Station 2 NCOIC will brief them on the Task, Conditions and Standards for Station 2. Station 2 will be comprised of 7 Warrior tasks (see Appendix D) tested as a practical exercise and scored as GO/NO-GO. Upon completion of each event, the Soldier being tested will state that he or she has completed the task and the Task Grader will state GO or NO-GO. If a Soldier receives a NO-GO, the scorer will explain the mistake and move to the next task. Each task will only be attempted once per squad. The same Soldier cannot perform 2 tasks unless the squad is comprised of 6 Soldiers or less. Once the squads score sheet has been filled out and all GO/NO-GO’s recorded, score sheets will be placed in a folder identified by squad registration number and returned to the event OIC upon closeout of Station 2. The events at Station 2 are worth 100 points of the possible 1000 for the entire course. Total GO’s and NO-GO’s will be calculated and a squad average determined as a percentage. Squads will then receive that percentage of points for this event. Once all tasks have been completed and scored, the squad will receive a strip map with points pre-plotted IOT begin the Orienteering Course. SL’s will conduct a final sensitive items check and report to the station NCOIC before departure. Phase III will be complete once all squads have completed the PLGR Course, turned in their PLGR, cleared WT station 2 and begun the Orienteering Course. Phase IV: Phase IV begins once the first squad to complete the PLGR Course begins the Orienteering Course. Orienteering Course: On the Orienteering Course, squads will locate 5 points on the ground using a Strip map, military map, compass and protractor. Points on the Orienteering Course are clustered and range from 50-500 meters apart. Distance between point clusters on the Orienteering Course will range from 500-1500 meters. The Orienteering Course is worth 100 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course and will be calculated as a percentage (see Appendix B: Scoring Spreadsheet Example). Army Warrior Task Station 3: For those squads moving to the EST prior to beginning the LCC, the SL will check in with the WT Station 3 NCOIC with a sensitive items report IOT have their time logged. The squad will then begin completing Station 3 tasks. For those squads moving to the EST following the Orienteering Course, the SL will check in with the WT Station 3 NCOIC with a sensitive items report IOT have their time logged. • 5. 142d Combat Sustainment Support Battalion 2nd QTR No Slack Stakes: “Operation Rebels with a Cause” Station 3 NCOIC will ensure each squads arrival and departure time is logged in the Warrior Task Station Log (see Appendix E: Warrior Task Station Log). Once the squad has accounted for sensitive items and been logged into the station, Station 3 NCOIC will brief them on the Task, Conditions and Standards for Station 3. Station 3 will consist of 3 separate areas. Area 1: EST and target engagement tasks Area 2: M2 .50 cal MG assembly, head space and timing/functions check, disassembly Area 3: Combatives In Area 1, the squad will react to a pre-selected scenario in which each Soldier will fire a set number of rounds. The squad score will be the percentage of shots hit from total number of shots fired. The EST scenario is worth 100 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course. In Area 2, each Soldier will fall in on a M2 .50 cal MG and be tested (GO/NO-GO) on its assembly, disassembly and setting the headspace and timing. Every Soldier will test in this area. The squad will be scored based on the percentage of total GO’s received. The M2 task is worth 100 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course. In Area 3, each Soldier will demonstrate 1 action from any of the 5 level one combatives drills. A Level II Combatives certified instructor will name an action and have the Soldier demonstrate it for a GO/NO-GO. The squad will be scored based on the percentage of total GO’s received. The Combatives task is worth 100 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course. Once the squads score sheet has been filled out and all GO/NO-GO’s and EST score has been recorded, score sheets will be placed in a folder identified by squad registration number and returned to the event OIC upon closeout of Station 3. For those squads moving to the EST prior to beginning the LCC, once all tasks at Station 3 have been completed and scored, the squad will receive a LCC lane sheet IOT begin the LCC. SL’s will conduct a final sensitive items check and report to the station NCOIC before departure. For those squads moving to the EST upon completion of the Orienteering Course, once all tasks Station 3 have been completed and scored, the squad will then prepare to move back to the start point by the most direct route possible. Upon arrival back at the start point, squads will check in with the event OIC/NCOIC to have their final time recorded, report their sensitive items accountability and begin the last stage of the competition. Once back at the start point, those squads who have completed the 10-question ECP written exam will prepare for the PCI inspection. All items listed in Appendix F are inspectable. Squad will be scored based on percentage of total deficiencies. The PCI inspection is worth 200 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course. Those squads that have not completed the 10-question ECP written exam will first take the exam before setting up for the PCI inspection. This exam will be scored identically to the land navigation exam. The test will be taken individually by each Soldier and scored by the exam administrator. Scored tests will be placed in a folder identified by squad registration number and returned to the event OIC. The ECP exam is worth 50 points of the possible 1000 points for the entire course. Each Soldiers score will be calculated and a squad average determined as a percentage. Squads will then receive that percentage of points for this event. Phase IV will be complete once all squads have completed the PCI inspection. Phase V: Phase V will begin once the first squad has completed the course and their overall score is tabulated by the event OIC. During this phase Soldiers may relax, hydrate and eat while 5
