The 8th Mountain ICS Summit 2019
1. THE 8TH MOUNTAIN:
The Mountain of the House of the Lord
Dr. Bruce Cook
KCIA Chairman
March 28, 2019
International Culture Shapers Summit
2.
3. PSALM 24:3-6
• “Who may climb the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place? Only those
whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not
worship idols and never tell lies. They will
receive the Lord’s blessing and have a right
relationship with God their Savior. Such
people may seek you and worship in your
presence, O God of Jacob.” (NLT)
4. CULTURAL SYMPTOMS
• Relativism, humanism, secularism, and
universalism are rampant today. Divorce and the
breakdown of families are on the rise. Erosion of
cultural norms, values, institutions & foundations.
• Social media, cell phones, Internet, & personal
computers have created global access, global
connectivity, and a global audience/community.
• For many decades the Church and most
theologians have asked and taught a one-
dimensional question: Are you rapture ready?
Also, the doctrine of cessationism has stripped
the Church of its power source, the Holy Spirit.
5. CULTURAL SYMPTOMS
• The Church has viewed heaven as exclusively reserved
for the future and not available to us in the present.
The Church has viewed the Marketplace (Business,
Education, Government, Media, Arts & Entertainment,
as evil, taboo, dirty, and something to be avoided,
separated, or minimized. The Church has focused on
numbers and not discipleship, on programs rather than
His presence, on problems rather than solutions.
• Western culture has experienced a significant spiritual
deterioration and moral decline since World War II, and
the Church has had many scandals among leadership,
and lost influence and perceived relevance in the eyes
of society and cultural elites.
6. THE PROBLEM
• The 7 Mountains Movement has focused on the 7
Mountains of Culture on earth to the exclusion of
the 8th Mountain that both Loren Cunningham
and Bill Bright saw in vision form.
• The 8th Mountain rose and towered above the
other 7 Mountains in their visions.
• So in reality there are 8 Mountains – 7 on earth
and 1 in heaven. We have left out the most
important one—the Mountain of the Lord.
7. THE SOLUTION
• We need to expand our scope and focus and
integrate the 7 Mountains of Culture on the
earth with the 8th Mountain in heaven — the
Mountain of the House of the Lord.
8. WHAT IS THE 8th MOUNTAIN?
• It’s the Mountain of the House of the Lord
(Isaiah 2:1-5 and Micah 4:1-5).
• It’s Heaven—the place where God dwells with
the holy angels, great cloud of witnesses, the
24 elders, & 4 living creatures (Heb. 12:22-24).
• It’s a place you and I have access to today – we
are seated with Christ in heavenly places (Eph.
2:6) and eternity is in our hearts (Eccl. 3:11).
• It’s a place to be empowered and transformed.
9. WHAT IS THE 8TH MOUNTAIN?
• It is a place of intimacy and love, encounter,
surrender to the Spirit, worship, justice and
equity, righteousness, purity, holiness, power,
might, authority, counsel, strategy, wisdom,
revelation, understanding, honor, majesty,
splendor, glory, dominion, security, peace,
rest, and teaching of the word of the Lord.
10. WHAT IS THE 8TH MOUNTAIN?
• It’s called “the chief of the mountains” in both
Micah 4:1 and Isaiah 2:2. The Hebrew word
used for chief here is rosh, meaning “head,
top, summit, upper part, chief, total, sum,
height, front, beginning.” Headship conveys
covering or rulership, as used in 1 Cor. 11:3,
Eph. 4:15, and Eph. 5:23. It will be raised or
exalted above the other hills and mountains,
and peoples and nations will stream to it.
11. WHAT IS THE 8TH MOUNTAIN?
• The mountain of the Lord is not only chief, but
is preeminent. It is unequaled, unparalleled,
and unsurpassed in wisdom, love, unity, joy,
peace, honor, glory, majesty, splendor, beauty,
worship, wealth, riches, and any other quality,
attribute, or characteristic imaginable. Hence
the enormous popularity of the song and
recent movie, “I Can Only Imagine.”
12. WHAT IS THE 8TH MOUNTAIN?
• Scripture clearly depicts mountains as symbols
of kingdoms and dominions. Daniel 2:44-45
says, “In the time of those kings, the God of
heaven will set up a kingdom that will never
be destroyed, nor will it be left to another
people. It will crush all those kingdoms and
bring them to an end, but it will itself endure
forever. This is the meaning of the vision of
the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by
human hands –
13. WHAT IS THE 8TH MOUNTAIN?
• -- a rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay,
the silver and the gold to pieces. The great God
has shown the king what will take place in the
future. The dream is true and the interpretation
is trustworthy.”
• The kingdom of God and the Mountain of the
Lord are eternal and enduring and unshakeable.
The kingdom of God that Jesus taught and
preached while on the earth was cut out of the
Mountain of the Lord, but not by human hands.
14. THE 8th MOUNTAIN’S IMPORTANCE
• It’s the Force and Source that Governs the 7
Cultural Mountains on the earth
• It’s the Source of Love and Intimacy, Forgiveness
and Mercy, Power and Authority, Rest and
Security, Sonship and Godly Identity, Glory,
Righteousness and Justice, Honor, Riches and
Wealth, Worship and Communion, Wisdom and
Understanding, Revelation and Strategy, Favor
and Friendship, Blessing and Giving, Salvation
and Healing, Promotion, and Transformation
15. THE SEQUENCE HAS BEEN WRONG
• We have taught and thought that we first have to
climb, ascend, master, infiltrate, influence,
impact, control and/or dominate our sphere(s) of
influence and the 7 Mountains of Culture.
• In reality, God’s design is that we first climb and
ascend the Mountain of the House of the Lord
(8th Mountain). There we are transformed and
empowered so that we can make a difference in
one or more of the 7 Mountains of Culture.
• God in His mercy and grace will meet us where
we are at when we are saved and born again and
filled with His Spirit, and will begin to sanctify us.
16. MATTHEW 6:33
• “But seek first the kingdom of God and His
righteousness, and all these things shall be
given to you as well.” (NKJV)
17. MATTHEW 22:37-40
• Jesus replied, “‘LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD
WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR
SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ This is the
first and greatest commandment. And the
second is like it: ‘LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS
YOURSELF.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang
on these two commandments.”
18. NOT BY MIGHT NOR BY POWER
• None of us is designed or equipped to do life on
our own, to fulfill our purpose, destiny, and
legacy in isolation. We all need followers, peers,
superiors, and teammates with interlocking
assignments to help us. Jesus did; so will you.
• Zechariah 4:6 says, Then he said to me, "This is
the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel saying,
'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,'
says the LORD of hosts.
19. JOIN THE ASCENT
• Join the global community of spiritual
mountaineers who are climbing and ascending
the Mountain of the Lord, one day at a time,
one truth at a time, one relationship at a time,
one act of obedience, one revelation, one
prayer, one repentance, one forgiveness, one
act of service, one sacrifice, one decree and
declaration, one strategy, one revelation, one
risk, one test, one trial, one victory, at a time.
