Dr Molly-The big picture

  1. 1. Parable of the Jigsaw puzzle CMF Annual conference 2017
  2. 2. Parables • Lord Jesus spoke in parables to convey deep truths to people who were really seeking to know the depths of a matter • It was a test to filter the casual follower from the serious follower • He used familiar things which His hearers could relate with • It often had many layers of truth hidden in it which could be unravelled only by the eager seeker
  3. 3. Puzzle game Group 1 • Work with sense of direction • Work with sense of purpose • Redeem time • Work with a sense of excitement and enthusiasm • Crowned with a sense of accomplishment or fulfillment Group 2 • Confusion • Time is lost • No sense of direction other than gut feeling • Exhausted, discouraged, disillusioned
  4. 4. Phil 2:12
  5. 5. Child practising piano
  6. 6. Do I have a big picture as a medical student
  7. 7. Our learning is disconnected • Pharmacology – chloroquine • Parasitology – plasmodium • Medicine - Malaria Patient with cerebral malaria symptoms diagnose Cause and treatment Complications of disease, complications of drug Every piece of knowledge we learn is going to be critical in the life of a human being we are going to treat, cure, save life……
  9. 9. • How do you see? Do you see the big picture at once?
  10. 10. HOW DO I VIEW THINGS WHAT INFLUENCES • My present knowledge • My personal experience
  11. 11. Kingdom of God • Mentioned more than 90 times • Different facets of the KOG explained by the different parables • Our lives will make sense only when we are able to find our place in this big picture of KOG
  12. 12. The grand narrative-From the garden to the city KOG-SHALOM KOG Kingdom Lost Kingdom Redeemed Restored Kings mission Jn3:3 Phil 2:9,10,11
  13. 13. Multifaceted KOG (Mat 13) • The kingdom has small beginnings • It advances slowly and unspectacularly • It works in an unseen way, like the yeast in dough • It grows side by side with evil and error • Its members are drawn from every part, for it is an universal kingdom • When discovered it is the source of true joy and fulfillment • It out prices everything in sight • It requires sacrifices and surrender • It culminates in an eternal separation of the good from the evil, of the true from the false. Taken from “Does God reign. Making sense of the Kingdom of God by Richard Bewes
  14. 14. Jesus Christ as King • Are you the King (Jn 18:33) • My Kingdom is not of this world (Jn18;36) • Inscription on the cross (Lk 23:38) • Remember me when you come in your Kingdom (Lk23:42) • Born in a stable • Obscure life upto 30yrs • Riding on a donkey • Bound by chains • Crowned by thorns • Disrobed and naked • Helpless and vulnerable
  15. 15. KOG • Ressurection-vindicated the Kings mission • Ascension –celebrated it • Pentecost-broadened its impact to world wide dimension
  16. 16. Big picture reminds us that working out ones salvation is a “Glocal” experience • You shall be might witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea , Samaria and uttermost parts of the world (Acts 1:8) • Rev5:9,10 – From every tribe and tongue • The possibilities and potential to which God can use you is unlimited
  17. 17. Kingdom dimension If the fall has far reaching consequences than just breaking of man’s relationship with God, then the work of redemption also should have far reaching consequences and dimensions than just personal salvation and personal holiness.
  18. 18. Kingdom of God • Consists of people whose hearts have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and have yielded their lives to the Lordship of Jesus • People who live out their lives under the Kingdom principles for Big Kingdom purposes • People who not only pursue personal holiness in their desire to be restored to the ‘’image of God” which was broken by the fall BUT also who work towards restoration of Shalom in all the areas where Shalom was broken
  19. 19. BIG PICTURE • Invisible Kingdom x visible kingdom • Indestructible or Eternal Kingdom (Heb11:28) (Dan 2:44) • Inclusive Kingdom-Rev 5:5 • Involvement (Lk19:11-27)
  20. 20. YOU are a significant part of BIG PICTURE • A single piece of the puzzle becomes significant only when it is a part of the BIG PICTURE • If we try to find significance by looking at our own life, work, ministry it will be like the piece lying away.
  21. 21. • Living for something bigger than you (KOG) is the greatest adventure of life to which God calls you

  26. 26. Is 40:31 But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Born again to fly like an eagle!
  27. 27. • Have entertainment any role in the Christian life? Reviewing my spiritual life have I been influenced negatively by them? Have they changed my priorities? • How do i relate to the following passages in the light of eternity? – 1 Cor 6:12 – 2 Cor 10:5 – Col 2:8 – Eph 5:15-17 • What stand shall I take with respect to different entertainment in campus,in which I am compelled to participate
