2. DEFINITION
(MERRIAM-WEBSTER DICTIONARY)
• PURPOSE: the reason why something is done or used.
the aim or intention of something.
• CAPITAL: relating to or being assets that add to the long-term
worth of a corporation.
• KINGDOM: the spiritual world of which God is King.

3. ILLUSTRATION:
PURPOSE OF CAPITAL IN THE KINGDOM
CAPITAL is whatever asset God has bestowed or invested in us;
property, money, intellect, wisdom, knowledge, understanding,
creativity, talent, connection, vision, unction, revelation, beauty,
physique, etc.

4. EXAMPLES OF CAPITAL:
• POLITICAL / FINANCIAL: JOSEPH OF ARIMATHEA, a Counsellor
and a Rich Man. MATT. 27:57-60; LUKE 23:50-53; and NICODEMUS
LUKE 19:38-42 He invested his political and financial capital in the
Kingdom. He asked for the Body of Jesus Christ from Pontius Pilate
and laid Him in his Brand New Tomb! NEHEMIAH: NEH. 1-6.
• ECONOMIC: JOSEPH SON OF JACOB had economic capital in
Egypt and invested it to advance his family and brethren, the Israelites
in the time of famine.

5. • BEAUTY/MARITAL: Queen Esther had beauty/marital capital as
First Lady and invested it to bring deliverance to the people of Israel.
• (INTELLECTUAL/SPIRITUAL: JOSEPH in Egypt GEN. 40 & 41;
DANIEL & CO. in Babylon DANIEL 1 – 6; BEZALEEL THE SON OF
URI EXODUS 31:1-11; DEBORAH JUDGES 4 invested their
intellectual/spiritual capitals to advance God’s Kingdom.
• PHYSIQUE: Samson used his physique to deliver the Israelites from
the Philistines. JUDGES 14, 15 and 16.

• MATTHEW 25:14-30 “For the kingdom of heaven is as a man
travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered
unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another
two, and to another one; to every man according to his several
ability;
• EPHESIANS 4:7 “But unto every one of us is given grace according to
the measure of the gift of Christ.”

KINGDOM
Invest: Trade, Multiply, Make Profit:
• (a) GENESIS 1:27-28 “Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth
and have dominion . . .
• (b) MATTHEW 25:14-30 “. . . I have gained five more talents . . . Well
done thou good and profitable servant . . . Enter thou into the joy of
thy Lord . . . I have gained two more talents . . . Well done thou
good and profitable servant . . .

8. THE PURPOSE OF CAPITAL IN THE
KINGDOM
• Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord . . . I was afraid, and went and hid
thy talent in the earth . . . Thou wicked and slothful servant Thou
oughtest therefore to have, and then put my money to exchangers at
my coming I should have received mine own with usury (interest).
Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten
talents. . . And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness:
there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

9. Invest in yourself and others
• (a)GENESIS 12:2 “. . . And I will bless thee, and make thy name great;
and thou shalt be a blessing . . . and in thee shall all families of the earth
be blessed.”
• (b) 1 PETER 4:10 “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister
the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of
God.”

Invest in God’s Kingdom First
• (a) PROVERBS 3:9-10 “Honour the Lord with thy substance; and with
the firstfruits of all thine increase. So shall thy barns be filled with
plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
• (b) THE ISRAELITES: EXODUS 11:2-3; 12:35-36; EXODUS 35:5;
36:5-6. God granted them favour before the Egyptians and they got
their gold, silver and raiment. The first thing God asked them to do with
all their spoil was to collect an offering and build a tabernacle for God.
They gave more than enough; they had to be restrained from bringing.
God gave them in return cities they did not build, wells they did not dig
and vineyards they did not plant. DEUT. 6:10-11.

11. • (c) DAVID: 2 SAMUEL 7:1-17 Took initiative to build for God and God
gave him an everlasting kingdom.
• (d) SOLOMON: 1 KINGS 3:3-15 Gave God 1,000 Bullocks and God
gave him Uncommon Wisdom and Wealth

• ECCL. 2:4 “There is nothing better than for a man than he should eat
and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour.
This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.”

12. Invest in Your Family
• 1 TIMOTHY 5:8 “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for
those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an
infidel.”
• (b) PROVERBS 13:22 “A good man leaveth an inheritance to his
children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.”
• ABRAHAM gave all that he had to Isaac GEN. 25:5-6;
• (d) JACOB bequeathed his well to his children and many generations
till JESUS drank there JOHN 4:12

13. Invest in the Needy and the Poor
• PROVERBS 19:17 “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the
Lord and that which he hath given will He pay him again.”
• (b) DORCAS ACTS 10:36-42 CORNELIUS ACTS 10:1-4
• Their investment of Capital in the Needy and Poor was a memorial
before God.
• (c) Investing Capital in the Needy is a condition for us to make Heaven.
“. . . Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in
prison, and ye came unto me . . .” MATTHEW 25:31-46

14. Invest in Ministers of God: Priests, Prophets, Missionaries,
Evangelists, etc.
• NUMBERS 35:2 “Command the children of Israel, that they give unto
the Levites of the inheritance of their possession.” NOTE: It is a
COMMAND!
• (b) SAUL asked his servant what they will give to Prophet Samuel. 1
SAM. 9:6-10
• (c) THE SHUNAMITE WOMAN constrained Prophet Elisha to eat
bread in her house. She took initiative to build and furnish a flat for him;
God furnished her life with a son. 2 KINGS 4:8-37

15. • (d) MARY MAGDALENE anointed Jesus Christ with very precious
Alabaster Ointment; till today, she is reference point in the four Gospels
and all over the world. MATTHEW 26:7, MARK 14:3, LUKE 7:37:
• (e) The WOMEN who followed Jesus Christ everywhere and
ministered to Him from their substance. MATTHEW 27:55; LUKE 8:2-3
• (f) THE MAN who gave Jesus his Brand New Colt (CAR) and A GOOD
MAN who gave his Large Upper Room Furnished for the Last Supper
MARK 11:1-3; 14:12-15!

16. Invest in Your Friends, the Brethren, Strangers and All Men
• 1 SAM. 30:26 David sent part of his loot from the battle of Ziklag to his
friends.
• (b) GAL. 6:10 “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all
men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
• (c) HEB. 13:2 “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some
have entertained angels unawares.” ABRAHAM GEN. 18:1-5; LOT

17. PURPOSE OF CAPITAL IN THE KINGDOM
IN THE OLD AND MODERN TIMES
• (i) SOCIAL WELFARISM: that is practiced in many countries of the
world today can be traced to ACTS 4:34-35 “Neither was there any
among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands
or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were
sold, And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was
made unto every man according as he had need.”

18. (ii) ORTHODOX AND RECENTLY SOME PENTECOSTAL CHURCHES:
Invested in Schools, Hospitals, Institutions for the Physically Challenged,
Orphanages, Scholarships, Welfare, etc.
(iii) FOUNDATIONS: Many individuals and organizations established
foundations for the same purpose: Ford Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation, Clinton Foundation, Dangote Foundation, MTN Foundation,
T. Y. Danjuma Foundation, Bola Adams Foundation, etc.
(iv) TESTIMONIES: Gave to my needy neighbours and family without
preaching or giving tracts; they came to church and gave their lives to
Jesus.

19. CONCLUSION
1 TIMOTHY 6:17-18 “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they
be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God,
who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be
rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying
up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come,
that they may lay hold on eternal life
