What I have learnt from
My Analysis
For my magazine I had to analyse many different aspects of a magazine
e.g. colour, layout, photo placement and many more.
First of all I have learnt how colours go together on a rock magazine;
these colours are traditionally red, black, and white and sometimes
yellow. Some magazine will break the traditionally layout to either stand
out or make a statement to the reader that their magazine isn’t afraid to
stand out and break the rules or that they are such a famous and well
known magazine that they can get away with anything no matter how un-
traditional and ab-normal they colours may be.
When you layout your text around your main picture you must stay clear
of the face with any text as this will make it look unprofessional and will
obstruct the image. When using text it is not uncommon to use different
colours to highlight key factors of your articles e.g. and article about Foo
Fighters will be highlighted in colour as they are the main story and a big
part of the magazine as they are massive worldwide which will bring
advertisement to the magazine. Also by using ruler guides on Photoshop
it will help give a more professional and attractive to the reader or
potential buyer.
I have learnt when placing photos on the front cover that the picture
wouldn’t be central but slightly to the right or left as this gives room for
text and or articles to be placed around the image.
The review I have done on most magazine’s will show either a range of
different fonts, texts, colours to make the magazine stand out from its
competitors and the other half will use traditional colouring and photo’s
to give it that classic rock magazine look we all love and are pleasant to
the eye. In my magazine I will be using some techniques that I have
picked up on such as giving my text its own columns to keep it neat and
to position my photo slightly of centre of the screen.
