2. Peer Assessment:
For the final edit of the music video,
magazine advert, and digipak, I asked
some questions to various people for
feedback on how the entire promotional
package worked together, along with
what they all individually thought
worked well and what could be
improved.
3. 1. Does the digipak, advert, and music video work well together and help
to define a star iconography and artist style? – How?
• Overall, there was clearly a strong
link through the use of colour within
the promotional package that was
received by all of the people who
answered the first question.
• “The whole theme has been carried
out throughout all of the products”
• “I think so, especially with the…
use of selective colours”
• “The use of similar images helps
create your brand identity”
4. • “There is a dark theme running throughout”
• “The inclusion of photographs of the artists
featuring in your music video works well”
• “The colours that you have used helps them
link and the actual clothing you have used to”
• “They all fit together clearly through costume and
the ‘darkness’ helps link the genre of the song”
5. • From the audience
feedback, there was an
obvious fondness
towards the colour
scheme used throughout
the entire promotional
package, linking the
colour of even the actors
clothing into the style.
• The audience also thought
the use of the actors
images within the
ancillary products worked
effectively, helping to
further establish the link
between the music video
and the ancillary
products.
• From the audience
feedback I have received
about my final edits of the
ancillary products and the
music video, I am pleased
that the audience have
seen a link throughout the
promotional package and
believe that it has helped
to define a star
iconography.
6. 2. Do you think the style of the advert, digipak, and insert illustrate other
styles seen in Pop genre music and promotional packages? – How?
• “”By how they are picking up on a certain
colour.. helps link things together”
• “It creates an iconic image for
the artist”
• “The whole product consists of a lot of
information”
• “It all follows the same style, [helping]
the audience to recognise it”
7. • “The use of selective colours create a recognisable style”
• “Involves same conventions as similar pop genre promo-packages”
• “Pop genre generally use a similar colour scheme throughout
8. • I wanted to ask how the
ancillary products reflect
the style of the pop genre
and if the promotional
package reflects this,
which was received well
by the audience, primarily
for the continuum of the
same colour scheme
throughout the products.
• The audience said that
the use of selected colour
within the digipak, insert,
and magazine advert was
a key factor in the design
of those products standing
out and helping to form a
star iconography for the
artist.
• Through the use of
imagery and a colour
scheme, the audience
found a lot of visual
information throughout
the promotional package
that has been reflected by
their optimism towards
the ancillary products.
9. 3. Do you think the music video works well as a narrative music video, and does it
expand on the music and the lyrics of the song; what do you think the narrative is
saying/ what is the narrative?
• “The narrative… helps you concentrate
on the lyrics”
• “I think the narrative is about him now in debt,
as an alcoholic, contrasting his childhood”
• “The video works well as a narrative music video”
10. • “We see more than we expect with the drinking parts, which reflect parts of his life
that help us understand what’s going on in the video”
• “He is missing his childhood and sees he is an adult now and he is
facing financial – and other – problems in his life”
• “It shows how different his life has become in contrast to his
innocent childhood”
• “I think it works well as a narrative”
• “It shows a very clear contrast between his life; past and present”
11. • The worry with the
fragmented timeline
within the narrative was
wondering if the audience
would receive the correct/
desired meaning from the
narrative we were trying
to portray; alcoholism,
depression, movement of
time within someone’s life.
• From the audience
feedback of the music
video, it was very clear to
the audience that the
narrative was reflective
on the protagonist’s past
and his childhood; this
reflection leading to
sadness and, therefore,
alcoholism.
• I am also pleased that
every audience member
read the two characters as
the main protagonist and
himself as a child, instead
of any unwanted readings
such as the protagonist’s
son, which is not what the
narrative is about.
12. 4. What aspects of the entire promotional package do you like and/ or dislike?
– Explain?
• “The iconography of it brings everything together,
specifically with the use of colour, helping to show
this is a promotional package”
• “I like the outside of the digipak through how they
are wearing the same thing, their eye colour is
highlighted and how it is half of them shows ‘one’”
• “I like the actual music style and how you have
created a narrative”
13. • “The use of a narrative makes the audience want to watch the
music video because they want to see what happens next
(action codes, enigma codes, etc..)”
• “The digipak works well with the insert as it offers more information to
the fans about the artist – the consumers get what they have paid for”
• “I think the digipak would work better with a price on the back, consider the insert
as well that I personally feel would make the digipak cost more”
14. • “The jacket as iconography I think works well too, connecting
his past and present”
• “The use of a narrative makes the audience want to watch the music
video because they want to see what happens next (action codes,
enigma codes, etc..)”
• “I like how the products fit together in their pop genre style
and expresses this through all three products”
15. • “I like the fact that you have included an insert as, from looking at
others work, it will make your product stand out”
• “I like that the image on the front cover doesn’t give many ‘clues’ and will
intrigue your audience into picking it up from in between others on the shelf”
16. • From the audience
feedback, they all seem to
attain some likeness
towards the entire
promotional package for a
number of individual
reasons, showing how the
package is helping to
draw different people’s
attention.
• The audience reflected
back that they like the
iconography being
presented to them and
how this is key-catching,
along with how the theme
and extras – like the
insert – help to give the
audience more
information about the
artist
• The audience also seem to
like the chosen theme and
‘trigger objects’ that help
them recognise the artist
and the music video,
displaying how the entire
promotional package links
together. The only
criticism was the need to
add a price to the digipak.
17. • Overall, I am happy with the audience feedback I have gained about the entire promotional
package, learning that the audience have received the desired readings from the music
video, along with the appeal to the star iconography I have created for the digipak, insert,
and magazine advert.
