Accounting I and Math with Business Applications
Cohort Opportunity
This cohort opportunity offers students in the Accounting and
Business Management programs an integrated math and accounting
curriculum. Its goal is to improve your success in the two courses as
well as increase the completion rate in the two programs overall.
What are the benefits of this cohort?
• Making Connections: New contextualized math curricula to
support the Accounting and Business Management programs
by including accounting and business management
vocabulary, concepts and applications. Allows students to see
how mathematics is applied directly to their field of study.
• Building Community: Cohort model creates a sense of
community between the students, in turn, creating a safe and
comfortable learning environment. Students naturally form
study groups and are a positive peer influence on the other
students in the course.
• Learning Activities: The cohort model incorporates a number
of different student learning activities including discussion
groups, group work, projects, and online computer homework.
• Interdisciplinary Support: Accounting and Math Instructors
work closely together throughout the semester to discuss
student performance and to collaborate on how to support
each other’s course.
• Supplemental Instruction: The accounting lab has been
enhanced to include a study room equipped with laptops and
projection equipment. Students will also have access to
instructors and coaching staff, and will have the ability to
engage in small group activities to reinforce concepts
associated with mathematics and accounting.
