The base compound must be prepared
according to the expected load.
For light traffic (e.g car parks) a
compacted pebble or crushed stone
mixture of an appropriate thickness of
30 - 40 cm (0/45mm grain size) is
required, for truck traffic approximately
50cm.
Laying of the grass grids is carried out
on a smoothly levelled layer of
approximately 2 - 5 cm of sand or grit.
When laying the grass grids the
expansion behaviour of recycled
plastics caused by temperature
fluctuations should be taken into
account. Therefore an expansion gap
of 1.0 - 1.5 cm per square meter
should be arranged in every direction.
The grass grid holes are subsequently
filled with soil, grit, humus, sand or a
growth stimulating mixture. Finally, the
laid area is compacted by means of a
vibrator plate.

the production of recycled plastic products.
When the company was founded in 1993, this industrial
sector was still in the first stages of its development. There
was little in the way of sophisticated manufacturing know-
how or marketable products.
Hahn made a significant contribution to the consumer
acceptance, high profile, and success of products made
from recycled post-consumer and post-industrial plastic
waste.
From humble beginnings, turning yogurt pots into park
benches, the industry, led by Hahn has moved on to a
wide range of final applications.
The facility in Germany has an area of 75,000
m² with over 200 employees and sell over

1,000 products using the hanit trademark.
The range of products not only comprises
items for garden and park design but also
includes complex industrial products
exclusively manufactured to customer
specifications.
In 2012 Hahn Kunststoffe GmbH decided to
expand into the UK market. Hahn Plastics
Limited opened its office and warehouse in
November 2012. By March 2013 the
machines were set up and UK manufacturing
began in Manchester.
