1. There was a 38% increase in waste from 2011 to 2012 at an F&P Georgia facility. 2. An environmental team was formed to achieve business plan goals and reduce waste. 3. Changes were made to waste disposal methods including moving metal and trash hoppers away from the building, adding cardboard balers in high use areas to reduce travel time, and having a recycling vendor haul away sludge and other items instead of sending to a landfill.

7. New method: Since the trash hopper was close by, associates would throw
the cardboard in it. By placing the Trash & Metal Hoppers away from the
backdoor making it more difficult for the associate to throw their waste away
resulting in more use with the recycling hoppers inside of the building.

8. Old method: Only 1 cardboard compactor made it difficult for associates to
use and did not encourage recycling. The associates would travel
approximately 1,200 ft multiple times a day to discard the cardboard.

9. New method: Adding additional 2 Cardboard Balers and 1 Plastic Baler. The
cardboard compactors were placed in the high cardboard use areas resulting in a
75% travel reduction for the associates with more incentives to use.
*The recycling vendor supplied the additional hoppers at no extra cost.

10. New method: The recycling vendor provided a overhead shed & will
haul away the sludge with no hauling charges. Internally, the sludge
is dried before hauled away reducing landfill weight cost due to
removing water weight.

17. F&P uses a cleaning company to clean the soiled gloves,
aprons, & sleeves. The average quantity cleaned a year
is about 44,600. This is about 33,400 lbs. which does
not make it to the landfill.
