1. PERSONAL STATEMENT
I have applied to join the army as a soldier for the RLC (royal logistics corps) and be a driver
comms specialist. I applied for the army because I have always been fascinated by any form
of military for as long as I can remember and have always idolised those who are or have
been in the military.
I applied to be a specialist comms driver as I enjoy driving and know there are many career
possibility’s after the army due to the licences available. The sense of belonging and
comradery that is in the army is almost unparalleled in any other line of work, the army also
promotes teamwork, health/fitness, trying new things and going to new places you would
have never thought of going to or doing. There are many good things about the military
during and after service which can help during life with confidence team work and most
importantly respect for others and yourself.
I enjoy photography mostly of landscapes or animals, gaming, music and rugby league. I
enjoy doing charity work and have participated in several charity events, with my personal
overall contribution being in excess of £1000 from selling my photography on calendars and
merchandise.
I went to York high school and studied the core subjects along with Music Technology,
Media, History and Geography. Currently I am studying an Extended Diploma in Creative
Media Production and Technology at York College. I am in my second year and enjoy all
subjects explored on the course and the creative freedom within it. The first year was split
into 4 sectors, music video, animation, audio and graphic design. I excelled at the video and
print sectors due to the ability to employ my photography skills. Doing Media at a GCSE level
led to me choosing Media at college as I enjoyed the projects and opportunity to develop
my photography skills.
I am currently also working part time in the hospitality sector, handling goods and
exchanges. I’ve worked there for 3 months at the time of writing and enjoying the
opportunities it brings meeting new people, developing my communication and social skills
from dealing with costumers and colleagues and exhibiting my financial responsibility and
independence, earning my own money. I also believe I have matured from getting a job and
having to follow orders I believe is helping me prepare my mindset for joining the army.
