Personal Statement
I have been inspired by many people throughout my time doing Performing Arts, Music,
Photography and Media. Music teachers have helped me gain possibilities, people in my
Performing Arts group and encouraged me to perform, my uncle who has had no
photography lessons has shared opportunities by letting me go with him on photo shoots,
also, films and film reviews have inspired me to learn how things are done and why they
were done. I have always known I wanted to have a creative job and by learning the ways of
Radio and filming music videos has shown me a wider range of creative things I can do.

The reason I would like to take on this course is because I am very interested in the whole
Media industry. In my spare time I go out and take photos and edit them using an online
editing site. The pictures I take care of, mostly, buildings. I would love to take a wider range
of photos, such as, of models. I have my own equipment, including, Camera (NikonD3000),
Video Camera, Flashgun and a tripod. I got into photography when I was in year ten at
Harrop Fold High School. This showed me the behind scenes part of the Media and it really
interested me. I also watch videos of music videos being made. This is to give me an idea of
what it would be like on set. From this it has helped me decide that I would like to go into
television, being a director or producer.

During college we learned about the Radio industry. Having a go with the equipment myself,
made me find the radio industry interesting and enjoyable. After listening to radio stations,
such as, Radio One and Xfm, it made me think about working as a DJ for a radio station, or
putting together a radio show. This is why I am interested in studying the Radio side of the
industry. With me really enjoying music and being creative with photography and filming, I
find this course will be perfect to cover both areas and I will enjoy doing the assignments
given.

I am glad I chose Media in College because it is perfect for what I want to do in University
and as a job. Also, in High School, taking Performing Arts gave me the experience of
directing and coming with artistic ideas that will entertain. We also had to choose the
lighting we wanted and the sounds that were needed. It helped taking that option for 2
years because with my High School not having Media as an option, this felt like the closest
thing to it. Having the chance to direct our performances made me realise how much I enjoy
the behind the scenes of Media. Also, taking the after school course of Photography helped
show me the filming and making side of the Media. All my experiences have been important
and I have learned a lot from them. I find that going to University will help me learn a lot
more about the Media industry in much greater detail. I have never doubted the thought of
going to University because of my influences at home and because I want to learn more and
ensure I have the qualifications to do what I want when I leave.

During Primary school we had to have a music lesson, learning Recorder. Because I was very
into music I took to this very well and gained two Distinctions in my two exams. As an extra
lesson we had the choice to learn Violin. I took the lessons and gained a Merit in my exam. I
also performed in the Primary Schools concert, which included a Recorder solo. In High
school I took Performing Arts Double award, this meant I took it over two years, achieving
an overall B. Within this I directed, acted, danced and sung. Because I was so interested in
Performing Arts and singing, my singer teacher gave me the lead role in a half an hour long
musical at the Lowry.

These experiences gave me confidence in performing and also speaking my mind, if I felt like
something needed changing or I had an opinion something, I was able to point it out. Being
involved in music and performance showed me that I am comfortable with working in the
industry and that I have experience in the off stage and on stage.
