1. Prevention Team Meeting Minutes— August 22, 2014: 3:00-4:15
Present: Marina, Ashley, Lindy, Doreen, June, Dottie, Aaron, Karen, Krystle
I. Personal Check In
I.V. Ashley is now the Pomona Unified School District Prevention Educator. This means you might have two prevention
supervisors depending on what cities you are working in. Ashley is working on setting up “Young Men’s” and “Young
Women’s” Circles at four Pomona High Schools and will be seeking volunteer assistance with these as well as other
presentations.
II. Prevention Check In
Bullying Presentations
a. Create a letter of expectations to give to teachers.
Include: Marina’s cell number, the fact that we need a white board, our ground rules, a discipline plan, an
outline of the curriculum for the day(s), and an offer to meet.
b. Create and laminate a Ground Rules Sheet
Long-term curriculum
a. Health at Boys Republic High School (Chino Hills) – Krystle and Taylor
b. Sisterhood at Montclair High School –Aug-Jan – Marina and Kim H.
c. Freshmen at Montclair High School – Aug-Jan – Marina and Aaron
d. English at San Antonio High School (Claremont) –Sept-Dec – Marina and Krystle
e. Peer Counselors at Garey High School – Ashley and ??
f. Many more in the works. Ashley and I are seeking mentors who can help with weekly presentations.
Presentations
a. New PowerPoint for DV 101!
b. House of Ruth is now interested in focusing on providing presentations to Police and Hospitals. If you
have any contacts and are willing to do outreach please contact Marina.
Fairs
a. Marina will create a “Fair” form which has a space for how many attended, how many brochures, hotline
cards, and any community contacts or information.
Volunteer Professionalism
a. Continue to refer Pomona Outreach and H of R Hotline #’s
b. Pass out Marina’s business cards
c. Work on being at location on time
d. Dress Code: no shorts.
III. Hospitals
For Hospital outreach the following volunteers have offered to help :
a. June – Kaiser Fontana Karen : will let me know
IV. PSASa
. Krystle making PSAs. Needs people who are willing to be on camera for a video about statistics on September
8th from 4-5pm. For survivors who are willing to give their testimony she will film the same day from 1pm-4pm. This
will take place at House of Ruth Pomona.
V. Volunteer Prevention Training
a. Volunteers must first shadow at a presentation, then co-present, before independently presenting.
News and Events
a) “Craft Beer for a Cause” at Dale Bros. Brewery Sept. 10th -House of Ruth Fundraiser. 5pm-9pm. Bring friends!
b) House of Ruth Gala Fundraiser October 11th. Will need volunteers. Info TBD.
