Daniel is interested in pursuing further education in media studies to improve his skills and make industry connections. He enjoyed his secondary education in applied business and media studies, finding the subjects creatively fulfilling. Daniel aims to develop his graphic design and advertising abilities while networking with other students and staff at university. After graduating, he hopes to start his own entrepreneurial ventures utilizing social media platforms like YouTube and Instagram or pursue a career in graphic design or advertising.

Personal statement
University does 2 primary things for students. Improving their ability, and opening connections. And I w ould like to get both froma university that I w ould
like to go to. Improving me techniques w ould be the main criteria w hich incentivises me to approach a university. Being show n different ways to create
and advertise products is incentivising for me to look for a good university.
The other reason I w ould look for a university is to make connections with other students and staff at the university, this is too finding other people w ho
are aiming to take the same graphic design/ advertising route as me. This can improve my quality of w orkas it w illallow me to w orkas a team and not
just by myself.
My years in secondary schoolallow ed me to take applied business as one of my chosen subjects. Ihad a fantastic teacher who inspired me to delve
deeper into the subject. And I continued the course into my first year at college.
Last year at college I began leaning Media studies. From not picking up any media program or understanding of the subject the year before, to having an
established understanding in a media perspective. Ienjoy the creative opportunities that media studies offersto me. How I can create anything I w ant on
photoshop for example. I really enjoyed the time I spent on my Final project last year before it got cancelled. It opened my eyes into the possibilities that
media studies as a subject and create for me, in a creative light.
Café w ork/food hygiene – Working a job I got paid for taught me discipline and w orking in a team, as w ellas customer relations fromthe employee side
of the business. I have alw ayshad good customer service because I've never been afraid to talk to people. I also received a distinction in speaking w hile
in secondary school. Displaying that I'm not afraid to talk to others in any situation.
Media studies level 2 – studying media studies has been an eye-opening experience for me. Ive learned a lot over the past year and its continued to
inspire me to think out of the box in a creative manner. I w ant to continue and progress my experience to a university course. Iaim to go into social
media and private entrepreneurship, on a platform like YouTube. This w ould help w ith video editing. How ever, Ihave also looked at taking a more
graphicalapproach to media studies, in an area like advertising. Last year I covered a range of subjects in media, from new spapersto music videos.
And fromthe different subjects Ifeelmost comfortable in graphic design. Like logo design, or advertising.
I w ant to adventure into a few different markets, which allconsist of media w ork:
YouTube – YouTube is a big stretch w hen it comes to developing a product that people w ant to w atch. How ever, Ihave w atched YouTube for a long
time, and I w ould like to create content w hich Ithink w illbe interesting. This w ould be helpfulto use some new techniques that I can learn in the next
year of college and a few years at university.
Instagram. social media advertising: advertising on socialmedia has been on the rise as of late, and using my media project skills, I can target adds
correctly to customers.
Logo/Brand aw areness: Media has a large impact on creating a brand look. The w ay you colour and texture your businesscan really impact the w ay
customers view yourproducts. And Media has opened my eyes to the different possibilities in logo creation.
University – going to university for continuing my media course is also a good option for me. It w illexpose me to different techniques and ideas w hich I
otherw ise wouldn’t have accessto outside of a university. A university also gives me the opportunity to connect w ith people w ho can further my future.
Connecting me to people in other areas w hich might be usefulfor me.
Private/ partnered entrepreneur - Private or partnered entrepreneur in subjects like graphic design or advertisement is also another route I can take. This
w ould be something I pursue after university or college once I have a greater and rooted understanding of media as a subject.
Outside of college, I'm interested in 3 subjects:
1 - Café/front-of-house. This includes things like communication w ith customers and creating and inviting and comfortable environment for customers.
Looking into w hat works with customers outlookon a café/businessand w hat doesn’t.

2. 2 – YouTube and socialmedia. Grow ing up in the age of computers and the development of socialmedia exposed me to the impact it had on my
generation and the generation before. As w ellas this, I have a young half-brother who is growing up in the post computer age, and it's interesting to
understand w hat impact it has on younger generations.
3 – Sw edish. Ispent my mid-teen era grow ing up in contact w ith people of similar age, but w ho lived in Sw eden rather than the UK. It provided a
separate opinion of political and culturalsubjects w hich Iotherw ise wouldn’t have access to if I only knew people from the UK. I also spent a part of my
life learning the language as it inspired me to take another perspective on these said subjects in their native language. It w as also interesting to be semi-
bilingual. Learning the language might also provide me w ith some opportunities in Sw eden itself.
Further education w illhow ever open connectionsfor me. The different people I meet in a university w illall have different subjectsthat they are
specialised in. It's good to understand w hat each personis appreciate w hat each person can bring to me as a connection, on a business and personal
level.
Having a university degree w illjustify my w orkbecause if I can get a degree in a Media subject, then I w illlook more professional. My w orkwillotherwise
look second class and unprofessionalcompared to someone else w ith a degree in media.
I w illenjoy further studies, because there are plenty of subjects within media w hich inspire me. Continuing my media understanding w illdevelop me as a
person on how I look at Media as a w hole. And furthering my learning w illhelp me to build my understanding of w hat Iw ant to do after I finished my
course. Finding new techniques and outlooks is another reason w hy people go to university, and an encouraging reason for me.
