1. Media Treatment
Section 1
For our A2 media coursework, we will be constructing a short, five minute film, the intended
audience will be the teenage age group, who are on their own for whatever reason. The
purpose will be to make the audience question whether the life they lead is right for them,
and how their thoughts and psyche haunt them when they are alone. It could also connote a
meaning of regret as to what some of the audience have done in the past.
Section 2
The film revolves around one main character, and one person whom he is afraid of. The film
sees the character sitting in his room playing some music. It is at this time when he decides
to go for a walk. At the point when the character is alone, he is confronted by a concealed
person. After believing to have left this person behind the character continues on his way
home, however the concealed person continues to follow him and he starts to panic and
run, until at the very end of the film he is left with no choice but to face who he is running
from. The film is in a slightly run-down neighbourhood/ area, to make it more relatable to
the majority of teenagers living in England. The film is at night, to signify the dark psyche of
the character. The film will utilise common horror/ psychological thriller conventions with
regards to the soundtrack, using dark strings and horns to convey a dark mood. However,
the film may be seen to slide into the drama genre.
Section 3
About a girl is a film that is fairly similarly linked with our short film, as it makes the viewer
question how they feel about the situation of the character, our film will give a new
approach however as the emotion of fear will be utilised, however the character “Mark”
must find out why he is so afraid, and what has caused this situation he finds himself in,
where he is being pursued by a seemingly anonymous attacker. As previously stated we will
use some well known horror/thriller conventions for the soundtrack, this will let the viewer
reaffirm their knowledge with regards to what genre the film is, and help them to
understand why the emotion of suspense and fear Is being created.
Section 4
Connor Barclay and Damien Johnson will be working on the project, we will be directing,
writing editing and filming, we will distribute the workload evenly between us in order to
more effectively take into account each others input when working. The film will be centred
on one character, named “Connor”, who will be played by Connor Barclay. The audience will
also see one additional character, which will be played by Charlie Hawkins.

2. Section 5
The project will be low budget and self funded primarily, with Ravens Wood School
providing some filming equipment, the only costs will be the costume of the anonymous
character who will be wearing an inexpensive face mask to hide his identity. The overall
time frame will be approximately one month, for writing, filming and finally editing, with
each component taking just over one week to complete.
