FINAL PLOT
1.
2. THE SPECTOR
The title of our film was not our original title as initially we
chose ‘bystander’. After feedback from our target audience
we discovered that people believed the name bystander
did not stand out enough. A bystander is usually known as
somebody who merely watches a crime or a scene and
does not intervene however our films plot is the complete
opposite to that. When thinking about new possible titles
for our film we discovered other words that had similar
meanings. ‘The spector’ is a more prominent and powerful
title, by placing ‘the’ at the beginning of it creates a more
memorable and defining title.
3. KEY CHARACTERS
ANTAGONIST
The Spector – A supernatural being who is angered when
four friends decide to intrude in its woods after dark.
PROTAGONIST
Sophie – One of the four friends and the only one who
escapes
Kate – Olly’s girlfriend
Lucy – One of the four friends
Olly – Kate’s boyfriend who plays tricks on the other three
as a joke
Policeman – Enters the film at the very end and tries hard to
comfort Sophie in the station
4. NARRATIVE STRUCTURE
1. Four friends take a trip to the woods to celebrate one of their birthdays.
2. When arriving everything seems fun and exciting yet three of them start to
find the fourth friend (Olly) slightly tedious as his bad humoured jokes
start to annoy them.
3. The woods darken and Olly and his girlfriend row over his jokes as he
begins to scare her too much.
4. Olly’s girlfriend storms off into the dark woods and after a while the other
three friends begin to worry. Too much time passes and they all decide to
go and look for her.
5. One by one the friends get gruesomely picked off by ‘The Spector’ who is
angry about them trespassing in its woods after dark. The Spector is a
supernatural being who plays with the friends fears by hunting them down.
6. The film moves on as we witness the deaths of three friends however one
manages to escape and finds the nearest police station outside the
woods.
7. The audience will start to believe the panic is over until there is a shot of
the girl sitting in the station thinking about the recent occurrences. She
then looks over to a window and see’s a figure which is that of The
Spector’s. This shot leaves possibilities open for a sequel.
5. Setting
We chose base in the film in the forest Horsenden hills.
We did this because the looming idea of isolation is
chilling. In addition to this we got a lot of inspiration from
the film the Blaire Witch project which too is set in
wooded area. The film features students who similarly in
our film get attacked by a supernatural being. This means
that when the Spector began to peruse or characters they
wouldn’t be able to ask for help, nor escape as all of the
characters would get split up. The Idea of being in the
woods alone with ‘the Spector’ coming for you would be a
chilling experience for anyone meaning our target
audience can relate and feel empathy for the characters
that are getting victimised.
6. Genre
The genre of our film is supernatural horror. We
chose to make it a supernatural horror because
this is what were most interested in. The other
reason for this is as the Spector isn't human
technically the audience only have to see the
affects that the Spector causes and maybe
shadows or unrecognisable figures. For
practical reasons this suits the capability of our
skills as film makers.
7. Style/inspiration
As I said before we got a lot of our inspiration from
the ‘the Blaire Witch Project’ this is because the
style in witch its made. Predominantly this film is
made handheld. The positives of this is the fact that
the shaky nature of a hand held camera translates
the mood of the film. The protagonists will
represent how scared they are through the lenses
of the camera. In addition to this its more practical
because of our skills as film makers. However we
plan to use some techniques to translate how
isolated the characters are, such as a pan of the
woods etc.
8. Casting
• We have quite a small cast. We decided to do this
so that in the trailer the audience could enter
into a relationship with the cast before they have
even seen the film. Feeling empathy for the
characters will engage the audience even more
and promt them to see the film making it more
popular. We decided to change some of the
names such as Erin Machell, and Melina Namdar,
this is because names like this don’t really
conform to normal Billboard films. We wanted
our film to conform completely and keep is
professional as possible.
