1. Question 1 - In what ways does our
media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
2. A plot was established using deprived areas as a setting for
most of the film, this would be suggestive of the fact that
they have come from deprived areas and have had a poor
upbringing. (picture examples shown) This combined with
clothing items and slang styled mannerisms indicate this
difficult upbringing and encourages sympathy for the two
characters. This plot was further developed as the end of
the credits the film cuts to black, providing sparse details on
what happened, leaving the story ending up for self-
interpretation on the part of the audience. The ambiguity is
good as it provides more depth and can engross audiences
more in the story. The opening shots of the area around the
characters are typical of crime films of earlier years, films
like the Italian Job (2003 reboot) as the film starts off with a
series of establishing shots that convey the nature of
location, motive and character development. We tried to
echo these elements within our film using similar ideas of
establishing shots albeit on a smaller scale. We used these
shots to further emphasise the more deprived location we
used for filming and to give the audience a way to visualise
the characters upbringings without having to explain them
through backstory methods as this would take more time to
develop.
3. The clear majority of camera angles that were used were
medium level shots (Examples shown), we decided to use
this to connote that the two are still very human and not
criminals at heart despite rough starts in life. The editing in
the film stays smooth throughout the start to connote a
casual laid back nature of the friendship between the two,
however pace picks up during the final scenes to
emphasise the shift and lack of power as the police move in
on them. Sound is used at the start to imply the building
tension before the events that occur later. The music is
mysterious and dark which reflects the persona of Flash
and suggests him to be the leader of the two. At the end of
the credits the sudden drop to silence followed by the cell
doors closing adds a dramatic effect to the ending that
makes it more iconic to the clip, meaning it will stick to the
minds of our audience as it is an important scene for setting
up later story events. Costumes were chosen to reflect the
individual styles of the characters as inferno has a red coat,
reflecting his name and more direct, calculated persona
shown later in the opening credits, while Flash dresses
much more monotone reflecting a darker personality which
shows him to be the more relatable person to our target
audience as they would identify more with that style of
character.
