4. I love commenting on various sites in my own time – do the department’s
rules apply to me when I am not at work?
5. What happens if I see something online that concerns a student’s safety,
health or welfare, such as a student threatening self-harm or discussing
inappropriate or illegal behaviour?

grooming)

13. • Flaming: Angry, rude, arguments.
• Harassment: Repeatedly sending offensive messages.
• Denigration: “Dissing” someone online by spreading
rumors or posting false information.
• Outing and trickery: Disseminating intimate private
information or talking someone into disclosing private
information, which is then disseminated.
• Impersonation: Pretending to be someone else and
posting material to damage that
• person’s reputation.
• Exclusion: Intentionally excluding someone from an
online group.
• Cyberstalking: Creating fear by repeatedly sending
offensive messages and engaging in online activities.
14. Ethical scenarios
• There are 5 scenarios in the week 7 folder.
Form your selves into 5 groups- you will be
nominated one scenario.
• Discuss this and then report back to the class.
15. • Of secondary students interviewed:
• “43.7% said they had told nobody.
• The 56.3% who had told comprised those who
told friends (26.8%),
• followed by parents/ guardians (15.5%),
• and more rarely a class teacher or another
adult at school (each 8.5%),
• or somebody else (1.4%)”
(Smith, Mahdavi, Carvalho, Fisher, Russell, & Tippett, 2008, p. 382).

you to consider whilst on PE. These will
inform part of our discussion for the week 9
tutorial so please come prepared to that
ready to discuss items set out.

the use of ICT in today’s society?
• If so, what are they?
• What do we lose with the continuing advent
of ICT- does it matter?
• How do manage these as teachers for our
students?
• How do we manage these for ourselves as
individuals?
