2. Drop Drugs- Set yourself Free
The week in which it was implemented:
26th September to 1st October 2011
1) FEEL
Our problem was not unique but the whole world is in
the trap - Drug Abuse.
With an estimate about 75 millioneffectedby it in
India, Substance Abuse is skyrocketing in today’s world
and majorly among Generation-X. The students of
young age are experimenting with their temptation to
substance like alcohol, cigarettes, heroin etc. hence
becoming ‘’Addicts’’.
2) Imagine
First we had to build up the motto ‘‘Donot let yourself
controlled by Drugs’’. The students embarked on the
mission to spread awareness and sensitize community
towards the issue among common folk. The method
3. adopted using brainstorming sessions, debates, collage
making, slogan writing competitions, interviews and
nukkad skits about the effects of drugs and how to get
ridof it by building a support system.
3) DO
To bring change in the society first we tried to figure
out more practical solutions to stop this exponential
growth of drug addiction. Students like Apoorva Malik
and Neha Aggarwal carried out surveys and held
discussions to obtain a statistical data on how many
teens have tried drugs, how many are into drugs
completely, factors which predisposes teens to get into
addiction and how many have successfully get rid out of
it. Then we had to get our boots on the ground, visited
door to door and spread out awareness among the
common folks by showcasing nukkad playsin neighboring
societies, a street play at National Forumand also at
school assembly. Activities like Slogan writing
competition, Poster designing etc. led to increase
4. awareness among students. We also visited Drug de-
addiction center which is run by Vinayak Foundation
and conducted interview and spent time with them in
order to comprehend their problems. Data collected
was transformed into presentation with the help of
students like Akhilesh, Priyam and Cherubthrough
which the data collected and ideas generated so far
could discussed in school workshops by our mentor
teacher Ms. Mamta Miglani. The objective was to
debateon the subject to reach a unanimous consensus
and successfully achieved.
Thus by all this we took a step forward towards
achieving the goal ‘’Drop Drugs- Set yourself Free’’and
made a change by influencing 35-40 people.
