2. OBJECTIVES
•DISCUSS THE DIFFERENT GEOLOGICAL HAZARDS
•ANALYZE THE CAUSES OF GEOLOGICAL HAZARDS
•RECOGNIZE SIGNS OF IMPENDING GEOLOGICAL
HAZARD
3. GEOLOGIC EVENT/GEOLOGIC HAZARD
• Extreme Natural Event in the crust of the earth that pose a
threat to life and property.
• With the present state of technology, most geologic events
cannot be prevented or even predicted with any precision.
•Earthquake
5. EARTHQUAKE
•A sudden and violent shaking of the
ground, sometimes causing great
destruction, as a result of movement within
the earth’s crust or volcanic action.

7. VOLCANIC ERUPTION
• Volcanoes erupt when molten rock called magma rises to the
surface. Magma is formed when the earth’s mantle melts.
Melting may happen where tectonic plates are pulling apart or
where one plate is pushed down under another. Magma is
lighter than rock so rises towards the Earth’s surface.
8. HAZARDS
•Tephra falls and ballistic projectiles
•Pyroclastic phenomena
•Lahars (mud flows) and floods
•Lava flows and domes
•Poisonous gases
