• The hanging as a form of punishment in England began in the fifth
century.
• Around 72.000 people were executed by different methods such
as hanging , bonfire or decapitation.
• In 19th century, the death penalty was removed for thieves and
minor criminals.
4. CHILDREN
• The children were also executed.
• Executions were made in prison.
• Young people under 18 were executed only until 1908.
5. FLEET PRISON
• It was situated in London on the banks of the river Fleet
• The Fleet Prison was built in 1197 and it was demolished
in 1846.
• Prisoners had to pay their food and accommodation.
6. MARSHALSEA
• It was situated on the south of London and it worked until 1842.
• It was a town that was in the suburs of the city.
• It was an area frequented by criminals.
• It was opened in 1729 and it could keep around 300 criminals.
