Personal Profile
I am an enthusiastic and personable individual, wishing to apply skills and
experience that I have gained over the previous five years into a new role. Having
completed my apprenticeship in May 2016 and recently gaining my HND in
Engineering Systems I look to further my progress and knowledge in Engineering.
Work Experience

NHS Lothian Roodlands – Maintenance Engineer
I am currently a Maintenance Engineer with NHS Lothian
based at Roodlands Hospital, Haddington. The main aspect of
my job is maintaining heating systems, including steam
systems around the various sites that are managed by the
maintenance team at Roodlands. Having use of the Building
Management System I am able to monitor plant machinery
and make changes where necessary, and applying Planned
Preventative Maintenance (PPM’S) to minimise the possibility
of a failure on the equipment/machinery on the heating and hot
water systems.
NHS Lothian – Apprentice Engineer
During my time as an apprentice with the NHS, part of my
training included moving between sites every 6/12 months to
gain an understanding of different systems and how they
operate on the other sites. Sites I visited during my time were,
Royal Hospital for Sick Kids, Western General Hospital, Royal
Edinburgh Hospital and Roodlands Hospital. At each site I
worked under different tradesmen and was able to gain an
understanding of how each individual carried out their
maintenance in comparison to others.

Skills and Achievements
Interpersonal skills - Strong interpersonal skills with staff, colleagues and
managers have been improved, especially since working with the NHS. Having to
work around a hospital requires being able to gain access to certain areas, such as
when the best time is to have a shutdown on the heating side or hot water system
to minimise disruption to staff and patients.
Customer service - My ability to deal with the public has been developed over the
years, especially within the hospital when they are needing help within ward areas
or if it’s the patients themselves requiring attention from a nurse.
Working to timescales - Working in the NHS means the priority is with the staff
and patients, therefore when it comes to shut downs making sure that proper
planning is in place means that the job to be done, is done so efficiently and
effectively with the least disturbance to the patients and staff.
Timekeeping - Having worked for 5 years, my greatest traits are my punctuality
and attendance, which has been consistent throughout.
3. Certificates
- Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering Maintenance (Mechanical)
- Cochran: Boiler Operation, Maintenance and Safety Awareness]
- Level 2 Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces (City & Guilds - June 2018)

Hobbies and Interests
I have a strong interest in football where I play in a 5s league every Wednesday and
also have a keen interest in golf and have been a member at a club for 6 years. I
am also a member of a gym as keeping fit and healthy is important to me. I
completed my second Tough Mudder event in June 2018 which I hope to continue
to repeat for years to come.
