BriskHeat Corporation, a global manufacturer of surface
heaters, insulators and temperature controls, is investing
nearly $1.5 million to consolidate its Columbus Region
locations into one facility and add more than 100 jobs to its
existing 266-employee workforce over the next three
years. Hiring for the new jobs, including manufacturing and
assembly positions, will begin first quarter 2015.

Superior Die Tool & Machine Company, a die, machining
and metal stamping manufacturer for the automotive and
heavy truck industry, is expanding at its South Side
includes building improvements and new machinery and
equipment including four new stamping presses. The
company also plans to add 35 new production positions
over the next three years as it seeks to grow its market
share.

Columbus regional employment strong into 2015
The Columbus Region employment outlook looks strong
for 2015 as unemployment rates fell to 4.0 percent in the
fourth quarter of 2014, well below state and national rates
of 4.8 and 5.8 percent respectively. During the fourth
quarter the Region added 12,300 jobs and grew 1.3 percent,
bringing 2014 overall growth to 0.8 percent.

Rickenbacker named a top 10 inland port to watch
Rickenbacker Inland Port is served by Norfolk Southern and
CSX rail and offers provides rail access to both East and
West Coast ocean ports. Area Development estimates
Rickenbacker has the capacity to grow to 70 million square
feet of industrial space.

Columbus only Ohio metro to add jobs in advanced
industries
In a recent Brookings Institution report, Columbus is the
only Ohio metro to add employment in advanced industries
where R&D spending is $450 or more per worker. In 2013,
the Columbus metro had 81,300 jobs in the sector,
representing 8.1 percent of employment and $13.2 billion in
economic output.

Transportation budget passes Ohio House
The Ohio House of Representatives unanimously
53. The bill provides more than $3.4 billion funding
annually over the next two years toward
transportation infrastructure and safety services. In
addition to over $5 billion in appropriations for
highway construction and maintenance, other
provisions include the creation of a Joint Legislative
Task Force on Ohio Department of Transportation
funding and an additional $114 million over two
years for local transportation projects that can help
House Bill 53 is now in the Ohio Senate for
consideration; if passed the transportation budget
must be signed into law by March 31.

New nonstop flights from Port Columbus
International Airport
Beginning August 9, Southwest Airlines will offer
daily nonstop flights to the San Francisco Bay Area
via Oakland and two additional nonstop flights to
Boston. The Bay Area was the largest destination not
served by a nonstop flight from Port Columbus. A
direct flight to the Bay Area was the No. 1 goal of the
Columbus Regional Airport Authority and the Jobs
Expansion and Transportation Taskforce because of
significant economic benefits. Those benefits could
be as much as $20 million annually for the Columbus
Region according to a report by the taskforce.
Southwest has also recently announced expanded
services to Dallas Love Field and Ronald Regan
Washington National beginning April 8. An additional
daily flight to Atlanta will also be added.
