This presentation will focus on the importance of using media and technology to develop relationships with students through instructional practices and creative assignments that connect to our diverse student populations: culture, race, region, gender, experiences, and socioeconomics. Acknowledging who our students are and what works best with and for them helps to address value and motivation. We can not only SURVIVE, BUT EXCEL.
12. When you are unsuccessful with your current
practices, or deck, you must introduce
something new: Either New Cards or a New
Deck
13. THE POWER THAT LIES BETWEEN THESE TWO
DECKS IS RISK THAT WE MUST BE WILLING TO
TAKE. IT’S A GAMBLE FOR ALL EDUCATORS.
14. BY USING OUR POWER OF CHOICE WE
ALLOW OURSELVES TO STOP SHUFFLING
THE DECK OF COMFORTS AND TAKE THE
RISK TO SHIFT TOWARDS THE CARDS
AND/OR THE DECK OF CHALLENGES
15. In order to survive 2020,
we had to redefine the
“how” of instruction.
16. The use of media and technology allows us to
develop relationships with students through the
use of instructional tools that permits unique
and creative student practice and performance
that connects to our diverse student
populations.
17. Acknowledging who our students are and
what works best with and for them helps
to address, value, and motivate
ACHIEVEMENT.
18. We typically think of technology as an
effective way to enhance excellence in
education, to support curriculum
requirements, to help students learn, and to
foster the quality of education.
19. Learning technology is also a useful tool to
help teachers meet diverse students
populations: male and female; gender
identity; physical abilities; cognitive abilities;
intellectual abilities; learning styles; &
cultural backgrounds.
21. Educators are no longer limited to pen and paper, simple white boards, or
overhead projectors. The power of technology allow students to justify
and explain their thinking through a variety and diverse set of pictures,
diagrams, videos, animations, audio recordings, and other imaginative
ways. Our job is to find the best means of optimizing learning
opportunities for students using the technological resources available.
23. Today’s culture of students are growing up in a digital age and we
should take advantage of technology, rather than viewing it as a
distraction. To make sure that students are getting the most out of
every lesson, the content should be presented in a clear way that has
immediate value for students. Technology allows for collaboration
among students and self-directed learning.
25. Research and various studies have shown that using multimedia in the classroom
increases creativity, innovation, problem solving, and improves communication between
students. Technology effectively shrinks the world by sharing knowledge and
experiences. Technology can simulate real-life environments and promote learning by
doing. Technology can address equity issues through provisions individualized
instruction and offers the possibility of making abstract subject matter more
concrete. The internet and technology opens the world and beyond.
27. Current data and authentic learning opportunities can be brought into the
classroom through the Internet, changing where and how students learn.
Students can access current information via databases, that accesses
images, files, and history. technology will create an environment that
fosters student learning and self-esteem, but empowers educators to go
beyond traditional boundaries.
29. Technology, either with or without you,
communicates to students through contexts in ways
that make personal connections with who students
are, what they value, and how they see the world.
