The document discusses the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in education, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. It notes that ICT tools helped enable continued teaching and learning when schools and colleges closed due to lockdowns. ICT is presented as a bridge that can help education continue remotely. Examples of ICT applications that can benefit education include interactive whiteboards, e-readers, flipped classrooms, educational apps, and online learning platforms. When teachers are trained to use ICT strategically, it is argued that students can develop higher-order thinking skills and be better prepared for a technology-focused society and workplace.

Use of ICT in Education
2. All the world is facing pandemic situation. The
present COVID pandemic has
significantly disrupted the education sector.
Due to lockdown, all schools, colleges got closed
and teaching learning process stopped. But ICT
tools come to help teachers and students.
ICT appears as a ‘bridge’ to break the distance
and ‘survive’ the teaching learning process.
3. Technology in Education
Technology is important because it is a part of our
life. It makes our work fast, can make our lives
easier.
Technology can be a ‘force multiplier’ for the
teachers.
Education doesn’t stop towards the finish of the
school/college day.
Students can access teachers, resources and
assignments via the web whenever and wherever
they need.
4. Technology often helps bridge the productivity
gap between home and school.
Many colleges and universities in India are
integrating online learning management platform
into their web portal.
Students can remotely login to access course
material and also attend live classes, pre
recorded lectures, videos can be uploaded.
5. what is ICT?
When we talk about ICT we are referring
to information and communication
technologies.
If we had to define the term, “a set of techniques
and devices based on new technological
tools and the different supports and channels of
information and communication”.
the process of obtaining, storing, processing and
transmitting information digitally.
6. The notable increase in the social use of ICTs
and their enormous impact is an aspect
that cannot go unnoticed in the world of
education.
ICT is already becoming a fundamental tool for
teachers and students in the classroom.
It has been proven that the use of ICT in the
classroom increases the motivation of the
students, showing more interest and becoming
more involved in the areas they study.
7. ICT has also become integral to the teaching-
learning interaction, through such approaches as
replacing chalkboards with interactive digital
whiteboards, using students’ own smartphones or
other devices for learning during class time.
The “flipped classroom” model where students
watch lectures at home on the computer and use
classroom time for more interactive exercises.
8. When teachers are digitally literate and trained to
use ICT, these approaches can lead to higher
order thinking skills, provide creative and
individualized options for students to express
their understandings,
and leave students better prepared to deal with
ongoing technological change in society and the
workplace.
9. Educational applications of ICT
include:
Interactive White Boards or Smart Boards: Interactive
white boards allow projected computer images to be
displayed, manipulated, dragged, clicked, or copied.
Simultaneously, handwritten notes can be taken on
the board and saved for later use.
E-readers: E-readers are electronic devices that can
hold hundreds of books in digital form, and they are
increasingly utilized in the delivery of reading material.
Flipped Classrooms: The flipped classroom model,
involving lecture and practice at home via computer-
guided instruction and interactive learning activities in
class, can allow for an expanded curriculum.
10. Use of apps: Different apps nowadays are used for
online education. These apps are helpful for students
and teachers to reach. Such type of apps are also
used for meetings, online teaching learning process.
Eg. Zoom, Google meet, Wise aap, Webex etc.
Platforms for online education: There are different
platforms available for online education. Through
theses platforms, online classes can be taken, videos
can be uploaded, recorded videos can be send. So
these platforms are helpful to the students as well as
teachers. Eg. Swayam, Webex, Impartus etc
