1. OCTOBER 2014
New Chamber Intern
We would like to introduce you to our new Manchester University intern at the Chamber of Commerce for this fall. Chloe Webber, a business management major with minors in sales and psychology, was awarded the $2,500 Non-Profit Organization Intern Experience Award through Manchester University’s Office of Career Services. This was made possible by a grant that was given to Manchester University by the Eli Lilly Foundation. Chloe will be working 250 hours this fall and will be organizing and advertising for the Chamber’s variety of fall and winter events. She is originally from Valparaiso, Indiana. She is an avid Zumba® goer and teaches a class each week at Manchester University. In May of 2015, Chloe will be graduating and plans to move to South Carolina. She can’t wait to get started planning for North Manchester’s Harvest Festival!
Update: Wine and Beer Tasting
Hopefully you enjoyed Manchester Tourism’s Wine and Beer Tasting event at Sycamore Golf Clubhouse! Over forty people were in attendance at this fantastic evening full of fellowship and delicious food and drink samples. An impressive count of 25 beers were provided for the event. Liquid Assets needs a special mention for providing wine samples from an assortment of wines available for purchase at their local outlet. A wonderful assortment of beautifully designed food was provided by Kathy Sandow, owner/manager of Sycamore Golf. Thank you to the following sponsors: Sycamore Golf, Liquid Assets (Jill Hershberger and staff), San Guilio (Bill D-Andres), Manchester Tourism (chair: Bernie Ferringer; members: Brandy Weaver, Marsha Croner, Kathy Sandow, Alexis Young, and Dawn Reed), and North Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
2. New Chamber Members
Junior Achievement, Featured Business
Dan Naragon, contact of Junior Achievement in Fort Wayne, showed a great enthusiasm for joining the North Manchester Chamber. They joined primarily to increase their exposure and business promotion. “It’s a great networking opportunity for Junior Achievement!” Dan also mentioned the discount that he receives from his insurance company for joining the Chamber. So, what does Junior Achievement (JA) do? JA educates students in kindergarten through seniors in high school about business and financial responsibility. It’s usually a 6-7 week process where a parent or business volunteers to teach a class about finances. Manchester Community Schools has partnered with JA to create a learning environment that allows students to have knowledge of money in the real world. “This is incredible because the program touches 1400 students just in Manchester.” Contact Dan at 260-982-9500 for more information.
Casey’s General Store, Featured Business
Sherry Span, contact of Casey’s General Store in North Manchester, expressed her interest in being a member of the chamber. This establishment has been in North Manchester since December of 2011. Casey’s is a one-stop shop for almost all of your needs! It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This includes their kitchen, where donuts are made fresh every single day. You can order breakfast, lunch, or dinner foods at any time during the day and the food will be made fresh for you. There are pre-made foods in warmers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that allow for grab-and-go lunches as well. Make sure to stop into our local Casey’s General Store today at 810 W. Main St., North Manchester, IN 46962 or call 260-982-0111!
3. Woodspoint Condominium Association, Featured Business
Jim Smith, President of Woodspoint Association, explained that the first condominiums at Woodspoint were constructed in 1978. Subsequently, two more phases were added-- one in 1984 and the last in 1986. Woodspoint consists of 32 condominiums in sixteen buildings and one clubhouse. Their vision and mission is to provide a quality housing environment and accompanying amenities without the hassle of snow removal, mowing, maintaining landscaping, maintaining the outside of a home, etc. Jim Smith stated, “Woodspoint has undergone a transformation over the last two years, primarily due to the devastating loss of 61 trees, most of them 30 years old. We received a substantial settlement from DuPont due to their herbicide killing those trees and we've been able to upgrade their environment substantially. Our grounds are more attractive and their buildings are more upgraded than ever.” If you are interested in checking out their real estate, visit their office at 7 Woodspoint Circle, North Manchester, IN 46962 or call 260- 982-8691. Lastly, they joined the Chamber primarily because of a discount offered by their insurance company (check out northmanchesterchamber.com for more information on joining the NM Chamber).
Penny French-Deal, Featured Artist
Penny French-Deal is the Chamber's featured artist. She grew up in Wabash County, hence why many of her pieces are rural landscapes. Of her 300+ paintings from the last 8 years, one of her favorite paintings is “Rumbling Storm.” It’s a complex piece to create, but looks simple on the medium. She has been enjoying art since she can remember. When Penny studied at the Fort Wayne Art Institute, she focused on figure drawing. With studying in mind, Penny loves to travel to other artists’ workshops to learn more about their style. Her style is expressed in her studio in North Manchester and her gallery in Roanoke where she sells her art. Impressively, Penny has exhibited artwork in galleries in the US and Europe! She expressed how incredible the journey she has taken with art has been, from a strong passion to learning more each and every day to meeting wonderful people throughout the world. Make sure to check out her website at http://french-deal.com/. On the website, you will have an opportunity to view her latest works, sign up for a newsletter, and read a little more about Penny French-Deal.
