Welcome to your Fall Adventure!
As children are heading back to school, the daylight hours are wan-
ing, leaves are becoming crisp and falling; our minds too, are in need
of a revival. The changing of a season can spark inspiration to try
something new, learn a new skill or hobby or brush up on things once
learned long ago. Take this opportunity to participate in the Wood &
Burlap wreath class, learn about how to preserve precious energy and
money by take the Saving Energy 101 class, and have some by taking
a day trip or be really adventurous by going on an overseas trip .
Perhaps you would like to learn about essential oils and how they can

Fun 90 minute video chat covering some of the many details of the voiceover industry. Perform
a real script and receive a professional voice evaluation after class. Discover if voice acting is
something you'd like to pursue. Taught by a professional voice actor from Voices For All. This
class takes place between an instructor and student at a mutually agreed upon time, using video
chat technology, such as Skype, iChat and FaceTime. Once the student has registered they will

Make the stars your old friends as we watch the great celestial show in the skies over
greater Austin. This night with the stars, constellations, planets, star clusters, nebu-
lae and more starts off with an indoor orientation followed by quality time outside
under the heavens. Get to know the constellations like The Big Bear, Cygnus the
Swan, Pegasus the Winged Horse and some of their great stories behind them. We'll
also use large reflecting telescopes, including two giant 20 inch reflectors that are
among the biggest mobile telescopes in Minnesota for close up views of star clusters,

vested and ready for you to build a twig chair, a slab garden bench, or a coffee,
sofa, or end table. Lunch is included and prepared in the farm's commercial
kitchen from locally grown food. Amaze yourself! Create a beautiful, fan
backed bent willow chair in one weekend. We will help you select and cut the
saplings for the frame of your chair and assemble it during the first day of your

Youth Paint and Make Studio-Krystal Lennie $20 per session

Youth Paint and Make Studio will make painting fun and easy. You will be
guided step-by-step through recreating an 11x14 acrylic painting that you will
be able to take home at the end of class and hang on the wall. Parents can stay
and paint their own canvas, just make sure you register for two! Register for one
or register for all! Feel free to bring an apron or paint shirt with you! Three dif-
ferent classes will be offered: The Great Pumpkin, Peacock and Christmas

About the Instructor: Lori Hameister has operated Little Bit of Guidance: Early Childhood Training & Mentoring
(www.littlebitofguidance.com) since 1999 and provides trainings face-to-face as well as online through Eager-to-Learn.
In addition to providing training and mentoring, Lori has been an active participant in the early childhood field of SE
Minnesota by serving on several boards such as: Olmsted County Childcare Association (FCCI), Child Care Resource
and Referral, T.E.A.C.H. and R.E.E.T.A.I.N. Advisory Committee and Rochester Community and Technical
College Child Development Program Advisory Board. She is an approved trainer with the MN Center for Professional
Development and Lori received her A. A. S. degree in Child Development at RCTC in May, 2009. Lori earned her
Minnesota Licensed Family Child Care Association (MLFCCA) "Family Child Care Credential" and "Mentor
Credential" in 2013.
Child and Babysitting Safety-Lori Hameister $42

Learn the responsibilities of being a babysitter. Topics include starting your own
babysitting business, child development, proper feeding and diapering techniques,
personal safety, medical emergencies, basic first aid care and fire safety. The
CABS book (yours to keep) and the course were developed by the American
Safety and Health Institute and approved by the American Pediatrics
Association.

Just mention the words Home Alone, and children think of the excitement depicted in the movies of the same
name. The reality of being home alone can evoke fear and anxiety in many children. Whether left alone for an
hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, children should feel comfortable being alone. This
workshop for children will address several topics to relating to being Home Alone. Topics include personal safe-
ty tips, stranger danger, basic first aid, fire safety, handling the unexpected, internet safety, dealing with loneli-
ness and boredom, storm safety, dealing with siblings as well as trust and honesty. (Students may bring a non
peanut snack)

When should I register?
• Now! Many classes fill quickly. Often instructors need to order supplies.
• Help ensure that your class has enough students by registering at least a week ahead of the start date.
• Registering early will reserve your spot in classes or trips that fill early.
• Please include your daytime phone number and an email address so we can reach you with any class changes.
Where do I go to register in person?
• The Community Education office is in the Community Learning Center. This is located on the North side
of the Queen Angels Church, 912 1st Ave NE.
Why pay by credit card?
• Register online and know immediately if you are in the class.
• Credit card refunds are processed within a day or two. Refund checks are mailed by our district business
office.
Can I use Medica benefits?
• Medica is accepted. Include your member ID number when registering. We will call Medica to verify appli-
cable benefit.
Are there accommodations for people with disabilities?
• Your participation is our goal. Please call 460-1706 to discuss situation.
What happens when a class is cancelled?
• All fees are refunded if a course is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or filled before we receive your
registration.
• Classes are cancelled two business days prior to start date if there is insufficient enrollment. Avoid the dis-
appointment of class cancellations by registering early and inviting a friend to register with you.
Will classes be held if the weather is questionable?
• When Austin Public Schools cancels school or is dismissed early, all Community Education classes are can-
celled.
• Every attempt will be made to contact you by phone or e-mail however, this is not always possible.
• Cancellation notices are announced on local radio and television stations.
• A re-scheduled date will be made available in most circumstances.
What if I want a refund?
• Call 460-1706 as soon as possible.
• Full refund minus a $3 processing fee will be given if we are notified at least five business days prior to the
class you wish to withdraw.
• No refunds given within 5 business days prior to class start.
• No refunds will be issued for trips or special events.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY
Austin Community Education follows the Austin Public School poli-
cy regarding school closings and cancellations. If school begins late due
to inclement weather, morning classes will not be held. If school dis-
misses early, afternoon and evening classes will be cancelled. If school
is closed for the day, there will not be any classes for Community
Education.

The Community Learning Center houses Adult Basic Education, Community Education,

Kids Korner is a quality preschool and school
age child care program. Our goal is to pro-
vide a safe place for children before and after
school, on specified non-school days and
during the summer. We provide an environ-
ment that encourages adventure, creativity,
healthy self-concepts, respect for others,
responsible behavior and a positive attitude.
Kids Korner Sites:
Community Learning Center provides care for children ages 3-5
that are enrolled in ECFE and ECSE Preschool programs. CLC site
is open 6:15 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Austin Public Elementary Schools (Banfield, Neveln,
Southgate, Sumner, and Woodson):
Providing quality before and after school care for Austin Public
School children kindergarten through 4th grade. Woodson site is
open 6:15-8:30 a.m. and 1:50-6:00 p.m. Other elementary sites are
open 6:15 a.m.-8:10 a.m. and 2:40-6:00 p.m.
Enrollment and Registration Information:
Children ages 3 years old through 4th grade may be enrolled pro-
viding space is available at the age appropriate site. A three (3)
business day wait period is required for all families to allow for pro-
cessing of paperwork and appropriate staffing. Registration forms
can be obtained by calling the Kids Korner main office at 507-460-
1706 or online at www.austin.k12.mn.us. A non-refundable regis-
tration fee of $40 per child or $80 maximum per family is required
at registration. Registration fee covers 2016-2017 school year and
summer of 2017.
Child Care Rates:
Kids Korner Regular Enrollment - children that use the program on
a regular basis $10 minimum weekly charge per child $3.10 per
hour per child is charged after reaching the $10 weekly minimum
for school year.
Kids Konnection - is for children that need drop-in care, non-
school days, early dismissal days, or snow emergency days. $20 per
half day (6 hours or less) or $32 per full day (6 hours or more) per
child.
