QHS Leaders attend Blacktown City Festival
On Friday 29th
May Quirindi High School Captains - Tristan Wong, Kaitlyn Hamson, Oliver Smith
and Zara Constable travelled to Blacktown with the Liverpool Plains Shire Council Councillors to attend
the 40 Years of Blacktown City Festival celebrations.
The 2015 Blacktown City Council Streets Alive and Parade was a showcase of vibrant
celebration and diversity. Special appearances included Marlisa Punzalan & Samantha Jade, both
winners of X-Factor Australia, and NRL Footy Show identity Beau Ryan. The stars of Channel 9’s hit
series Reno Rumble also made guest appearances on the day.
The Festival displayed spectacular colour and excitement with stalls, floats and marching bands
operating throughout the day. It was an incredible experience to discover the region’s vivacious and
energetic aura unfold over the day.
We also had the pleasure of
engaging with the special guests
pictured left at the Council Chambers
after the parade.
On behalf of the Captains, I’d like to
thank the Liverpool Plains Shire
Council Representatives and
Councillors for involving us in the
festival and travel arrangements, and
the Blacktown City Council
ambassadors and respective
Councillors for their hospitality in
ensuring our needs were met during
the visit.

Quirindi High School Basketballers Go Down Fighting
On Wednesday 3
rd
June the Opens Boys’ Basketball team travelled to Newcastle to play
Hunter Sports High for a top 8 spot in the state. The QHS Boys’ Basketball Team were one of
the top 16 teams in NSW and were looking for a win to make the State Carnival. In the lead up
games the boys had played strongly to advance to the North West final against Armidale, where
they won and were crowned North West champions.
The Hunter game was a very fast paced game with QHS taking their time to meet the
pace. At the end of the first quarter Hunter Sports High had a commanding lead and were in
control of the game. The second quarter didn’t help Quirindi out offensively, however, their
defence was impenetrable which forced the Hunter side to play outside and lose their
momentum heading in to half time.
In the second half the boys rallied not letting Hunter Sports High add any further points
to the lead they already had. In the 3
rd
quarter the boys trimmed their opponent’s lead through
hard defence and fast break offense. Again, in the fourth quarter Quirindi took control of the
game and narrowed the gap even further, however, it was not enough to close the gap.
The end score was the Hunter’s 73 to Quirindi’s 42. Even though the boys went down it
was an extremely outstanding effort for a small country school like Quirindi High School to play
against a selective sports school.
On behalf of the team we would like to thank Mr Field, Terry Beresford and Simon
Roxborough for taking us to Newcastle and coaching us.

P & C News
School Lockers…………………..
The Quirindi High School P&C are having sets of lockers placed in each of the
girls and boys bathrooms in the school MPC for students to use during their P E lessons
and sports days. The lockers do not have a lock attached to them and it is up to the
students to provide their own lock to attach to these so
that they can lock their own personal belongings in them
during sporting periods. These are not for long term use
but for security purposes during sporting days/classes.
Sports Carnival………………..
The School Sports carnival was yet another successful P&C fundraiser with over
$1500 been taken over the counter for the day. If any parents or students have ideas of
what this money can go towards we would love you to come along to our next meeting
and give your suggestion. This money is money that the students themselves have spent
so we would love to put it back into something that they have requested.
Thank you to everyone who helped on the day either by cooking cakes, helping
serve, cooking on the BBQ or purchasing from the canteen. Without all our volunteers’
days like this would not happen.
Our next meeting is to be held at the school to have a look through our new
canteen. This meeting will be on 21st
July. We will be meeting on the school grounds at
the canteen area at 6pm. All welcome to come and have a look and discuss the change
in the school uniform surveys.
