TOTAL PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE PRIOR TO 2003 AVAILABLE ON REQUEST.
LIFETIME EXPERIENCE
I have been on the trade for almost 29 years inclusive of apprenticeship and compulsory
SANDF duty. During this period I have obtained a lot of experience in all disciplines of
boilermaker and plating. For me to measure up and fabricate a chute for instance is really
my passion. This will eliminate unplanned downtime and increase production which is a
positive contribution to the ongoing challenging economical environment we are
experiencing, a patch job is not a solution but purely a temporary measure till one has
properly planned for a new installation or upgrade.
CURRENT RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Charge hand boilermaker and acting mechanical, electrical and shaft foreman when
required. Co-ordinating of critical spare availability, budget control, estimating of projects
and ordering of material required. This also includes overtime control and co-ordinating of
all training requirements. During my employment with Bokoni Platinum Mine I have co-
ordinated, fabricated and installed various ore handling systems and systemupgrades.
Some were done without any historical reference and had to be re-designed by myself. I am
an accurate, disciplined, sober and safe worker who likes to push myself to create a
sustainable, safe and dependable system. Some procedures during these events were
authored by me, revised by management and implemented. Other responsibilities includes,
but not limited to:
Maintenance and utilization captured on SAP using a planned maintenance order
system including unplanned maintenance.
Statutory legal requirements and maintenance on the man and rock winder both
double and single drum.
6. 6
Replacement and maintenance of skip and cage conveyances, vertical and decline
shafts (giraffe).
Winding rope replacement and periodic front and back end cutting of the ropes.
Maintenance of Centac centrifugal compressors by replacement of intercoolers, oil
coolers and all applicable pipe systems.
Kelvion (GEA Nilenca) and Alva Laval plate heat exchanger maintenance and WESU
environmental friendly water purification system commissioning and maintaining of
the system.
Sulzer and Tektower cooling tower maintenance. This includes fabrication of new
tower bridges, manifolds and distribution pipes.
Main pump station maintenance and upgrading, inclusive of a pump system up to
100 bar. The preparation, fabrication and welding of the schedule 120 pipes were
done by myself. This also included off set laterals, lobster back long radius bends
and ducks foot arrangements in the shaft.
Statutory vertical and decline shaft requirements and maintenance.
Conveyer belt system maintenance including replacement of belt, recovery due to
belt failure resulting in the belt running away, mechanical splicing using Flexco
systems and training of the belt.
Reef box, waste box and tip ramp installations and maintenance thereafter.
Conventional mining tram and ore loading machinery maintenance, such as
locomotives, hoppers and pneumatic loaders (boesman). This includes total
refurbishment of such machines.
11 YEARS OF WORKSHOP EXPERIENCE
Fabrication of various structural items such as
Conveyances (skips, cages, giraffes, man carriages and trackless utility
vehicles), pipe fabrication and installation including development of breeches,
bends, laterals and t-pieces. Conveying systems (fabricating and erecting), bulk
storage structures such as tanks and silos, vibrating feeders (post stress
relieved after welding), various type of building structure fabrication and
erection (rafters, columns, braces, sheeting and flashing). Trigonomical, radial,
calculation and parallel line plate development for example square to rounds,
breeches, conical frustums and ducting. Rolling, bending, plasma cutting,
guillotine cutting, profiling of multiple profiles, mass productions by means of
templates and jigs. Refurbishment of trackless and excavating jumbo machines
and fabrication of utility trackless vehicles to customer specification.
Fabrication of specialised equipment by using various special materials such as
stainless steel (3CR12, 304, 316, 408L), hard wearing material (VRN 400, 500 &
600, Bennox, Hardox, SS10/200, Roqlast, different EN types, cast iron
preparation and welding, aluminium cutting and welding (guillotine, plasma,
AC welding & “push and pull”). Straightening of deformed structures by means
of heat treatment, MIG welding, mild steel and stainless steel, dissimilar steel
welding, fluxcore and argon. Plate girders and castellated beams, plate sheets
of up to 100 mm thick, profiling with a profile cutter and a straight line cutter,
forming of sections by means of a bending brake or hydraulic pyramid roller,
drilling and punching of holes using a radial drill, trolley line drill, magnetic
base slugging and taper shank and punching and cropping. Identifying of
welding requirements, fastener grades and types (GR 4.6, GR 8.8, GR 10.9,
clevelock & nyloc), de-embrittle of fasteners and shamlocks. Alternatively

calculating the grip length and identifying types of swage locks (huck-bolts).
Familiar with the standard protrusion allowed for different types of fasteners.
Assembling jigs and marking- off templates for mass production
5 YEARS OF PLANT EXPERIENCE
Uranium, gold, acid, CIP and flotation plants. Also familiar with concentrators
and smelters.
Upgrading, fabrication and installation of equipment, piping and
structural items in different sections of the process plants. This
includes but not limited to areas such as smelters, filtering,
flotation, agitating, crushing, transferring, cyanide, ball mills,
conveyers and silos.
12 YEARS OF SHAFT & UNDERGROUND EXPERIENCE

PERSONAL REMARKS & ACHIEVEMENTS
I am very familiar, confident and experienced with reference to being a boilermaker.
Being an acting supervisor I had to overcome a lot of serious, production threatening
scenarios such as major machine failures, shaft flooding and cost cutting which I
managed with skilful, professional, positive and safe approaching procedures. Being
an artisan, team leader or whatever are being required from me I proceed as it is my
calling and after all these years I still have passion for my trade, whether it is a
breakdown or fabricating for a new installation, I still have a high standard and
discipline towards myself. I push myself hard and that is very satisfying. My ability to
lead a team and being a role player is excellent and I have effectively implemented
situational leadership on various occasions with different scenarios, resulting in
positive outcomes. Interaction, awarding, strategic planning (GANNT chart),
communication, gaining trust and respect and observing team member behaviour can
only lead to a task, project or procedure being done safely and within the time frame.
A happy worker is a safe worker. Baseline risk assessments together with ongoing
hazard identification and assessments will also ensure safe and incident free tasks and
procedures. Therefore I can assure you that by adding me to your organisation will
prove to be positive both financially and safety wise. We are experiencing daily
challenges in the world of artisans and their responsibilities, skills and experience.
Almost the entire new workforce needs to be coached and experience needs to be
shared with them as it is slowly disappearing by means of death, retirement or experts
leaving the country. Being an old school boilermaker I can share my knowledge and
experience with upcoming learners and ensure that it stays in circulation, which will
also contribute towards your establishment.
I want to thank you for taking the time to read my resume and I trust that it will meet
your expectations.
Yours in health and safety
