3. Introduction
In simple terms Li-Fi can be thought as light based
Wi-Fi.
Li-Fi is a wireless optical networking technology that
uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for data
transmission.
Li-Fi is designed to use LED light bulbs similar to
those currently in use in many energy-conscious
homes and offices.
Li-Fi data is transmitted by the LED bulbs and
received by photodeceptors.
4. How its works
Li-Fi and Wi-Fi are quite similar as both transmit
data.
However Wi-Fi uses radio waves while Li-Fi uses
of visible light.
Data is fed into LED bulb ,it then sends data at
high speeds to the photo-detector.
The signal is converted back into a binary data
stream that we would get as videos, audios and
applications of internet enables devices.
6. Usage of Li-Fi:
• The LEDs can be switched on and off very quickly
which gives nice opportunity for data transfer in the
form of Binary code.
• Switching ON an LED is logical ‘1’,switching of an
LED is logical ‘0’.
• Hence it is possible to encode the data into the LED’s
by using a controller ,we just have to vary at which
LED’s .
• Flicker depending on the data we want to encode to
give different strings of o’s and 1’s.
8. How it is different?
Li-Fi technology is based on LEDs for the transfer of
data.
The transfer of the data can be with the help of all
kinds of light, no matter the part of the spectrum that
they belong.
That is, the light can belong to the invisible,
ultraviolet or the visible part of the spectrum.
9. Wi-Fi vs Li-Fi
Li-Fi Wi-Fi

Li-Fi is fast internet speed Wi-Fi is slow comparatively Li-Fi.
Data transfer speed is about 10gbps Data transfer speed is about
150mbps
Coverage distance is about 10

Device to device connectivity is low
10. Applications
1.Airlines
Whenever we travel through airway we the
face many problems in communication media, because
the whole airway communication based on radio waves,
to overcome this drawback on radio waves , li-fi is
introduced.
11. 2.Ocean beds:
Li-Fi can even work under water
Were Wi-Fi fails completely, there by throwing open
endless opportunities for military and navigation
operations.
12. Advantages of Li-Fi
High data transmission rates of up to 10Gbps can
be achieved.
Since light cannot penetrate walls, it provides
privacy and security that Wi-Fi cannot.
Li-Fi has low implementation and maintenance
costs.
Wi-Fi transmit data through radio waves that
causes health diseases. Li-Fi uses Light
sources.
13. Disadvantage
Light can't pass through objects.
A major challenge facing Li-Fi is how the
receiving device will transmit back to
transmitter.
High installation cost of the VLC systems.
14. Conclusion
The possibilities are numerous and can be
explored further.
If his technology can be put into practical use,
every bulb can be used something like a Wi-Fi
hotspot to transmit wireless data and we will
proceed toward the cleaner, greener, safer and
brighter future.
