What kind of media institute might distribute your media product and
why?

2. • What is a film distributor?
They are responsible for the marketing and circulation of a film once it has been
made, with the main aim getting from A to B for example from our editing screens
onto YouTube. With the real product, the end result is to get it into the cinemas
and streaming sites to maximize the potential audience for our production.

3. • Some specific types of distributor only target certain end products like DVDs and
BlueRay or may only be available in one specific country, limiting the possible
amount of people that be able to view it which in turn would restrict the target
audience.

4. How does the process of distribution work?
• Once the product has been completed the company then signs an agreement allowing the
distribution company to license their product to the general public.
• After this the production is then shown to those who represent the cinemas to see if they
want to show the film and what terms from the license. For example the certification it
needs and which cinemas it will be released at.
• The distribution company then creates teasers in the forms of posters and online to draw
the target audience in which then boosts the numbers. This can be done by prints being
sent to the cinema a few days before the screening of it.
• Then the film is launched for a limited time to bring in the numbers making it seem as a
limited time deal.
• Then the prints are sent back to the licensing company who then receive their profits form
the film.
• Then the film is re released in the form of DVDs for the target audience to get thweir own
copies

5. What Distributor best suits our production?
• I have decided that New Line Cinema would be the best option as
they are a well known sub unit of Warner Bros and are able to attract
a wider audience range for our product. This is because they can
attract both mainstream and independent audiences. They are also
their own company managing many aspects of the process of
distribution ( development, production, marketing, distribution and
business affairs) and use the promotion of Warner Bros to maximise
their target audience. They have produced some well know horrors
like Nightmare on elm street and Wes cravens new nightmare.

6. Disadvantage of New line cinema?
• As it is not one of the well known companies, it is not highly featured
with the top earning films which means that our product might not
generate as much profit as it would with say Universal.

7. In conclusion?
• I think that New Line Cinema is an appropriate distribution company
for our product as the positives outweigh the negatives meaning that
our product would be noticed by a wide range of people
