U.S. Army – Army Knowledge Online (AKO)
• Challenge: The U.S. Army sought a cost-effective solution that would enable
more efficient, advanced, and secure knowledge management, along with
collaboration and information sharing across the globe.
• Solution: CRGT designed and developed the AKO program:
– Encrypted internet solution that integrates diverse, COTS applications into a user-friendly
knowledge management portal
– Fast, secure, worldwide access to a wide range of information and tools
– Warfighter support (e.g., forms and regulations, installations, change-of-station
information, communities of interest, Army news, and AKO Knowledge Center)
– Continued operations and maintenance support, including portal software
integration, data center management, managed hosting, information assurance,
physical security, help desk services, asset management, and acquisition services
• Success: AKO became the authoritative global portal and e-mail solution for
the US Army and their families to offer secure communications and diverse
application services no matter where they are stationed. Allows soldiers to
communicate securely with their families, other soldiers, the civilian
workforce, authorized contractors who support our Army at war, and all active
and retired Army, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard personnel.

US Postal Service – Facility Management Program
• Challenge: Optimize operations by reducing
the number of leased and owned facilities
from 36,000 to 25,000 while maximizing use
of modern equipment and minimizing impact
to employees.
• Solution: CRGT provided a visualization
solution that accounted for available square
footage in a facility, the amount of driving
time added to carrier routes for a given
property move, the ability to terminate
leases, and the impact of relocation on
employees. The application provides a
feasibility analysis of various optimization
efforts, thereby reducing an effort that
previously took weeks to complete to mere
seconds.
• Success: USPS is realizing their goal of adding
$150 million per year to the bottom line.

US Postal Service – Enterprise Energy Management
• Challenge: The USPS has elected to follow the Federal
mandates require that government organizations
reduce their energy consumption 30% by 2015.
• Solution: CRGT worked closely with the USPS to identify
the most significant opportunities for energy reductions
were and designed a strategic plan. We then created an
enterprise energy management system that pulls data
from disparate systems—including meters, finance,
utility, and facilities—to render a complete picture. We
also enhanced it with normalization capabilities for
both weather and operations.
• Success: The USPS has an open standards approach
across its disparate metering platforms, which ensures
standardization, security, and scalability. After a
successful pilot, we are moving forward together to a
complete roll-out across 30,000 facilities nationwide.

US Postal Service eFleet – Financial Management
• Challenge: The USPS operates a nationwide
fleet of over 200,000 vehicles. Historically,
drivers used oil company credit cards to pay for
fuel, oil, repairs, and other operating expenses.
Invoices were processed and paid manually,
which was slow, expensive, and prone to errors
and fraud.
• Solution: Within a few months, CRGT had
deployed an automated eFleet system into
production. Security measures were
incorporated to manage access for all 16,000
users and help reduce fraudulent activity.
• Success: Since implementation, the system has
enabled the agency to streamline payment
processing, recouping over $30 million in
exempt fuel taxes, and detecting fraudulent
credit card purchases. The eFleet system won a
prestigious “Top 5” Excellence.gov award.

Defense Logistics Agency/Department of Agriculture
– Network Monitoring
• Challenge: Provide 24/7/365 network monitoring
to multiple customers with nationwide operating
locations.
• Solution: CRGT provides highly technical staff at the
centralized Dallas, TX Enterprise Operations Center
which provides redundant communications and
power as well as a fully mirrored COOP site in
Peachtree City, GA.
• Success: CRGT has maintained the strictest of
service levels with zero discrepancies for over the
past four years. Our technicians respond to
customer outages in under 15 minutes alerting
subject matter experts who resolve issues and
maintain superior network “up time” rates.

Department of Energy, National Nuclear Safety
Administration – Service Desk Transition
• Challenge: Due to relocation to a facility smaller by
75%, customer requested relocation of Tier 1 IT
Service Desk support to an off site facility.
• Solution: CRGT developed a transition plan to move
all Tier 1 Service Desk calls to its Dallas Enterprise
Operations Center.
• Success: Over a period of three months CRGT
relocated or hired staff for the Dallas facility,
duplicated operations to accept calls at both
locations and then cut over 100% Tier 1 Service
Desk duties. Utilizing economies of scale the
customer is getting greater support for the same
funds while increasing the ability to exceed service
levels.

Chemical Materials Agency – Systems Integration
• Challenge: CMA sought a true integration project
partner, requiring a broad scope of information
technology services.
• Solution: CRGT provided a range of critical need
services that included the following services:
– Developed and deployed operational help desk
services for 1,300 CMA users
– Provided electronic data and document services
– Streamlined network management architecture
– Implemented and administered a document
management system with a Web-based user interface
– Delivered business process reengineering services
• Success: CRGT implemented and maintains a
virtual server environment for CMA, making it
notably one of the first Army organizations to
achieve comprehensive virtualization and SOA
alignment.

Department of Defense – Space Based Infrared
System (SBIRS)
• Challenge: The DoD concluded there was a need for
expansion in theater missing warning capabilities and began
planning for an improved infrared satellite sensor that would
support both long-range and short-range theater ballistic
missile warning and defense operations.
• Solution: CRGT’s staffing experience in legacy Defense
Support Programs (DSP) fostered quality engineers, operators
and analysts with the experience and knowledge needed to
develop the 21st Century system (SBIRS). Lockheed Martin
and Northrop Grumman rely heavily on CRGT personnel to
support the mission in all three critical areas of SBIRS:
– SBIRS High – development of space sensors operating in
geosynchronous earth orbit and high elliptical orbit.
– SBIRS Low – development of scanning infrared sensors designed
to acquire ballistic missiles in the early stages of flight.
– Ground Segment – Mission Control Station (MCS) operators and
analysts.
• Success: CRGT personnel have been critical team members in
the development, launch, and operation of every SBIRS
sensor.

Army Medical Command – Project Transition
• Challenge: Retained qualified staff from
incumbent contractor who under valued
employee worth.
• Solution: In concert with contract team
members CRGT provided solution to resolve
pay discrepancies moving to a Services Contract
Act based pay system. Creating three tiers of
labor categories each employee was fairly
compensated and had room to grow.
• Success: CRGT maintained 100% of incumbent
employees who in most cases received
increased benefits and pay. These hard
charging individuals ensured zero risk during
transition and continue to provide superior
support to CRGT and our customer.

Editor's Notes

  1. We recognize that a mission that fails because of too much security is just as bad as one that fails because of too little security. The C.L.E.A.R. tenants were crafted to achieve the necessary balance between innovation and security in today’s high tech environment.
  2. C.L.E.A.R. activities are complimentary and work across client sets and industries to identify and share lessons learned and best practices we must implement adequate security within the mission set.
  3. In the rush of enterprise mobility challenges, there is one undercurrent that is especially challenging for chief information officers and information technology departments: the consumer-driven nature of mobility itself.
