PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
Mr. Nicholls, is a Project Controls Manager Analyst/Specialist Consultant in EPC capital project
management practice arena, provides in-depth schedule analysis for claims and disputes involving delay
occurring in the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) process. His more than 40 years of
management experience in General Contracting and Project Controls have provided him with exceptional
qualifications to determine root cause responsibility for schedule and cost deviation during execution of
EPC projects in all sectors.
After beginning as a general superintendent and general manager of a concrete and general contracting
firms, from 1975 through 1987, Mr. Nicholls developed a solid background in construction practices &
principles and later from 1987 to today successfully included them into project controls. He specialized in
Critical Path Methodology (CPM) planning/scheduling, Earned Value Management (EVM) cost tracking
and estimating for major design and construction contractors building industrial, educational,
manufacturing, commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects. His diverse expertise stems from
successful contributions to a wide range of projects such as Power Generation and
Transmission/Distribution facilities, Civil Earthwork and DOT Highway projects, Airport Facilities in (Las
Vegas, Tampa, Orlando and Miami), Mid and Downstream Oil & Gas, LNG Terminals, Petrochemical
Plants, Turnarounds, City/County Municipal contracts and Entertainment Facility developments and Motion
Picture Planning, Scheduling and Cost Management.
His primary roles included the day to day management in both office and field environments where his skills
in Project Controls Management lead the way to a multitude of successful projects for many owners and
companies. His acquired skills and knowledge in running field and office environments allowed him to
expand his work in Safety, Estimating, Marketing, Accounting – AP/AR, EVM Cost Tracking and CPM
Program/Project Planning.
Since 1994 Mr. Nicholls’ engagements have been focused primarily on Project Controls Management, EVM
Cost & CPM Schedule on high profile critical programs for large Brown and Green Field EPC projects,
addressing estimating, cost and scheduling issues and delays arising from the Pre-Feed, Front End
Engineering and Design (FEED) through Detailed Design, Procurement, Construction,
Commissioning/Startup and Commercial Operation phases. Primary clients have included major operating
firms in the oil & gas, petrochemicals, and power generation/transmission and delivery industries as a
consultant or direct hire to EPC firms in addition to being seconded to clients as an owner’s representative
as a Project Controls Manager for CPM schedule, EVM Cost and Change Order Management.
MR. Nicholls is highly proficient in implementation of the major scheduling platforms, including all Oracle
Primavera scheduling systems and MS Project, as well as peer reviewed schedule delay analysis
techniques such as Time Impact, Windows, and Collapsed As-Built formats. He has achieved numerous
recognitions and certifications in the project planning and scheduling community, including Primavera
Subject Matter Expert (SME), Primavera Alpha & Beta Testing Consultant, Primavera Trainer and Train
the Trainer, Primavera Pertmaster-Risk Analysis, and Deltek Acumen Fuse-Schedule Diagnostics.
In addition to his scheduling prowess, Mr Nicholls is well versed in the Cost Analysis and EVM Cost
Tracking arena as well as interfacing data between various project control systems and software platforms.
Change Order Management and Risk Analysis during the lifecycle of a project or program is where his
extensive experience is most useful and the judicious application of the appropriate findings and relative
data.
