Music institutions are things such as record labels
which fund their signed artist.
They provide funding for things such as music videos,
studio sessions etc.
They do this so we as the public will see these videos
and hear the music and eventually buy the music.
3. ‘The Big Three’
There are three main major labels in the music institution, these are:

Major global music company owned by French media
conglomerate Vivendi.
The largest of the big three music companies.
Owns Universal Music Publishing Group, which is the
second largest music publishing company in the world.
In November 2011, UMG began their purchase of EMI
record label, which was previously one of the ‘big 4’.
They completed their acquisition of EMI on September
28, 2012.
5. Sony Music Entertainment
Sony Music Entertainment is the second largest music
corporation in the world.
It is owned and controlled by Sony Corporation of
America, the United States subsidiary of Japan's Sony
Corporation.
It has gone through many changes, including name
changes.
It has many sub-labels and different divisions within the
media industry, it specialises in music and
entertainment.
6. Warner Music Group
Warner Music Group is the third largest music label in the
world.
It is the largest American-owned music corporation
worldwide.
Operates some of the largest and most successful recording
labels in the world, including Warner Bros. Records and
Atlantic Records.
In December 2008, negotiations between WMG and
YouTube broke down. As a result, Warner Music Group has
continuously blocked or muted videos on YouTube that
feature music recordings belonging to its labels, however as
of September 2012 all WMG videos have been un-muted.
