Ariel introduces communication apps Discord and Notion that can be used by Bonner programs. Discord is an instant messaging platform that allows users to communicate via voice/video calls and text messaging in private chats or servers. Notion is a versatile organizational software. Ariel provides an overview of how to set up and customize servers/templates on each platform to meet a program's needs, including examples of useful channel types for Discord and templates for Notion. Participants are invited to ask questions and provide feedback via a form.

I am Ariel! I attend Stetson University as a 2nd
year Bonner Scholar. My pronouns are

workshop!
We will be talking about the following:

Discord is an instant messaging and social platform. Users have
the ability to communicate with voice calls, video calls, text
messaging, media and files in private chats or as part of
communities called "servers".
For our intents and purposes, we will be focusing on the general
features of the server functions and overview the way to adapt a
server to your program’s need.

Desktop/IOS/Android Website
With your app store software or the
discord.com website, you can download
and create an account. Once an account
is created, every server joined, messages,
and call logs are shared with all apps that
you use your log in with.
You don’t actually have to download an
app to access discord either. Go to your
prefered web browser and input
discord.com, and instead of clicking the
download button, right under is a button
for “Open Discord In Your Browser.”

In this channel people can quickly check the when, where, and
what of an event, T&E, or other time sensitive matters.
In this channel, you can make it solely for reminder and
notification purposes. With the use of @’s you can target specific
notifications and reminders to specific groups.
The @’s are part of the role selection.
18. R O L E S E L E C T I O N
Additionally, with these roles, you can make specific channels only
viewable to these role.
Role selection is a bit more complex since it uses bots to be able to
function. Do not worry however I will provide a link to some
YAGPDB.xyz bot tutorials for your reference.
With this bot, you can allow people to choose their own roles
instead of having to assign them yourself.
This makes sending targeted messages to cohorts, sites, and
everyone easier.
19. R O L E S E L E C T I O N
Here are some of the roles we have on our server;
21. G E N E R A L C H A T A N D V O I C E C H A N E L S
Similarly, the general voice channel is a place where everyone can
join a voice/video call (like zoom but better) and share about their
day, play games together, talk over possible projects and even
share their screens and watch movies together!
The chat channel is where all of your fellow peers can interact in
text format. Many times this can be used to share information
between students and peer leaders.
23. W E E K L Y R E M I N D E R
This channel I believe is extremely crucial to have in the server due
to its use. We use this channel to send our Bonner Weekly and at
the same time archive it for easy access and viewing after it is
sent. Additionally, if there was an event that was part of a Bonner
Weekly that occured a couple of weeks ago, having this channel
can allow for the accessing of this information easier than other
methods.
25. C A R P O O L I N G
With this channel, arranging and planning carpooling for outside
Bonner hangouts or transport to sites becomes amazingly simple
and accessible to everyone.
We know that not everyone at college has a car or bike, and in
some campus cities, the public transport infrastructure is not the
best either, so carpooling become a neccesity.
27. S I T E Q U E S T I O N S
If your program is big enough, you can create site specific
channels for each community partner that your students are a
part of.
This channel is very self explanatory. Here is where site specific
questions can be asked and answered.

Sending happy birthday messages
Self care ideas
Outside academic meet ups
Recreational ideas
Random nice messages
and sending memes!
This channel can be used for a plethora of things.

This collection of voice and chat channels will be for your lead
team! No matter the way it is structured, you can make this chat
only visible to these select members!
With this you can share important and sesitive information in a
timely manner, with the safety of it being only for your eyes.
Additionally you can use it to plan class based meeting, share
concerns and critiques, or even just to talk normally.

Notion is a versitile organizational software that can be used
individually or cooperatively with other accounts.
One of the best things is that...IT’S FREE! And just like discord it is
has cross platform capabilities and cloud sync that is not locked
behind a paywall.
