A high-quality education reflectsthe whole school experience, and that'swhy Hoover excels: it paysattention to every aspect of a child'sdevelopment, and
his/her learning, emotional, and social growth. Teachersare well-trained, dedicated, and eager to help children learn in an open, cooperative environment,
usually adapted to a child'slearning abilities. Teacher-student ratio isgood. Curricula isstrong; with music, art, integrated technology (ipads), PE, strong literacy,
math, science. The focuson health, social relationships, and character-building showshowHoover fostersthe whole well-being of children. The many
extracurricular activitiesencourage learning and community experiences. The Principal isdoing a good job bringing the school up to excellent standing. Asa
neighborhood school, most parentsand studentsknowand support each other. Are there areasthat need improvement? Yes, but that happensin every school.
The facilitiesare old; the MCAS scoreswere down a bit (they're going up now). But education ismore than a building and standardized tests. We are very
pleased because our child isimmensely happy, learning and thriving, at Hoover.
Hoover school wasan excellent elementary school. Best in the city. Teachersare great, great community.
I believe the school offersaverage academics, however, the culture of the school prohibitsprogressupward and forward. A fewof the teachersare truly
exceptional and devoted to the students, but several seem to simply do the minimum job required.
Overall, I have been disappointed with the overall quality of the education my children have received. I have great hopesthat the current principal will help turn
thingsaround, but that may take a fewyears. There isa definite problem with the school culture; a lackof professionalism, a 'clubbiness' amongst the staff. Many
staff membersalso have children in the school, which hasled to a lackof confidentiality and gossipy behavior that underminesthe educational mission of the
school. There isa definite lackof consistency in the quality of instruction..teacherson each grade level team don't alwaysteach the same content; some don't
reach the grade level benchmarks. There seemsto be no accountability with the teaching staff, they seem to do asthey please. I hope the newprincipal will
restore parent confidence in the school, it isat an all time low.
