No windowsin the classroom makesfor a depressing environment that suppressescreativity. Drug culture wasrampant when I attended school there just a couple
yearsago.

All my kidswent through the Melrose High School. We found the academicsgood and plenty of opportunitiesfor the kidsto participate in extra curricular
activities. All of them ended up going to very good universitiesincluding Smith, NorthEastern, and Univ. of Vermont.

Walkthrough the hallsof Melrose High School on an average day, and you'll see something that roughly resemblesa prison. A lackluster student body islocked
away in windowlessclassroomsof a building that no longer meetsstate regulatory codeswith teacherswho want to leave just asbadly astheir studentsdo. Kids
who take AP classesmay be able to glean some semblance of a decent education from MHS, but average level classesare almost completely devoid of
challenge or rigor of any kind. The school'sadministration hasbecome increasingly unstable. I have had 3 principlesin the past 4 years, and one year in which
there actually wasno active administration at all, merely a group of interim leaders. With the exception of one or two standout teacherswho are actually quite
dedicated, most of the staff ismediocre and on some occasionsdownright clueless. The guidance department isalso fairly incompetent and each guidance
counselor isresponsible for over 300 students, making individual attention rare and inadequate. MHS not only teachesmediocrity, but truly encouragesit aswell.
My four yearsat MHS were a painful and uninspiring waste of my time.

Melrose High School might have been a good school at one time, but it isclearly a disgrace today. The newprincipal isan empty suit who caresmore about
boosting the school'sreputation through public relationsefforts, than about providing a quality education to the studentsenrolled there. Although there a few
exceptions, most of the faculty are incompetent and disengaged. If anyone isconsidering sending a child to thisplace, please consider all alternatives, even if it
meansmoving out of town. Thisschool isterrible and getting worse.

Apathy runsrampant among the administrative staff and most teachersat thisschool unlessyou have a child who isin AP or Honorsclasses. If you have a child of
'average' intelligence, despite howinvolved a parent(s) you may be in your child'seducation, you'll not get much support or help from the administration or most
of the teachers.

Great school. Good music and art programs. Plenty of afterschool sports, band and other programs. My children graduated from Melrose High School they
enjoyed their high school years. Student graduatesgo on to college and are accepted by ivy leaque schools

I'm a firm believer that you get out of public schoolswhat you send to public schools. There isno question that if a supportive family sendsa student who values
education to Melrose High that a fantastic education can be had in thisenviornment. My daughter isproof. Her AP and Honorsclasseswere challenging, her
SAT scoresreflected that she had a great math and English background, and asa freshman at one of the nation'stop ranked univerisitiesshe iscompeting
admirably with those who attended private schoolsor elite public schools. (Dean'sList) We found teachersand staff at MHS to be extremely dedicated to the
studentsand truly supportive and challenging. Thisisa public school - parentsmust be involved to ensure successof their children.

Thisisa fine school and i dont knowwhat some of those other people were talking about. It hasone of the best attendance recordsin the area and hasgreat
teachers. the after school activitiesare plentiful and the sportsteamsare some of the best in the league. The only bad part would be 2 hour practicesevery
weekday. Overall i give thisschool an A+.

I've been attending thisschool for two and a half yearsand I agree with most of those who consider it a joke. A lot of classesare empty because studentschoose
to skip and go out for a smoke or just go elsewhere for the rest of the day. There isoften a shortage of help available so classesare herded to the cafeteria for free
periods. Most studentsjust don't care about their gradesand refuse to put in any effort. Teachersare okay, but they've gotten rid of a lot of the good ones. Overall
thisschool isjust apathetic, studentsand staff alike.

Mhsisa not the ideal learning enviornment, i agree totally with one of the past reviewsstating 'the dean of studentsisa joke, and the principal lacksknowlegde
on howto do hisjob'. Newteachersare needed! newstaff would also be a very big step in the right direction, the hall monitorsseem to care more about the
studentsthan the teachers/staff do (all are very nice.)

Children have an opportunity to learn and participate in terrific programsto the extent of their and their parental interest. If your children are motivated, they
have the opportunity to enjoy immense successat MHS.

Thisschool isa joke. The principal and hisadministration are non-responsive and ineffective. While there a fewexcellent teachers, most seem to be burned out
and ambivalent. The Dean of Studentsisa disgrace, completely unresponsive to parents. Cutting classesseemsto be the norm at thisschool and the
administrative staff just looksthe other way because they just don't want to be bothered. The principal, when not asleep at hisdesk, iscompletely obliviousto the
needsof the studentsand forget getting any response from him if you are concerned parent, chancesare whatever conversation you may have had with him he
will have completely forgotten within the hour. Drugsare rampant. The only decent administrative staff in that school are the hall monitors. Linda Hansen isvery
caring and responsive to the studentsand the parents.

For the most part, the studentsdon't care to do any workor be challenged, yet they still want to be rewarded with the grades. A student body that actsfairly
entitled. Many teachersappear bitter, cranky and tired, they need to just retire and move on, let some newyoung faculty in! The current staff just doesn't have
the energy or desire anymore to elevate these kidsto the next level.
