Initial Plans
Benjamin Lawrenson
Initial Reaction
With this project, the brief is quite open to what I am able to make. For example when I first thought about what I could make I looked back at previous
projects. From my print project when I made a magazine article, I found that I really enjoyed the photoshop editing part where I could pick apart the images
and turn them into something unique which you wouldn’t normally see anywhere else. With this idea of being unique I also have to think about my audience.
Such as would this unique idea be appealing to the audience and what sort of people (i.e. age, gender, psychographic, class) would enjoy or be interested in.
Being able to make something more unique is something that I want to take from the print project and use in my F.M.P. During my music video project I was
able to think more about what I wanted as there were a lot more possibilities for me to look into, such as the genre of music and if I wanted the video to have
a story told into it. With the music video I also learnt lots of skills for the project that I am about to make. My initial thoughts to the project that I could make
is a unique style of music video. In my research I will be looking at your more generic style of music video and the types of imagery that is used within them. I
will also plan to start looking at the plans that I have for my designed idea. For instance, with my past music video product I can use skills video editing in my
F.M.P. In this learnt about layering as I will need to specifically layer characters on to the scene in a position so that you can easily see the hierarchy of the
characters. The brief plot of my music video is that I there will 3-5 character that approach a real life scenario, such as a bus stop or in an airport. When all the
characters are on set they will use objects and movements to create sounds which I will overlap with specific Foley to make it clearer and crisp. The sounds
that are created by there character will be used to make beats and tunes for which will layer together to make a song. Throughout the video I will get the
character to use different objects and movements to create different sounds, this will change the song as in the same way that a generic song has a chorus
and a verse to break it up. Depending on what scenario that I choose, I can also use things that you could hear in that location to add as a beat or to add to the
song in some way. For example, if I set it in an airport then I could use the sound of the tanoid calling people to the plane as a beat to interact to the song. I
will have all the characters played by myself and will record on a greenscreen so that I can easily layer the character into the specific position and location that
I want. With this idea I will need to look into green screening so that I can smoothly get rid of all the green without making it look tacky. My initial thought of
this without doing research into is that with premier pro once I have gotten rid of the background, to make it clearer I can feather around the character a little
bit to full get rid of any green. The idea of using a greenscreen will allow me to have this scene set where ever would be best fit. This idea will also involve of
lots of Foley and sound effects that I will have to make and sync up to the video. From my previous audio project, I feel confident about making the Foley. In
my audio project that I have done in my first year of level 3 and my project of level 2, I will use audition to be able to fully edit every sound effect. This will
allow me to specifically make it to my desire. Whilst in high school in my Music Tec course I did a project specialized in Foley. From this I will be able to find
more items to use to be able to create the Foley. The second idea that I am possibly thinking to make it a similar idea of a music video. In this there will be one
singular main character going on with his day. I will have a base sound/ beat which will be played throughout the video. I can use the character movement
such as drinking a drink, brushing his teeth or playing a video game to add sounds to create a beat like how the first idea possibly has. This design also requires
the greenscreen as I can have the character go wherever I want him to. The good thing about wanting to use greenscreen is that I can record whenever. For
example if I recorded outside I would have to wait for a certain time of day and for specific weather conditions. Green screening will be something that I will
need to watch some videos about in my research, with this I will be able to find out techniques and tip. I will also need to try some experiments of green
screening. This could be in a format where I do before and after testers of with and without the effect. With green screening I can also have specific lighting so
that the backing is all the same colours so that the finished product will look cleaner. For both of these potential ideas I will have to think about making a
mock up of it on garage band. From this I can figure out what instruments I would need and the possible Foley. By having a mock up of the song that will be
created, it will make the production part a lot quicker. This is something that I can look at in my research and experiments. I am wanting to make these
products as it is what I feel most confident in and I believe that I it is what I will do best in. This idea that I am wanting will be more of a comedic genre as the
movements will be over the top but realistic. As I am wanting to make this comedic, this will also have a light hearted mood. This will be good as I am
potentially thinking of having my target audience to be male between 15 and 25. I am thinking that as I come under that age category meaning I could use
myself as primary research. I can also ask fellow friends and classmates whom will be in that category to take a survey so I can see what them (as the
audience) would prefer to be seen in the video, such as something relatable and trending. By knowing this, it will help my product to be more appealing to
them.
Initial Reaction- Rudy Mancuso
For my product ideas, I have started to look at the creator Rudy Mancuso. He is a youtuber that makes a range of videos which covers skits, music videos and
small vlogs. In this instance the music video aspect is what I am using for partial inspiration. For example on one of his videos that he has made he shows the
process of a song and makes a video out of this. This interests me as it is like what I did for my music video at the start of the year. As the video goes along,
you see him trying different wording to improve the song and with every combination it changes the song into something different. This idea that he has done
does appeal to me and would be an idea that I would love to do and will take into consideration for this project. The videos that Rudy Mancuso creates are
unique and his work is something that inspires me. After watching some of his videos, it allows me to think of different techniques that I can try out in my
experiments. Lots of the music videos that he makes are for songs that he creates. Rudy Mancuso made a similar video to the ideas that I could possibly do
and I will be using him and his style of music video as inspiration for my product. The main video of inspiration that Rudy has made was a skit styled music
video where there five members of the public whom got stuck in an elevator. By having them there they made movements with themselves and objects to
make the ‘beat’ for the song. If I choose this theme of music video I will have to make sure that my product is significantly different. This can include of being
in a different setting, different style of clothing's and music, and that my storyline isn’t a copy of one of his. Will in this there will be parts of his work that I
recreate to be similar in my product. For example the style of music video will be similar. Rudy Mancuso also creates of of his own audio which is something I
would like to do. For his audio there are two different aspects that I will be needing to look into. Firstly is his music. With this he makes it clear that the video
and music a line together. In some of his videos he uses instruments such as a guitar or piano to add detail into the video. The character that normally plays
this instrument is the main character that means most to the video. This character will normally be centred in the video. The instrument normally sets the
mood and changes the genre of music. For example the piano might set more of a classical tone where the guitar might be more swing. n my video I am
thinking of having my characters positioned so that I can use a keyboard to add to the characters. The other part of his audio is his sound effects. The ones
that can be heard in the video is Foley which amplifies it more and allows the sound effects to stand out more. I like this as it makes it sound more
professional. By doing this, Rudy can make the sounds specific to how he wants. For example he can change the tempo, the pitch and the volume compared
to the other audio. Finally, with Rudy Mancuso’s music he focuses on the positioning of the characters. For example the bass and character that make the
beat will usually be on the outer edges of the screen. The character that changes the most/ adds the melody will normally be in the centre to show that they
are more important. This kind of hierarchic is something that I would like to include in my version of the video.

Mood Board- Character Position
Mood Board-
Character Position
These three images represent the kind of positioning
that I want my characters to have in my music video. For
example on all three of these examples you can tell who
is the main/most important character. These characters
are usually shown to be the person in the center of the
screen, this is as the audience will be more focused on
them. The other character that are on the scene will
most likely be back up dancers. On the second image,
the characters to the side are being used to make
movements that creates beats and small tunes for the
song. This allows the focus to stay on the character in
the middle who contributes to the song the most. With
my video I will use this positioning. I will have the
characters in an arrow formation. This will allow me to
easily show all the characters clearly, not have them
overlap to much as you wont be able to see their
movements as well and so that it keeps the main focus
to the character in the middle which will be contributing
got the song the most.
Mood Board- Character costumes
Mood Board-
Character costumes
In this section I have picked out five images which
shows my characters best. I want my characters to
have a range of age and looks. The five categories
I have chosen are; Old man, businessman,
goth/emo, nerd and modem day teen. As all the
characters will be played by myself, this will allow
the audience to easily tell the difference between
all the characters. Each character will have a
specific item that then can move for example the
goth could jingle a chain and the nerd could be
turning a page in a book. I will have the modern
day teen to be the main character in the middle of
the as this character will be the most relatable
character that the audience can relate to, by
doing this the video will be more appealing to
them and they will want to watch. Finally this
character may have an instrument to play to
create a melody.
Mood Board- Character Design #1
Nerd
Mood Board-
Character Design
#1 nerd
For this character I have come across two
different styles of them. On the left is
more of a stereotypical nerd look while on
the right I have started looking at more of
a cool looking nerd. Both styles have pros
and cons. The stereotypical look will make
it easier for the audience to tell the
difference between the other characters.
This style will also also be to use items
such as suspenders and books to create
sounds. The more modern style nerd will
appeal to the audience more as they can
relate to him better. Unfortunately, this
character style is limited to items that
they can use. There costume will also be
similar to the modern day teen which
might allow them characters to interact
with each other.
Mood Board- Character Design #2
Goth
Mood Board-
Character Design
#2 goth
This character has two different versions of its
style that I could potentially use. On the left is
more of a 2000’s looking goth. Compared to
the other style this will blend into the video
more and won't stand out. While the other
image is more of a historic goth. The long coat
and looks make the character stand out more
which can be good so that the audience also
notices that character. Both characters have
easy props that they can use, such as a chain
or bracelet. This sound can be used for a
constant beat that the main character can use.
The more modern goth might not be able to
interact as much and might not have much of a
role (musically) as they will be in the corner
being ’shy’ and ‘quiet’. While the other
character will be more ‘active’ with props and
characters.
Mood Board- Character Design #3
old man
Mood Board- Character
Design #3
old manThis character has two stylings that I could
potentially use. The left image is a stereotypical
old man where is is feebler and needs and walking
stick. This idea is good as this character can use
his walking stick to create a drum themed beat.
This character will limit themselves to what props
they can use as they won't be able to move as
well. While the character on the right is more of a
trendy and active old man look. This character will
be able to use more props which will allow him to
contribute to the song more. This character will
be similar but an older version of the modern
teen. This means that I won't be following my
original plan to make all the look different so that
the audience can easily tell the difference
between them. Finally this modern character will
blend in more. I am planning to try make all
character stand out so that the characters are
unique.
Mood Board- Character Design #4
business man
Mood Board- Character
Design #4 Business man
This character has two similar designs which
has different props and characteristics. On the
left is a smart businessman, this character can
have props like a briefcase, paperwork or a
pen to click for a beat. This character could
also use speech to contribute to the music as
they could be late for a meeting. The other
style is a more casual businessman. This style
won't have as many props that they can use.
This character might look a little bit more
appealing and modern. This style will be closer
to the audiences age while the smarter style
will be older. The younger casual style could
use modern technology such as a phone or
laptop to create a beat with the tapping of
keys. Finally the look of the causal look might
class with the modern old man and teen while
the smarter look could class with the nerd.
Mood Board- Character Design #5
Modern
Mood Board-
Character Design #5
Modern
This character will be the main centered
character for the music video. These two designs
have different was to play them and different
props I can use. The image on the left is a
smarter version, wearing jeans and a top with a
shirt jacket. This design will allow me the
character to use items such as buttons/zips,
their phone and carrying an instrument to add
to the song. The other character is the same but
without a jacket. This means they won't have
buttons or a zip to use to create a beat. Out of
the two designs the smarter design will suit
walking into the scene with an item such as a
guitar or keyboard. Both character designs will
allow them to play the chosen instrument easily
and will also be able to be more active
compared to all other characters allowing them
to be the main role.
Mood Board-Creators- Rudy mancuso
Mood Board-Creators- Rudy Mancuso
In this part of the mood board I am looking
specifically at the thumbnail of Rudy
Mancuso. With this thumbnail, Rudy
Mancuso shows all three main character
with the items that they use to create the
best sound. All the items are everyday
things. I think that the thumbnail for my
video will also be important to think about
like this one. For my thumbnail I will try
include all the characters with an object
that they use to tell the audience a little
about the video. I think that by doing this It
will be more appealing to the audience.
In this part of the mood board I am looking
specifically at the content of Rudy
Mancuso. In this video, I can see the layout
of the characters. Their formation allows all
character to be seen. This is something that
I will want to bring into my video. This will
help the audience stay focused in what is
happening as they will have multiple
characters to think about. Secondly, with
this scene illustrates the characters role, for
example the man in the middle playing
piano to be the main role. This helps to
keep the focus on him as he is most active
with the audio, creating the melody which
lines up with the base.
Mood Board- Location
Mood Board-
Location
I have three possible locations to choose
from for my video. The three choices are;
bus top, elevator, waiting room. All of these
are good chose as the character can all be
there and have a reason to wait. These
character call also all be there for a while.
The bus stop and elevator have already
been used for this style of music video by
the creator. These two scenes have good
ambiance that I can use for sound effects
like the elevator voice or traffic at the bus
stop. At the waiting room this will allow all
characters to be in a line so that all
character can be easily seen. If I used this
location, I could have the same sort of set
out where I have the main character in the
middle. I can edit the background to have
posters to represent where it is set, e.g. a
bank. The other possibility is to not link it
to what they are waiting for to let the
audience decide for themselves.
Mood Board- Specific colours
Mood Board-
Specific colours
I have chosen 5 specific colors to base my
video with. The color categories are; red, light
blue, dark blue, grey and black. Each color
connect to a character. These 5 colors will be
their theme, this can include their outfit, item
that they use. The color black will be for the
goth, I will use this color for his outfit as this
will fit this character the best. Dark blue for the
businessman which will be used for his suit. I
can also look if there is any props if this color
he can use. Red for the modern teen as he can
use this color in shoes and a jacket. The jacket
can be used to create sound. Light blue for the
nerd. This color can be in his shirt or on a
booklet that he has. With the book he can use
that for sounds. Grey for the old man. This can
show his old age. The color can be used in his
hair. Finally, the color grey is a bland shade,
and this symbolizes that this character is bland.
Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated
colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
• Character position- with this there are lots of images that have the main
character in the middle. This shows to the audience that this character is
the more important one. All the other characters are positions in a
formation so that everyone can be easily seen.
• Locations- in this slide there was lots with the same layout. This allows the
audience to see the characters straight on. With the waiting room images,
they all have chairs which allow the characters to have distance so that they
don’t clash onto each other.
• Colours- I have chosen five groups of colours that I think will work best with
the characters. They all shoe three different shades of the colour which
allows me to explore through multiple different shades to make their
costume look more natural to what somebody would wear.
Character design- Nerd
Final.
For the final design of the nerd I have
decided to go for the more geek look
instead of cool nerd. This style of character
won’t fit in with the other characters. This
character will wear black glasses with a
blue shirt tucked into blue jeans. This will
show the character color. He will have
braces to look nerdier. This character will
also have multiple props that he can have.
for example he can wipe his glasses to
make a continues beat. He can also have a
a book that he turns the page of to create
a beat also. These two can be his main
beats. These can be separated with
something happening either in the scene
or from another character.
Character design- Goth
Final. For the final design of the goth I have gone
for more a traditional style. This character
will be dressed in all black. This will
include. A black t-shirt, black jacket with
zip, black long coat, black jeans and black
boots. The character style will have him
either with his hood up, or with messy
hair. This will make him more unique to
the other characters so that he doesn’t
blend in. this character can use items such
as a chain to rattle to have a background
beat or him trying to zip his jacket up. This
will also create a beat which can link to the
character being cold in the scene. Finally, I
think this design is better as this design will
work better in the scene and allow it to
look better.
Character design- Old
man final.
For the final design of the old man I have
decided to go for the more fragile look
instead of cool style. This style of character
won’t fit in with the other characters. This
character will wear round silver glasses, a
grey t-shirt with pale trousers. This look
will symbolize an old look. He will also
have pump shoes and a walking stick. This
character will be limited to items that he
can use. The main item for this character
will be his walking stick. This item will be
used as a ‘drum beat’. This will be a big
support to the song. Through the different
sections the drumbeat will change tempo
and rhythm depending on the song type/
genre.
Character design-
Business man final.
For the final design of the businessman I
have decided to go for the smarter look
instead of cool. This style of character
won’t fit in with the other characters. This
character will wear a full blue suit. This will
interact with the characters colors scheme.
This character will have a could of props
that he can use. The two main ones will be
a briefcase and pen. The briefcase can be
use as a knocking sound which will be a
sort of beat to follow. He will also use the
pen to tap and click to make a beat with
different pitched beats. This will have more
detail to the song's beats. This character
will also use his phone to create a taping
sound with the text keys for a beat.
Character design-
Modern final.
For the final design of the modern teen I
have decided to go for the smarter look
instead of cool. This style of character
won’t fit in with the other characters. This
character will a red checked shirt open
with a white shirt underneath. He will also
wear either blue or black jeans with red
high-top shoes. This look gives the
character the color scheme that I want.
This character's main prop will be a
keyboard. This character will be sat in the
middle and will create the melody for the
song. Part way through the song when an
occurrence happens in the video, this
character will change the tempo. This
character will be the last to start playing

Initial Plans for a Unique Music Video

  • 2. Initial Reaction With this project, the brief is quite open to what I am able to make. For example when I first thought about what I could make I looked back at previous projects. From my print project when I made a magazine article, I found that I really enjoyed the photoshop editing part where I could pick apart the images and turn them into something unique which you wouldn’t normally see anywhere else. During my music video project I was able to think more about what I wanted as there were a lot more possibilities for me to look into, such as the genre of music and if I wanted the video to have a story told into it. With the music video I also learnt lots of skills for the project that I am about to make. My initial thoughts to the project that I could make is a unique style of music video. In my research I will be looking at your more generic style of music video and the types of imagery that is used within them. I will also plan to start looking at the plans that I have for my designed idea. For instance, with my past music video product I can use skills video editing in my F.M.P. In this learnt about layering as I will need to specifically layer characters on to the scene in a position so that you can easily see the hierarchy of the characters. The brief plot of my music video is that I there will 3-5 character that approach a real life scenario, such as a bus stop or in an airport. When all the characters are on set they will use objects and movements to create sounds which I will overlap with specific Foley to make it clearer and crisp. The sounds that are created by there character will be used to make beats and tunes for which will layer together to make a song. Throughout the video I will get the character to use different objects and movements to create different sounds, this will change the song as in the same way that a generic song has a chorus and a verse to break it up. Depending on what scenario that I choose, I can also use things that you could hear in that location to add as a beat or to add to the song in some way. For example, if I set it in an airport then I could use the sound of the tanoid calling people to the plane as a beat to interact to the song. I will have all the characters played by myself and will record on a greenscreen so that I can easily layer the character into the specific position and location that I want. With this idea I will need to look into green screening so that I can smoothly get rid of all the green without making it look tacky. My initial thought of this without doing research into is that with premier pro once I have gotten rid of the background, to make it clearer I can feather around the character a little bit to full get rid of any green. The idea of using a greenscreen will allow me to have this scene set where ever would be best fit. This idea will also involve of lots of Foley and sound effects that I will have to make and sync up to the video. From my previous audio project, I feel confident about making the Foley. In my audio project that I have done in my first year of level 3 and my project of level 2, I will use audition to be able to fully edit every sound effect. This will allow me to specifically make it to my desire. Whilst in high school in my Music Tec course I did a project specialized in Foley. From this I will be able to find more items to use to be able to create the Foley. The second idea that I am possibly thinking to make it a similar idea of a music video. In this there will be one singular main character going on with his day. I will have a base sound/ beat which will be played throughout the video. I can use the character movement such as drinking a drink, brushing his teeth or playing a video game to add sounds to create a beat like how the first idea possibly has. This design also requires the greenscreen as I can have the character go wherever I want him to. The good thing about wanting to use greenscreen is that I can record whenever. For example if I recorded outside I would have to wait for a certain time of day and for specific weather conditions. Green screening will be something that I will need to watch some videos about in my research, with this I will be able to find out techniques and tip. I will also need to try some experiments of green screening. This could be in a format where I do before and after testers of with and without the effect. With green screening I can also have specific lighting so that the backing is all the same colours so that the finished product will look cleaner. For both of these potential ideas I will have to think about making a mock up of it on garage band. From this I can figure out what instruments I would need and the possible Foley. By having a mock up of the song that will be created, it will make the production part a lot quicker. This is something that I can look at in my research and experiments. I am wanting to make these products as it is what I feel most confident in and I believe that I it is what I will do best in. This idea that I am wanting will be more of a comedic genre as the movements will be over the top but realistic. As I am wanting to make this comedic, this will also have a light hearted mood. This will be good as I am potentially thinking of having my target audience to be male between 15 and 25. I am thinking that as I come under that age category meaning I could use myself as primary research. I can also ask fellow friends and classmates whom will be in that category to take a survey so I can see what them (as the audience) would prefer to be seen in the video, such as something relatable and trending. By knowing this, it will help my product to be more appealing to them.
  • 3. Initial Reaction- Rudy Mancuso For my product ideas, I have started to look at the creator Rudy Mancuso. He is a youtuber that makes a range of videos which covers skits, music videos and small vlogs. In this instance the music video aspect is what I am using for partial inspiration. For example on one of his videos that he has made he shows the process of a song and makes a video out of this. This interests me as it is like what I did for my music video at the start of the year. As the video goes along, you see him trying different wording to improve the song and with every combination it changes the song into something different. This idea that he has done does appeal to me and would be an idea that I would love to do and will take into consideration for this project. The videos that Rudy Mancuso creates are unique and his work is something that inspires me. After watching some of his videos, it allows me to think of different techniques that I can try out in my experiments. Lots of the music videos that he makes are for songs that he creates. Rudy Mancuso made a similar video to the ideas that I could possibly do and I will be using him and his style of music video as inspiration for my product. The main video of inspiration that Rudy has made was a skit styled music video where there five members of the public whom got stuck in an elevator. By having them there they made movements with themselves and objects to make the ‘beat’ for the song. If I choose this theme of music video I will have to make sure that my product is significantly different. This can include of being in a different setting, different style of clothing's and music, and that my storyline isn’t a copy of one of his. Will in this there will be parts of his work that I recreate to be similar in my product. For example the style of music video will be similar. Rudy Mancuso also creates of of his own audio which is something I would like to do. For his audio there are two different aspects that I will be needing to look into. Firstly is his music. With this he makes it clear that the video and music a line together. In some of his videos he uses instruments such as a guitar or piano to add detail into the video. The character that normally plays this instrument is the main character that means most to the video. This character will normally be centred in the video. The instrument normally sets the mood and changes the genre of music. For example the piano might set more of a classical tone where the guitar might be more swing. n my video I am thinking of having my characters positioned so that I can use a keyboard to add to the characters. The other part of his audio is his sound effects. The ones that can be heard in the video is Foley which amplifies it more and allows the sound effects to stand out more. I like this as it makes it sound more professional. By doing this, Rudy can make the sounds specific to how he wants. For example he can change the tempo, the pitch and the volume compared to the other audio. Finally, with Rudy Mancuso’s music he focuses on the positioning of the characters. For example the bass and character that make the beat will usually be on the outer edges of the screen. The character that changes the most/ adds the melody will normally be in the centre to show that they are more important. This kind of hierarchic is something that I would like to include in my version of the video.
  • 9. Mood Board- Character Position These three images represent the kind of positioning that I want my characters to have in my music video. For example on all three of these examples you can tell who is the main/most important character. These characters are usually shown to be the person in the center of the screen, this is as the audience will be more focused on them. The other character that are on the scene will most likely be back up dancers. On the second image, the characters to the side are being used to make movements that creates beats and small tunes for the song. This allows the focus to stay on the character in the middle who contributes to the song the most. With my video I will use this positioning. I will have the characters in an arrow formation. This will allow me to easily show all the characters clearly, not have them overlap to much as you wont be able to see their movements as well and so that it keeps the main focus to the character in the middle which will be contributing got the song the most.
  • 11. Mood Board- Character costumes In this section I have picked out five images which shows my characters best. I want my characters to have a range of age and looks. The five categories I have chosen are; Old man, businessman, goth/emo, nerd and modem day teen. As all the characters will be played by myself, this will allow the audience to easily tell the difference between all the characters. Each character will have a specific item that then can move for example the goth could jingle a chain and the nerd could be turning a page in a book. I will have the modern day teen to be the main character in the middle of the as this character will be the most relatable character that the audience can relate to, by doing this the video will be more appealing to them and they will want to watch. Finally this character may have an instrument to play to create a melody.
  • 12. Mood Board- Character Design #1 Nerd
  • 13. Mood Board- Character Design #1 nerd For this character I have come across two different styles of them. On the left is more of a stereotypical nerd look while on the right I have started looking at more of a cool looking nerd. Both styles have pros and cons. The stereotypical look will make it easier for the audience to tell the difference between the other characters. This style will also also be to use items such as suspenders and books to create sounds. The more modern style nerd will appeal to the audience more as they can relate to him better. Unfortunately, this character style is limited to items that they can use. There costume will also be similar to the modern day teen which might allow them characters to interact with each other.
  • 14. Mood Board- Character Design #2 Goth
  • 15. Mood Board- Character Design #2 goth This character has two different versions of its style that I could potentially use. On the left is more of a 2000’s looking goth. Compared to the other style this will blend into the video more and won't stand out. While the other image is more of a historic goth. The long coat and looks make the character stand out more which can be good so that the audience also notices that character. Both characters have easy props that they can use, such as a chain or bracelet. This sound can be used for a constant beat that the main character can use. The more modern goth might not be able to interact as much and might not have much of a role (musically) as they will be in the corner being ’shy’ and ‘quiet’. While the other character will be more ‘active’ with props and characters.
  • 16. Mood Board- Character Design #3 old man
  • 17. Mood Board- Character Design #3 old manThis character has two stylings that I could potentially use. The left image is a stereotypical old man where is is feebler and needs and walking stick. This idea is good as this character can use his walking stick to create a drum themed beat. This character will limit themselves to what props they can use as they won't be able to move as well. While the character on the right is more of a trendy and active old man look. This character will be able to use more props which will allow him to contribute to the song more. This character will be similar but an older version of the modern teen. This means that I won't be following my original plan to make all the look different so that the audience can easily tell the difference between them. Finally this modern character will blend in more. I am planning to try make all character stand out so that the characters are unique.
  • 18. Mood Board- Character Design #4 business man
  • 19. Mood Board- Character Design #4 Business man This character has two similar designs which has different props and characteristics. On the left is a smart businessman, this character can have props like a briefcase, paperwork or a pen to click for a beat. This character could also use speech to contribute to the music as they could be late for a meeting. The other style is a more casual businessman. This style won't have as many props that they can use. This character might look a little bit more appealing and modern. This style will be closer to the audiences age while the smarter style will be older. The younger casual style could use modern technology such as a phone or laptop to create a beat with the tapping of keys. Finally the look of the causal look might class with the modern old man and teen while the smarter look could class with the nerd.
  • 20. Mood Board- Character Design #5 Modern
  • 21. Mood Board- Character Design #5 Modern This character will be the main centered character for the music video. These two designs have different was to play them and different props I can use. The image on the left is a smarter version, wearing jeans and a top with a shirt jacket. This design will allow me the character to use items such as buttons/zips, their phone and carrying an instrument to add to the song. The other character is the same but without a jacket. This means they won't have buttons or a zip to use to create a beat. Out of the two designs the smarter design will suit walking into the scene with an item such as a guitar or keyboard. Both character designs will allow them to play the chosen instrument easily and will also be able to be more active compared to all other characters allowing them to be the main role.
  • 23. Mood Board-Creators- Rudy Mancuso In this part of the mood board I am looking specifically at the thumbnail of Rudy Mancuso. With this thumbnail, Rudy Mancuso shows all three main character with the items that they use to create the best sound. All the items are everyday things. I think that the thumbnail for my video will also be important to think about like this one. For my thumbnail I will try include all the characters with an object that they use to tell the audience a little about the video. I think that by doing this It will be more appealing to the audience. In this part of the mood board I am looking specifically at the content of Rudy Mancuso. In this video, I can see the layout of the characters. Their formation allows all character to be seen. This is something that I will want to bring into my video. This will help the audience stay focused in what is happening as they will have multiple characters to think about. Secondly, with this scene illustrates the characters role, for example the man in the middle playing piano to be the main role. This helps to keep the focus on him as he is most active with the audio, creating the melody which lines up with the base.
  • 25. Mood Board- Location I have three possible locations to choose from for my video. The three choices are; bus top, elevator, waiting room. All of these are good chose as the character can all be there and have a reason to wait. These character call also all be there for a while. The bus stop and elevator have already been used for this style of music video by the creator. These two scenes have good ambiance that I can use for sound effects like the elevator voice or traffic at the bus stop. At the waiting room this will allow all characters to be in a line so that all character can be easily seen. If I used this location, I could have the same sort of set out where I have the main character in the middle. I can edit the background to have posters to represent where it is set, e.g. a bank. The other possibility is to not link it to what they are waiting for to let the audience decide for themselves.
  • 27. Mood Board- Specific colours I have chosen 5 specific colors to base my video with. The color categories are; red, light blue, dark blue, grey and black. Each color connect to a character. These 5 colors will be their theme, this can include their outfit, item that they use. The color black will be for the goth, I will use this color for his outfit as this will fit this character the best. Dark blue for the businessman which will be used for his suit. I can also look if there is any props if this color he can use. Red for the modern teen as he can use this color in shoes and a jacket. The jacket can be used to create sound. Light blue for the nerd. This color can be in his shirt or on a booklet that he has. With the book he can use that for sounds. Grey for the old man. This can show his old age. The color can be used in his hair. Finally, the color grey is a bland shade, and this symbolizes that this character is bland.
  • 28. Mood Board Analysis Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood • Character position- with this there are lots of images that have the main character in the middle. This shows to the audience that this character is the more important one. All the other characters are positions in a formation so that everyone can be easily seen. • Locations- in this slide there was lots with the same layout. This allows the audience to see the characters straight on. With the waiting room images, they all have chairs which allow the characters to have distance so that they don’t clash onto each other. • Colours- I have chosen five groups of colours that I think will work best with the characters. They all shoe three different shades of the colour which allows me to explore through multiple different shades to make their costume look more natural to what somebody would wear.
  • 29. Character design- Nerd Final. For the final design of the nerd I have decided to go for the more geek look instead of cool nerd. This style of character won’t fit in with the other characters. This character will wear black glasses with a blue shirt tucked into blue jeans. This will show the character color. He will have braces to look nerdier. This character will also have multiple props that he can have. for example he can wipe his glasses to make a continues beat. He can also have a a book that he turns the page of to create a beat also. These two can be his main beats. These can be separated with something happening either in the scene or from another character.
  • 30. Character design- Goth Final. For the final design of the goth I have gone for more a traditional style. This character will be dressed in all black. This will include. A black t-shirt, black jacket with zip, black long coat, black jeans and black boots. The character style will have him either with his hood up, or with messy hair. This will make him more unique to the other characters so that he doesn’t blend in. this character can use items such as a chain to rattle to have a background beat or him trying to zip his jacket up. This will also create a beat which can link to the character being cold in the scene. Finally, I think this design is better as this design will work better in the scene and allow it to look better.
  • 31. Character design- Old man final. For the final design of the old man I have decided to go for the more fragile look instead of cool style. This style of character won’t fit in with the other characters. This character will wear round silver glasses, a grey t-shirt with pale trousers. This look will symbolize an old look. He will also have pump shoes and a walking stick. This character will be limited to items that he can use. The main item for this character will be his walking stick. This item will be used as a ‘drum beat’. This will be a big support to the song. Through the different sections the drumbeat will change tempo and rhythm depending on the song type/ genre.
  • 32. Character design- Business man final. For the final design of the businessman I have decided to go for the smarter look instead of cool. This style of character won’t fit in with the other characters. This character will wear a full blue suit. This will interact with the characters colors scheme. This character will have a could of props that he can use. The two main ones will be a briefcase and pen. The briefcase can be use as a knocking sound which will be a sort of beat to follow. He will also use the pen to tap and click to make a beat with different pitched beats. This will have more detail to the song's beats. This character will also use his phone to create a taping sound with the text keys for a beat.
  • 33. Character design- Modern final. For the final design of the modern teen I have decided to go for the smarter look instead of cool. This style of character won’t fit in with the other characters. This character will a red checked shirt open with a white shirt underneath. He will also wear either blue or black jeans with red high-top shoes. This look gives the character the color scheme that I want. This character's main prop will be a keyboard. This character will be sat in the middle and will create the melody for the song. Part way through the song when an occurrence happens in the video, this character will change the tempo. This character will be the last to start playing
