2. I made a media campaign for my short film Concert Crime. I created 3 products to promote and advertise my
film: a poster, a radio advert, and 2 social media pages.
For my poster, I used Photoshop to edit a picture of my main actor Matthew Hackett and to include/edit text.
Photoshop was the best and most suitable program for this.
For my radio advert, I used Audacity to record my voice and Premiere Pro to edit it with the music.
Finally, for my social media pages, I used Twitter. This was because I believe Twitter is the easiest app to come
across things like new movies because people tend to tweet about more realtime things such as what movie
they just saw at the cinema or what restaurant they just ate at, unlike Instagram where majority of people use it
for things like modelling.
I had a plan for my timeline from the beginning. I started by creating my social media pages, I had one for Lil
Hacky (like a personal account, but not really because he doesnโt actually exist) where I would tweet normal
things as if he was a real person. Then, I stopped tweeting on that account and, a few months later, I tweeted on
the Concert Crime film twitter โHas anyone seen Lil Hacky?โ to create suspense. Then, I would post the poster
and radio advert once they were ready.
3. Feedback
I showed my 3 products to friends and family and I got some good feedback. They understood what I was trying to
promote and they understand when the release date is as I mentioned it clearly in every product. The poster helped them
to understand the genre of the film due to the colour scheme and the outfit used by the actor in the poster. However,
when I asked them if my products created enough mystery to intrigue them and convince them to go see the movie, they
said no. This is because I donโt think I gave away enough of the plot to make people want to know what happens next.
For example, my radio ad says Lil Hacky has been kidnapped, but thatโs about as much detail as it goes into. As well as
this, they did not know who the cast were. If I were to do this again I would make sure to put the actors names on the
poster, especially the main stars. I would also go more in-depth about the plot in the radio ad, but still without giving away
the entire thing. My family and friends liked the social media page I made for Lil Hacky because it was giving the
character a personality and making him real, but they thought I couldโve done more with the Concert Crime Twitter
account, which I agree with. For example, I couldโve tweeted more teasers about the film to gain more attraction and
create more mystery to intrigue my audience.
Overall, I have learned that I need to focus more on creating mystery to intrigue the audience by going more in-depth
about the plot rather than just saying Lil Hacky was kidnapped by gang members, because this could sound boring and
repetitive to a lot of people.
4. I started my campaign by creating two Twitter accounts. The first one was for Lil Hacky, the main character of
my film, to make him feel real and give him a personality which I think was very successful in my campaign. I
made another account for the film where I posted things about the film. I donโt think this was as successful as the
other account because I believe I couldโve put more effort into posting more stuff like teasers for the film to
create mystery and intrigue the audience. Next, I created a poster. I think the poster was very successful as it
showed the genre of the film and the general gist of what itโs about. Only thing I think I couldโve done better is
mention the actors names somewhere in the poster, especially the main star. Finally, I created a radio advert
using an app called Audacity to record my voice and Premiere Pro to put it together with the music. I think this
was successful although I believe I couldโve said more about the film since I didnโt give away much of the plot
meaning it may not intrigue a lot of the audience.
I think my campaign does achieve its purpose because it successfully advertised the film showing the genre and
a summary of the plot.
I really wanted to create a trailer for the film using Premiere Pro but due to lockdown that was impossible since I
didnโt have the footage for the film yet. However, I think my timeline worked well and was successful and apart
from being unable to create a trailer, I felt comfortable and happy with the products I chose to create.
