1. Will and Chris Music Video (2010-11)
As soon as the song starts to become
up beat he stands up which is a good
link with the song pace and the visuals
reflecting back to Goodwin’s 7
theories. The lamppost which is
lighting up his location is acting as if it’s
a spotlight and he is singing
underneath it which is drawing the
audience towards him as the main
character.
At this point he is supposed to be lip
sinking to the song but we can hardly
see him singing. Also when he turns he
doesn’t put much effort into it. The
song is upbeat and his singing, actions
and mannerism should be upbeat with
it but unfortunately its not. The way he
is dressed should show the fact that he
is a confident ladies man but instead
his body language is quite enclosed
and shut.
As the lyrics say ‘Christmas lights’ it
shows some Christmas lights in a town.
I like this link between lyrics and
visuals and as a group we are
considering using this technique as it
engages the audience and connects
both the song and the visuals together
as one.
2. I don’t like how they have got a lens
flare from the car light in the
background because the focus then
comes away from the boy and goes to
the car light instead. The attention
should stay on the boy as he is the
singer and is carrying the narrative
forward through the song. As a group
we are going to make sure there isn’t
any unnecessary things in the
background and that the focus stays on
the couple by creating strong
directional lighting.
The lip sinking is slightly off and most
of the shots are similar camera angles
which makes the narrative boring and
disengages the audience. Within our
music video we want to use a range of
camera angles so that it keeps the
audience entertained and amused.
The camera is quite shaky at points
which makes it hard to know what the
boy is doing and where the storyline is
going. Although as this is more
performance based the boy could have
held an instrument and played along
with the song. They could have even
blurred in and out a band playing to
the song on a stage to create more of a
structure to the visuals. I think this
would have looked effective. As a
group I think that we would do this in
our music video but we have decided
that because our song is so unique it
will be most effective to have a
concept based music video.
