2. COME GROW WITH US!
very year on the third weekend of May,
MotherShip Foundation celebrates
Louisiana’s music, art, food, and culture
through its Mid-City BayouBoogaloo
Festival, which takes place along the
historic and beautiful urban waterway of
Bayou St. John. The festival features four
live music stages, exploring New Orlean ‘s
musical roots in blues, jazz, zydeco, Cajun,
funk, hip hop, and rock. Families are made
welcome with a kid’s stage for children’s
entertainment and activities for all ages. The
Bayou Boogaloo Art Market offers original
works of art in a variety of genres from 60 of
Louisiana’s most celebrated artisans. The festival also
boasts 30 Louisiana food vendors, serving a plethora of original recipes
and traditional New Orleans cuisine.
MotherShip Founation has produced The Bayou Boogaloo since 2006,
experiencing tremendous growth each year and becoming recognized as
Mid-City’s highest quality, free three-day festival. Over the past 11 years, the
festival has featured Grammy award winners such as Irma Thomas (Soul),
Lowrider Band (Rock/World Fusion), The Wailers (Reggae), Beausoliel avec
Michael Doucet (Cajun), Grupo Fantasma (Latin), and Terrence Simien (Zydeco),
along with local favorites such as Cyril Neville & Tribe 13 (R&B), Walter
”Wolfman” Washington (Blues), Mannie Fresh (Hip Hop), and Big Chief Bo Dollis
& the Wild Magnolia’s (Mardi Gras Indian Funk). By featuring New Orleans’s
diverse musical traditions, cuisine, and art in a family friendly environment,
The Bayou Boogaloo has grown to attract an average of 35,000 people
annually, with 84% of visitors coming from the Greater New Orleans area, 2%
from within Louisiana and 14% from other states. Within New Orleans, locals
consider The Bayou Boogaloo to be one of the city’s signature events and a
highlight of the annual festival calendar. Offbeat Magazine, which is considered
to be “the music resource” of Louisiana, voted Bayou Boogaloo “Best
Neighborhood Festival” in 2010, 2014, and 2015. MotherShip Foundation has
also received a proclamation from the City of New Orleans for producing an
economically and environmentally sustainable event.
We hope the following pages not only excite you, but also present a valuable
