combination of products, stock availability, application and technical support. Hawco has a turnover of circa £20m split
70% to OEM customers and 30% to contractors.
I am responsible for managing key and new supplier relationships, including market and trading condition updates,
forecasts (working closely with the Managing Director and sales teams), listening to customer requirements and
developing and integrating new and innovative product lines including organising product training sessions for sales
and technical staff. I work closely with the Managing Director on strategic planning initiatives and liaise with the
Marketing Manager compiling technical and commercial information for promotions, campaigns, website and
catalogues. I am responsible for producing monthly management update reports and presenting product management
reports at quarterly board meetings.
Aug 2006 – June 2015 Product/Category Manager Wolseley UK
Wolseley UK (part of Wolseley Plc) is the world’s largest builder’s merchants and the parent company of Plumb, Pipe,
Climate, Parts, and Drain Centers as well as numerous other companies. It has a turnover in excess of £14 billion
with £1.2 billion in the UK.
I was responsible for the sourcing and supply of all forms of Air conditioning and Refrigeration equipment. I project
managed the introduction of a range of products which saw the revenue grow from circa £40m in 2010 to £68m in
2014. My position required the development of relationships with both national and international suppliers and
ensuring they understand and meet the service requirements. I was also responsible for the monitoring of financial
and other product performance targets and, where appropriate, initiating action plans to ensure those targets were
met. From 2012 I was working closely with the sales team to align supplier promotions with branch and customer
benefits. This has included presentations, sales meetings and joint visits to the customer base.
Mar 2005 – June 2006 Purchasing Manager York International Parts Group
York International is a world leader in the manufacture of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment with a turnover
of £5 billion. The parts group contributes £16 million with an operating profit of £6 million.
I was responsible for all aspects of purchasing including outsourcing of components originally used in manufactured
products, with major vendors in Europe, America (north and south) as well as Thailand and China. With a small team
based in the UK and mainland Europe, I was responsible for motivating and encouraging their development, enabling
them to confidently cope with all aspects of the purchasing role and to provide positive support for the customer
services team. I prepared and presented weekly and monthly reports for team, management and board members.
Through negotiation, localisation and improved vendor on time performance I realised a £200k cost savings per
annum and negotiated with major vendors to enable direct shipment of product to customers, with York packaging
and paperwork.
Sept 2002 – Mar 2005 Senior Buyer York International Parts Group
Responsible for 200+ vendors but through rationalisation and vendor agreements I reduced this to 154 whilst ensuring
that product and service was supported for a minimum of 10, and in some cases, over 50 years. Through
demonstrated commitment to customers and strong leadership I achieved promotion to Purchasing Manager.
Aug 1999 - Aug 2002 Purchasing Officer Sony UK (Pencoed)
Aug 1999 In charge of all aspects of mechanical purchasing, from sourcing of tool manufacturers and supplier
allocation, to conducting cost down negotiations, material strategy and supplier rationalisation. Instigated new
strategies involving cost down agreements with major international suppliers utilising a spend of £27 million, as well
as many first tier principles.
Jan 2000 Assigned overall control of the mechanical logistics department, from planning to line side delivery.
Dec 2000 Due to a major change in policy worldwide, I was assigned the procurement of designer TV stands,
which increased my annual spend by circa £10 million.
Jan 2001 I took over the leadership of the worldwide cost initiative program PHOENIX, which combined the
ideas from all the Sony plants to achieve a common cost target. (See Awards).
Aug 1998 – Aug 1999 Product Controller Hamworthy, Belliss & Morcom
My main areas of responsibility were the effective management of purchasing; expediting and work order sections of
the P.E.T. materials group, whilst ensuring that material supply achieved the monthly sales and parts sales. Specific
tasks included managing all related production departments in accordance with budgeted costs, monthly sales,
monthly cash flow and HCS quality and safety procedures. I increased output by 25%, whilst reducing stock by £2
million.
2. June 1997 – Aug 1998 Senior Buyer Hamworthy, Belliss & Morcom
I was overseeing cost reduction schemes, achieving a net annual saving of 3.5% on a £10 million spend. Created a
scheduling system with key suppliers, whereby specific kits were delivered for designated compressors thus reducing
stock and transportation costs. I instigated a series of cost reductions on a range of procured parts and several
resource contracts, creating a further saving of 4% on an £6 million spend, whilst systematically reducing the supplier
base.
Sept 1994 – June 1997 Buyer Sauer Sundstrand
Sauer Sundstrand are the world’s largest manufacturer and supplier of hydraulic pumps, motors and hydrostatics,
with worldwide sales of nearly £400 million. The Swindon site, where I was employed, had a turnover in excess of £50
million and employed 450 personnel. Employed as a Buyer with a multi million pound budget, responsible for all
materials, fastenings, turned parts and consumables, purchased nationally and internationally, as well as from sub-
contractors. I was also responsible for term contract negotiations and required to maintain and update the supplier
base using multi computer systems while identifying opportunities for cost savings wherever possible.
