3. Cystic fibrosis
The Colton Underwood Legacy Foundation encourages youth participation in athletics and
provides resources for research and support of people living with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). The
Legacy Foundation hosts annual football camps and other events to raise money for the cause
and spread awareness. In addition, the Foundation plans to implement scholarships to youth
living with Cystic Fibrosis. The scholarships will facilitate advanced education and lessen the
burden of additional costs incurred living with the disease.
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. People
diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis have persistent lung infections and their ability to breathe is
limited over time. In the United States more than 30,000 children and adults are affected by
Cystic Fibrosis.
New treatments for those with CF are available thanks to doctors, scientists and generous
donors who support research. These advancements have added decades to the life expectancy
of those diagnosed with CF since the first treatments introduced in the 1950s. Today, the
median age of survival is more than 40 years.
Pairing youth athletics and fundraising opportunities to benefit the
research and support of people living with Cystic Fibrosis is the reason
why The Colton Underwood Legacy Foundation was created. “Bringing
kids together to play and learn new skills in their sport while working
together to raise money for CF charities brings a whole new meaning
to teamwork.”

Colton Underwood was born and raised in Washington, Illinois.
Active in football and other sports throughout his childhood, Colton
learned early on the value in team work, discipline and community.
Today, Colton is a member of the Oakland Raiders and has
established the Colton Underwood Legacy Foundation to carry on
his passion for community. The Foundation serves to promote
youth sports and benefit the research and support of those living
with Cystic Fibrosis.
Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and
digestive system, is a cause close to Colton’s heart – his cousin,
Harper, was diagnosed with CF at birth.

I’m so grateful to so many for the outpouring of time, energy and money in support of the Legacy Foundation.
First and foremost, thanks and love to Harper Hawksworth. She’s my inspiration. She’s tough, determined and
hardworking – all necessary qualities for her to stay healthy and happy. I started this Foundation for Harper and
I’m growing it for everyone else just like her. I want desperately to see a cure for Cystic Fibrosis in my lifetime.
Together we can make that happen.
Thanks to all of my family, friends, the city of Washington, the Legacy Foundation Board of Directors, our football
camp planning team and the Legacy Gala planning team. I’ve seen so much generosity, love and patience from
all the people who have helped make the Legacy Foundation a reality.
Thank you, also, to each of you who are part of the inaugural Legacy Gala. I had a vision for
this event long ago – an event full of fun and friends, music and good food, and most
importantly shared information regarding Cystic Fibrosis and lots of generous donations
to help support research for effective and long-term treatments.
