It discusses CPA's Waterbury Alternative in the Community program that helps women through a case management model. WATERBURY AIC HELPSWOMEN FEEL “WOCM”
WOCM stands for “Women Offender Case Management” Model, but it also stands for
“Welcome”. The program model provides a welcoming, holistic approach to support that is
tailored towards women. CPA was one of four organizations that piloted WOCM in 2007 for
CT’s Court Support Services Division (CSSD). Linda, a current WOCM participant who is
having a positive experience in the program said “Yesenia is always available if I need help or
need to talk to her. She has helped me to set goals, and realize my self-worth--- that I don’t
have to settle for less.”
Yesenia Arrieta, a Case Manager at CPA’s Waterbury Alternative (WAIC) in the Community
Program, along with WOCM Probation Officers Lauren Vicente and Megan Clifford, were
recently given a Role Model WOCM Teaming Award by Community Solutions (CSI) a
CSSD funded Quality Assurance Team, for their positive impact on the women they have
helped to successfully complete their goals. Yesenia was one of 10 CPA staff recognized
at CSI’s Spring 2014 Award Forum (see page 7).

APRIL 2014 WAS NATIONAL VOLUNTEER MONTH!
CPA is grateful for the many churches, community organizations and employers that dedicate hundreds of volunteer
hours to CPA. Their commitment is making an important impact on the adults and youth CPA serves. Here are just a
few examples of CPA’s volunteers at work:
LaReese Harvey, CPA Board Member and
Director of Strategic Relations at the A Better
Way Foundation, volunteered to create information
brochures and train our staff about signing up
participants for health insurance under the Affordable
Care Act. Her assistance led to several men and
women getting insurance, with even more expected to
sign up during the next open enrollment.

Historian, participated in a panel at the
Seventh Annual Prison Ministry Forum “Hope
is On The Horizon”, hosted by Christ Church
Cathedral in Hartford. They were invited to
participate by Laird Mortimer, a long-time CPA
supporter. Rev. Bates is currently writing the
history of CPA from 1875 to today.
The Hartford Federal Credit Union recently began conducting on-site
information sessions at our Hartford Work Release Program. The sessions are
about banking, which is new to many of the men who have never used a bank.
The staff explains how to set up their savings account and how to deposit and
withdraw their funds. Each participant completes their account form that day so
they will be prepared when they go to open their account.
Guilford Church: Staff and clients from our Resettlement Program
attended the Palm Sunday service at Guilford Church. The church is a
2012 CPA Honoree that was recognized for its years of support and
volunteerism for the Resettlement Program. Brenda Williams, who is in
the program, spoke to the congregation. The church donated hygiene
bags that are a significant help to the women who have just been
released from York Correctional Institution.

TEN AIC STAFF MEMBERS RECEIVE
STATEWIDE QUALITY ASSURANCE AWARDS
The awards were given by Community Solutions, who runs the QA
Program for Connecticut’s Court Support Services Division.
POND HOUSE CAFÉ EVENT RAISES OVER $2,700
The Pond House donated 100% of the proceeds from its 15th
Anniversary to the
Resettlement Program. Pond House owner Louis Lista was a 2013 CPA Honoree who
was recognized for hosting the Annual Resettlement Halloween Brunch for many years
and for his continued support of CPA and its clients.
NEW PROGRAM MANAGER FOR WASHINGTON ST.
PROGRAM FOR GIRLS
CPA congratulates Chave Lyons, the new Program Manager for the Washington Street
Secure Community Residential Program for Girls (WSSCRP). Chave had been serving as
the acting Program Manager since January 2014.

GRACE PROGRAM FOR GIRLS FEATURED
AT NON-PROFIT DAY
Non-Profit Days are held at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford and
are organized by CT Nonprofits.
TICKETS FOR KIDS DONATES OVER 560 EVENT TICKETS!
Since January 2013 Tickets for Kids has donated over $16,000 in event tickets
to CPA. The tickets allowed youth in our GRACE, BRAVE and SOAR Commu-
nity Residential Programs to attend shows and games in the area. We also want
to thank the Bushnell, CCSU and UConn Athletics and the XL Center for sup-
porting this unique foundation.
