Outlook Conversion Is Over
Halfway Complete
We are over halfway complete with migrating to our new email platform, Outlook.
While many of you are enjoying the new email platform, we have heard from some
users that they are missing information in Outlook. IT understands that old email is
important, and they have developed a plan to keep old Lotus Notes/iNotes messages
around for a while. If you notice missing content after you’ve moved to Outlook, call
the IT service desk at ext. 4330. For tips and answers to FAQs, visit iGenesis > IT Help >
Office 365.
Environmental Services is Enlisting You
Environmental Services wants you to participate in an “Always Clean is Everyone’s
Responsibility” awareness campaign Monday, Sept. 24, through Friday, Sept. 28.

employee keeping an area tidy by cleaning spills or picking up trash. These vouchers will
be placed into a drawing for prizes. The nominating housekeeper will also receive a
prize if their “Friend of Housekeeping” wins a prize in the drawing. Share the
responsibility, and help us by keeping your area neat, clean and safe. For more

18Genesis Gives Back
Millions to Our
Community
Genesis is a nonprofit, mission-driven
health system dedicated to giving
back to our community as a core part
of our mission. Every year Genesis
provides millions of dollars of
community support, in many different
ways, to meet the health care needs of every citizen in our
service area. I want you, as Genesis owners, to know how
much we give back to our community and the numerous
ways we do so.
As the largest employer in our region, Genesis is also far and
away the largest charitable giver. Genesis gives back more than
any other entity in our six-county service area. There are four
main ways Genesis gives back to our community: 1) Funding
the payment shortfall to care for patients who have Medicaid
insurance, 2) Charity care, 3) Health screenings, programs,
classes, etc., 4) Community sponsorships. Let’s look at each
of these:
1.Medicaid: 33 percent of the residents of our six-county
service area use Medicaid for their health insurance.
Medicaid is so underfunded by the state and federal
governments that Genesis is reimbursed only 69 percent of
our cost to provide this care. Last year Genesis lost $38
million caring for patients with Medicaid insurance. This
represents an enormous way Genesis gives back to our
community, by providing care to the most vulnerable, lowest
income 33 percent of our residents.
2.Charity Care: Last year 2,479 patients sought care at Genesis
who did not have any form of insurance or their insurance left
them with an out-of-pocket balance they could not pay. Our
cost of providing this free care was $1.6 million.
3.Health screenings, programs, etc.: Last year, 74,804 people
benefited from clinical screenings, self-help programs, events
to increase awareness of health issues, classes to restore,
maintain and learn ways to improve health; and support
groups. Genesis provided these services free to our
community, and we spent $2.4 million to cover the cost of
doing so.

Keep Your Eyes on the Road
Not on Your Phone
Genesis HealthCare System welcomed the AT&T It Can Wait campaign,
which reminds drivers that distracted driving is never OK. The virtual
reality experience was in the lobby of the HealthPlex to allow employees
and visitors to see what it’s like to come face to face with the very real
dangers of distracted driving.
Nearly 9-in-10 people engage in smartphone activities while driving. But
when you’re behind the wheel, they can put you and everyone else on
the road in danger. Genesis cares about our employees and our
community – please remember It Can Wait, and don’t text and drive.

Genesis Gives Back Millions to
Our Community
4. Community sponsorships: Each year we receive hundreds of
requests for donations from various organizations. Last year Genesis
contributed over $68,600 to sponsor, support and/or donate to nearly
50 events, programs, organizations, schools, foundations and chambers
of commerce, just to name a few. The money we give helps support
other nonprofit organizations in Zanesville and
surrounding communities.
I think the impact Genesis makes in our community is priceless. The
compassion we put into our care comes from each of you. Thank you
for the time you give to the classes, events and programs that we
provide. And thank you for your involvement in the community we
serve and support to sponsorships and donations. Help us spread the
word about how much in the many, many ways Genesis gives back to
our community. Together we make a difference!

Environmental Services
Environmental Services is more than housekeeping. The
department’s mindset and motto is they are a front-line team as
infection prevention specialists.
Environmental Services is part of the Support Services
Department and is located by maintenance and the loading
dock at Genesis Hospital. This department has 112 staff
members with diverse responsibilities in the hospital, Behavior
Health and the Genesis Perry County Medical Center.
The role of housekeeping at Genesis is to ensure that all areas,
including examination and surgery rooms, patients’ rooms,
laboratories and public areas are kept clean and sanitary.
Common hospital housekeeping duties include mopping,
vacuuming and sweeping floors; cleaning windows and dusting
furniture; washing and changing linens on patients’ beds; and
ensuring that all waste is disposed of properly. The staff also may
need to empty trash cans, replace the supplies in bathrooms
and relocate items around as needed. Their cleaning duties
require a lot of time standing, bending and lifting, so being
physically able to perform these tasks is essential. Environmental
Services staff also operate equipment to scrub and clean floors.
Environmental Services takes pride in their standards and are
happy and willing to assist Genesis staff and hospital guests in
any way and with a cheerful smile. If there are hospital tasks,
such as any patient room needs like temperature adjustments,
cleanliness, TV issues, beds, chairs, other furniture not
functioning properly, blinds not working, lighting, or security
issues, call ext. 5900 to dispatch Environmental Services staff.
For more information, call Anita Richards, department assistant,
at ext. 4733. The main line for the department is ext. 4707.

DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHT
Wellness Forms Due Sept. 30
By Stephen Ulrich, M.D.
MedicalDirector,WellnessWins
Fall is a busy season, getting children back to school,
fulfilling our own education requirements and many
other obligations. It’s easy for our health goals to take a
back seat to our busy schedules. Fast food here, a few less hours sleep
there and soon we are overweight and out of shape.
Our health often suffers when we delay good intentions of exercise and
healthy eating. Deadlines are at times inconvenient (this article was
written at 5 a.m. the day of the deadline) but they do force us to come to
grips with tasks delayed. Fall is a good time to take pleasant walks and
contemplate our goals for healthy living.
Remember to submit your Wellness Initiative form to receive an
insurance premium discount or Wellness Bucks for 2019. We accept the
Wellness Initiative forms electronically through MyChart. At a recent
Wellness department meeting we reviewed applications. Most of them
had been submitted by paper. It is much easier for the Wellness staff and
the employees to use MyChart to submit the reports. Wellness Initiative
forms are due by Sunday, Sept. 30. If you have questions about how to
submit the form, call the Wellness staff at ext. 5550.
Light the Night Walk
Genesis is a proud sponsor of the annual Light the Night event hosted

Campus. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m., and the event kicks off
at 7:45 p.m.
The walk funds treatments that are saving the lives of patients today. LLS
is making cures happen by providing patient support services,
advocating for lifesaving treatments and pioneering the most promising
cancer research anywhere. To register a team or individuals, or for more
information, visit lightthenight.org/events/Zanesville.

Credit Union News
Be Aware of Credit/Debit Card Scams
The Genesis Employee Credit Union (GECU) has tips to help
you avoid having your credit/debit card compromised.
• Do not give your credit/debit card number to anyone who calls you or
contacts you through the internet without first researching
the company.
• Be aware of who is around you and keep your card
information hidden.
• Use your chip card in a chip card reader and try not to run your chip
card through a swipe reader. You are more likely to be compromised
when running your card through a swipe card reader.
• If you plan to leave the state, notify your financial institution so they
don’t block your card for an out-of-state transaction.
For more information, call the Credit Union at ext. 4603 or stop by our
office at 860 Bethesda Drive, Building 2. The office is open Monday
through Thursday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday until 5 p.m.
