A Critique of the Proposed National Education Policy Reform
LUNGS ANATOMY AND ITS CLINICAL ASPECTS.pptx
1. LUNGS ANATOMY
pair of spongy organs within the thoracic cavity that facilitate gaseous exchange.
Parts of the lungs :-Apex and base
Borders-Anterior
posterior
inferior
Surface –Costal
medial (mediastinal and vertebral)
diaphragmatic
Fissures-Left lung – oblique
Right lung - oblique and horizontal
2. The left lung
Fissure:-oblique fissure
Lobes:-
inferior lobe - posteroinferior with respect to the oblique fissure
superior lobe- is anterosuperior to the fissure.
The inferior lobe is much larger than the superior lobe
Hilum of the left lung
HEART
AORTIC ARCH
THORACIC AORTA
ESOPHAGOUS
3. The Right lung
slightly shorter and wider than the left lung
Fissures oblique fissure
horizontal fissure
Lobes
superior lobe :-located above the horizontal fissure and anterosuperior to the oblique fissure
middle lobe :- smallest of the three right lung lobes
inferior lobe:-It is situated behind the oblique fissure.
4. Hilum of the right lung
HEART
INFERIOR VENA CAVA
SUPERIOR VENA CAVA
AZYGOUS VEIN
ESOPHAGOUS
5. Vasculature of Lungs
2 sets of Blood Supply
Pulmonary vessels:- for the gaseous exchange
Bronchial vessels:- for blood supply to lung substance like any other organs
PULMONARY VESSELS
Pulmonary Artery:- carries unoxygenated blood from heart to the lung
Each artey gives lobar and segmental arteries
Pulmonary vein:- Carries oxygenated blood from lungs to the heart
6. BRONCHIAL VESSELS
BRONCHIAL ARTERIES:- CARRY OXYGENATED BLOOD TO TISSUE OF THE LUNGS.
LEFT BRONCHIAL ATERIES ARISE FROM THORACIC AORTA
RIGHT BRONCHIAL ARTERY ARISE FROM 3RD POSTERIOR INTERCOSTAL ARTERY
BRONCHIAL VEIN:- drain to azygous and accessory hemiazygous veins
7. ROOTS OF THE LUNGS
a principal bronchus on one side
the eparterial and hyparterial bronchus on the other side
one pulmonary artery
two pulmonary veins (superior and inferior)
bronchial arteries (one on one side, and two on the other side)
bronchial veins
anterior and posterior pulmonary nerve plexuses
Lymphatics
bronchopulmonay lymph nodes
areolar tissue
8. ARRANGMENTS
Ant. To Post.:-
pulmonary artery
Bronchus
Superior pulmonary vein
ABOVE TO DOWNWARD
Right side :-Eparterial bronchus
pulmonary artery
hyparterial bronchus
inferior pulmonary vein
LEFT SIDE :-Pulmonary artery
Bronchus
Inferior pulmonary vein
9. CLINICAL ASPECTS
Pleural effusion:-Fluid collects in the space between lung and the chest wall.
Mesothelioma:-This is a rare form of cancer that forms on the pleura
10. Pneumoconiosis:-Category of conditions caused by inhaling something that
injures your lungs.
Pulmonary embolism:- a blood clot that blocks and stops blood flow to an artery in
the lung.
