Objective of our project

What is our final product?

Our thought process
Lit. Review
Why will teenagers be attracted?
Objective of our project
To show that fairy tales are still relevant to teen’s lives as
they contain values they can learn from.
What have we changed?
Based on the judges comments, we have changed...
1. Changed our approach towards our presentation (Less Lit.
review)
2. Our final product in general (Choices, etc.)
3. Included how our Literature review on other fairy tales led
to the creation of ours
WHAT is our final product?
Our final product is a fairy tale targeted
for teenagers
> Product will be printed out in the form of a mini story book
> Interactive storyline
General overview on our story
Plot
Set in Singapore, dating hundreds of years back
Humans and animals once lived in harmony
War broke out due to conflicts concerning land borders
The reader takes on the role of Awang, an adventurer who seeks to bring an
end to the war between humans and animals
The reader will decide what path Awang takes in the story, and ultimately
decide the ending of the story
Example of choices in story
……You stood at the forest grounds, contemplating on what to do. Do you...
Choice(?)
1. Approach the animals directly. (Turn to paragraph X)
2. Try to talk with smaller animals and find out what exactly is happening. (Turn to paragraph Y
3. Try to approach the king to find out what happened. (Turn to paragraph Z)
Each choice leads the reader down a different path, which leads to other
choices that the reader has to make
All the reader’s choice ultimately lead to an ending
At some point the reader may have a turning point to direct them away from the
distant bad ending
WHY is our project special?
First person view
> Makes reader engaged in our fairy tale
The reader will have to make choices as he reads, and the
choices he makes affects the future story and the ending
> Allows reader to think and reflect on his decisions
throughout the book
Based on local setting
> Makes the reader feel ‘relatable’
Our thinking process…
Why we did what we did
Why fairy tales?
Fairy tales allow us to be more creative, as they are usually a fictional story in a
fantasy world. Unlike fictional stories, fairy tales usually have morals which readers
can learn from.
Why did we decide to implement choices?
This is why our product is special. With the implementation of choices, our readers
will feel more immersed into the fairy tale, as they will have think about the
decisions they make and also reflect on their decisions throughout the story.
Why is our fairy tale not too lengthy?
Our product is targeted at teenagers, who have a busy schedule, thus we have
decided to make it a short fairy tale which they can read in their free time.
How our literature analysis led to our final product
Literature Analysis
Analysed fairy tales from around the world to find common features
These common features are used as a reference for our final product
Analysed local stories to find how local elements are weaved into a story
We analysed…
Setting
Character traits
Character and plot development
Morals of the story and how they are implemented
Morals observed in fairy tales
In the fairy tales that we have analysed, such as Little Red Riding Hood and
Cinderella, we have noticed the same trend that they all have certain morals that
the author wants to portray to the readers.
These include :
○ Honesty - Pinnochio
○ Fidelity - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
○ Filial piety - Beauty and the beast
Fantasy worlds
Fairy tales usually take place in fantasy worlds, with fantasy characters, such as
talking animals or talking plants.
Literature review
● Morals taught based on choices made in our fairy tale
○ Do not lie
○ Do not get overly curious and put yourself at risk
○ Make smart decisions based on the situation
○ Do not get impatient and rash
○ Do not be over-cowardly
Why will teenagers be attracted to our product
Ideas to consider
A bit of violence (mature content)
The reader may have to use critical thinking to figure out which option
they should choose
Some of the morals in the story have require a bit of analysis as the
writing style may hide the morals
Tips to reading our creative product
Do not stop reading once you have reached a certain ending be it good or bad
There are different choices which will lead to different storylines and ultimately
different endings
Do not cheat! (place a finger at the page where the reader initiated the choice)
Consider your choice thoroughly and predict the outcome of the choice selected
before making your choice to prevent from going into the bad endings
Do not get frustrated by not reaching a good conclusion for the ending as you
may reach it eventually after a few tries
Our reflections
Min Guanlin
Throughout this project i’ve learnt many different skills such as time management,
work planning and the importance of communicating with your teammates. The
project we did was tough but we managed to pull through. We did not plan as
efficiently and i want to improve on that next year. I also felt that we did not too
much planning so we didn’t have enough time to improve our product and project
further.
Avin Chan
The project was a very meaningful experience and I learnt and built on many skills
such as creative writing, time management and so on. Though we faced many
difficulties while creating our final product, we managed to press on and finish it. At
times, we may even be unable to meet up to work on the final product as we were
busy with schoolwork or other matters.
I especially found trouble writing the story since I found myself running out of ideas
very often and had to consult my teammates for help, but in the end, I was able to
finish with the help of my teammates. I hope that I can go through more of such
meaningful experiences in the future.
Tan Yee Hoong
Over this course of this project, I have learnt how to organize a team well. Besides
that, I have learnt how to get my teammates into doing a project together. I also
learnt how to manage my time well
. I have to pour in time doing project while preparing for the EOYS. Overall, the
project has helped nurture me to become a better person.

  • 21. Min Guanlin Throughout this project i’ve learnt many different skills such as time management, work planning and the importance of communicating with your teammates. The project we did was tough but we managed to pull through. We did not plan as efficiently and i want to improve on that next year. I also felt that we did not too much planning so we didn’t have enough time to improve our product and project further.
  • 22. Avin Chan The project was a very meaningful experience and I learnt and built on many skills such as creative writing, time management and so on. Though we faced many difficulties while creating our final product, we managed to press on and finish it. At times, we may even be unable to meet up to work on the final product as we were busy with schoolwork or other matters. I especially found trouble writing the story since I found myself running out of ideas very often and had to consult my teammates for help, but in the end, I was able to finish with the help of my teammates. I hope that I can go through more of such meaningful experiences in the future.
