3. In pairs, think about and record answers to
the following - who are you?
● Your favourite book;
● write down the one thing you
love most;
● write down the one thing you
fear most;
● write down one interesting
fact about you...
4. What are
we doing?
Where are
we going?
This semester, we have one objective - to produce
a carefully crafted, extended piece of writing - this
could be a short story, a poem, a novel - anything
that is original, so let’s have….
5. Semester
layout
Part 1: Novel & Short Story Study;
○ “If you want to be a great writer, you must do
two things to be above all others: read a lot and
write a lot.” - Stephen King
○ Focus on the work of great writers (including
Hemingway, Nabokov and Kafka…).
Part 2: Writing;
○ “Start writing, no matter what. The water does
not flow until the faucet is turned on.” - Louis
L’Amour
○ Short & extended writing activities.
6. Requirements
1. Come prepared & participate
in discussions on readings.
2. Keep a writer’s word journal.
3. Complete at least one
extended individual creative
writing piece.
Most importantly...have fun 👏
14. Over to you…
Using one of the images we have appraised,
create a paragraph which describes the image,
or sets the scene for a narrative (story). Make
sure you use some of the vocabulary (the word
wall!) you have come up with!
Stretch and challenge - if you
can, consider and apply: imagery;
personification; similes;
metaphors...
E.g. The walls crumbled slightly
as the elderly man stroked the
brittle surroundings.
15. ABCDE Self-
reflection
Think about what we have completed today
and consider the following:
Activity - what have you done today?
Benefits - what have you learnt from this?
Complications - what didn’t go so well? What
do you need to improve on next time?
Developments - what will you do differently
next time? What could you have changed
about today?
Enjoyment - did you enjoy the activities? 😀
Editor's Notes
Introduce who you are, some stuff about yourself that you can try to make interesting but not too personal
Lead onto asking ‘Does anyone fear not doing well in English?’
In groups of four you allocated earlier, provide flip chart and ask the groups to split the sheet into 4 sections. Group task is to have 4-5 mins on each image from the board (change these images if you like on your own copy of the slides) in which they must write down as many words/phrases that they can to help describe what they see or their ideas/inspirations based on the images.
DA: Learners to chose one of the images and create a short story about it. Advise them that you will be marking this for SPAG, Vocab, content and ideas, and that this is a chance to impress.
