1. Gravity Casting
Gravity casting is produced by pouring molten metal into permanent cast-iron moulds. This
process produces chill castings. The process has a higher casting rate than sand casting, but the
metal moulds are higher cost than sand patterns. Advantages include the possibility of low gas
porosity, and fine grain sizes can be obtained. Less finishing and polishing will be required than for
sand castings. Gravity casting tends to produce the highest quality castings, however the accuracy
achievable is limited. Minimum wall thickness possible is c. 3-5mm.

2. Sand Casting
Sand casting offers the simplest medium for production of non-ferrous castings, by pouring molten
metal into a sand mould. This process is chosen for the production of small numbers of castings,
for complex shape castings requiring intricate cores, or for large castings. Advantages include
low tooling costs, largest casting sizes achievable, very low gas porosity is possible, and general
versatility of the process is good. Limitations include low casting rate, 3-5mm minimum wall
thickness, poor linear tolerance (e.g. 4mm/m), rough surface finish (6.5-12.5mm), and a coarser
grain size than gravity die castings.

Consultancy and Feasibility Studies
With range of competencies and expertise of the staff at Hicasting, we are able to put together
interdisciplinary project teams to provide the client with the advice required. We advise our
clients on every aspect from the right design and dimensioning of the part for casting through the
evaluation and choice of suitable casting methods and materials through to the testing of pre-
series production processes. We collaborate with the customer to evaluate and analyze problems,
investigate the causes and then develop appropriate solutions and measures.
RD Qualification program
The application of new technologies and materials in creating new products and their transfer
to existing processes in series production can only be successful if the personnel are also
correspondingly qualified. The personnel qualification provides an important technology transfer
during which the latest scientific findings and methods become established in industrial practice
and younger staff become qualified.

Characteristics
Using mostly cast iron the material of formation in order to minimize the wear of the material due
to the cylinder reciprocation. The common material for crank cases are iron for minimizing the
wearing of the material from cylinder reciprocation. While maintaining the performance of the part,
combinationofironlinerandaluminumgravitycasting reduces the weight of the material, improves
the fuel efficiency and achieve cost reduction of the product. In addition, weight reduction increased
efficiency for braking distance for automobile.

1. Hybrid Casting
New solutions for different types of joint between two metals are in high demand for highly
integrated lightweight structures and new concepts for multi-material design. Joining technology

2. Complex Casting
Complex internal geometries that could not be produced by casting in the conventional manner
due to poor demoldability, complicated undercut s or integrated hollows from rasin gas. Hicasting's
complex casting create internal geometries at state-of-art level with precision.

Hicasting produce complex geometries with various angles which could not be produced by casting

Characteristics
All the casting products are casting in the framework of the mold, after being formed, the casting
should break out in the mold frame. For casting to break out of mold frame with tilt angle requires

Gravity Casting
1. By dense tissue is superior strength, greater
pressure.
2. The mold production costs are lower than in
die casting.
3. Gravity casting creates any shape of the inner
cores using Core.
4. Gravity casting uses the force of graivty for
cooling to minimize fine bubbles or bubble
with a significantly lower incidence level.
5. It is suitable for such a post-processing such
as heat treatment and welding.
6. Two production molds can create multiple
castings.
7. Gravity casting is not limited with the types of
aluminium alloy.
1. Low production rate
2. Due to the high labor costs, price is
moderately higher compared to die casting.
3. Limitations to thickness (minimum 3mm)		
				
4. Life time for mold is relatively less than die
casting (Maximum 30,000)				
		
5. Relatively longer finishing process than die

Die Casting
1. allows casting of complex geometries and
thinner and lighter products can be produced.
2. Mass production at inexpensive cost with high
production rates
3. The coating on the surface because the
surface is clean, can minimize finishing
operations when plated
4. The high productivity of the product
 The production cycle (cycle time) is about
30-40seconds.
 The mass production for equivalent shape
in short time period.
5. Machining capacity is very low due to near
net shape forming close to the actual shape.
6. Complex and thin products can be accurately
molded complex products.
1. Equipments and mold production costs are
high, unsuitable for low volume production.
2. Internal shape of the mold is limited as die-
casting employs mold metal which can not be
ejected.
3. Greater restrictions on the surface shape
of the product (Thickness, non-uniform
thickness)
4. The fine air bubbles/oxides are incorporated
in the press during the injection of the molten
metal.
5. Internal air bubbles are generated, not
suitable for post-processing such as heat
treatment or welding.

  • 6. 1. Gravity Casting Gravity casting is produced by pouring molten metal into permanent cast-iron moulds. This process produces chill castings. The process has a higher casting rate than sand casting, but the metal moulds are higher cost than sand patterns. Advantages include the possibility of low gas porosity, and fine grain sizes can be obtained. Less finishing and polishing will be required than for sand castings. Gravity casting tends to produce the highest quality castings, however the accuracy achievable is limited. This process is chosen for the production of small numbers of castings, for complex shape castings requiring intricate cores, or for large castings. Advantages include low tooling costs, largest casting sizes achievable, very low gas porosity is possible, and general versatility of the process is good.
