INTRODUCTION
• IKEA retail shops also function as
warehouses.
• There are also bigger warehouses and
separated near to the retail shop.
• The warehouse contains bulky items
which are difficult for customers to
load into their vehicle on their own.
• IKEA warehouses manage a sheer
volume of goods every day.
• The staff starts working at 6 A.M., and
they must finish all the tasks before 10
A.M.
• when the doors get opened, and
customers start arriving. If any task
remains unfinished by 10 A.M.,
• the task will be postponed until next
shift
• the movement of goods by driving
forklifts between the shelves can
endanger customers.
JOB PROCESS IN THE WAREHOUSE
Arrival of the
pallets
• Each group of a product is
located on a separate pallet
for ease of unloading,
offloading and moving.
• then unloaded by forklifts to
the entrance gate and set in a
queue for barcode checking
process.
• All the operations, including
sorting, moving and locating
the pallets must be
completed by 10 A.M.
• The delivery timing of the
trucks needs to be arranged
accordingly.
Loading with
Forklifts
• Ready to be transferred to
their final position in the
shelves.
• A forklift will be used to
transport the products to the
pre-defined location in the
shelves.
• The shelves are grouped into
three main sections
Checking of The
Barcode
• Queued up at the entrance
gate waiting to be registered
and processed by the
scanning of the barcode on
them
• The barcode itself has all the
information regarding the
section, the row and the
shelf they are going to be
located.
Transporting
within the
section
• there will be three different
paths between the sections.
• The inter-section
transportation scheme is to
transport products between
the sections quickly.
• For shorter paths, the
transportation is done
manually.
• For longer paths, usually
requires forklifts & drivers.
Moving
Machnery
Warehouse machinery has the
potential to be extremely
dangerous if your team aren’t
using it properly. Many machines
have moving parts that can
potentially cause serious injuries
if safety precautions aren’t
followed.
• Pinned between forklifts.
• Pinned between the loading
dock and the truck, trailer or
van.
• Pinned between vehicles.
• Hit by a truck or trailer.
• Hit by falling, unsecured items.
• Hit by a falling dock plate.
HAZARDS ASSOCIATED WITH JOB PROCESS
Falling Objects
Warehouse workers often must
handle heavy, bulky items and
over time, this can lead to varying
levels of physical strain.
Items can easily fall and injure
your team. Items might be
stacked high when your workers
are moving them from place to
place. They can easily slip off and
cause potential injuries.
Exposure to
Harmful
Substances
Toxic substances are a serious
workplace hazard. Even cleaning
products can potentially injure
your team if they aren’t wearing
the appropriate gear or handling
the substances properly.
Loading &
Unloading
Physical
Stress
Slips, Trips
and Falls
• Substances littering the floor,
such as packaging sawdust
and liquids.
• Slippery flooring.
• Hidden steps and ridges.
• Poorly lit areas.
• Boxes on the floor.
Control Measures of Each Hazard
PHYSICAL STRESS
-Treat all employees in a fair and respectful manner.
-Provide workplace health and wellness programs that target the true
source of the stress.
-Make sure staff has the training, skills and resources they need to be
successful in their positions.
-Design jobs to allow for a balanced workload. Allow employees to have
control over the tasks they do as much as possible.
MOVING MACHINES
-Conduct a visual check on a machine before starting operation.
-Ensure machine guards are in place before operating the machine.
-Stop the machine if it is operating abnormally.
-Report any unsafe condition, near miss or incident to your supervisor.
-Adhere to all safe work instructions and procedures.
-Wear the correct PPE for the job.
FALLING OBJECTS
OSHA Construction Standard 1926.501(c) and OSHA General Industry Standard 1910.29(c) both
state that when workers are exposed to falling object hazards, they must wear head
protection and at least one of the following safety measures must be implemented:
1.Put up toeboards, screens, or a guardrail system to prevent falling objects.
2.Build a canopy structure to prevent falling objects.
3.Barricade the area below where objects could fall.
EXPOSURE TO HARMFUL SUBSTANCES
The ways are
-using control equipment, eg total enclosure, partial enclosure,
LEV;
-controlling procedures, eg ways of working, supervision and
training to reduce exposure, maintenance, examination and testing
of control measures;
-worker behaviour, making sure employees follow the control
measures.
-Control measures are in place it is important to use them
properly.
This includes:
1.wearing any PPE necessary;
2.using control equipment;
3.following hygiene procedures;
LACK OF SAFETY TRAINING AND KNOWLEDGE
1.Train employees well.
2.Reward employees for safe behavior.
3.Use labels and signs.
4.Keep things clean.
SLIP ,TRIP AND FALLS
-If you see something you might slip or trip on, tell your supervisor right away.
-Clean up spills and anything slippery. Check with your supervisor about how to use cleaning
products. Don’t use cleaners that could make the floor slippery.
-Make sure that floor mats lay flat rather than wrinkled or bunched.
-Use handrails when you walk up and down steps.
-Clean off any slippery material on the rungs, steps, or feet of a ladder before you use it.
